"That's enough; I'm not into all that protocol," Cain said, motioning for them to stand.
"Understood," both replied with a knowing smile.
Although they hadn't been following Cain for long, they had already noticed that he wasn't one to act superior. Unlike many in Team Rocket who flaunted authority without much power, Cain focused on results.
There were those, even with low ranks like captains, who treated their subordinates arrogantly, as if they were already high-ranking officers. But Cain wasn't like that. As long as you completed the tasks he assigned, he allowed a certain level of freedom.
However, if you failed, the consequences could be terrifying.
For instance, if Miyamoto had failed to hold someone off while Cain battled Vexor, he would likely be in a very precarious position now.
Cain gave them a few instructions: "Take advantage of these remaining two days to capture some Pokémon with potential on this island. If you've captured any temporary Pokémon as tools, release or dispose of them."
"This island is quite mysterious, and there's a good chance of encountering high-quality Pokémon. Try to capture ones that suit your style. Also, keep an eye out for point cards if you see them, but don't go out of your way to look for them. There aren't many left on this island who could pose a threat to you."
Cain gave this order so they could plan for the future.
"If all goes well, I'll head straight to the Hoenn region after this trial. If you decide to stay in Kanto or Johto, you'll probably receive plenty of offers from others, but you can also come with me to Hoenn."
He continued, "I know you're aware of the rewards for first place, but with my current strength, I can't handle all those resources. I'll likely trade most of them for protection to buy myself time to develop in Hoenn. But what I lose now, I'll reclaim later."
Alec was the first to speak: "Cain, I'd like to follow you to Hoenn. You know I have connections there, and with my help, you'll be able to establish yourself quickly."
Alec explained about a small village in Hoenn called Leafy Town, situated between Verdanturf Town and Mauville City. Although it was a small place, his uncle, a former Officer, had purchased a large plot of land there before passing away, which now belonged to Alec.
Cain listened and replied, "We'll see. I haven't heard of Leafy Town, but I'll look into it when I get to Hoenn."
Miyamoto also decided to follow Cain to Hoenn. Since his protector in Kanto had likely been eliminated, he didn't see a safer option.
Cain concluded, "I'm not forcing you to follow me, but if you do, everything will be under my command."
Both responded firmly, "Yes!"
After these discussions, Cain allowed them to rest and informed them that the next day, they would operate separately, with the goal of regrouping at the base on the final day. He might need their points to secure first place.
...
The sixth day of the trial.
At dawn, Miyamoto and Alec bid farewell to Cain, each heading in different directions to achieve their objectives. They felt the pressure to grow stronger before traveling to Hoenn, a new region full of challenges.
Meanwhile, Cain continued his usual routine, preparing breakfast for his Pokémon and training them. After a night's rest, their wounds had almost fully healed, allowing them to train without issue.
However, while supervising their training, an unexpected visitor appeared at his camp. A young man wearing a punk leather jacket and a playful smile was slowly approaching.
Cain noticed him immediately, spotting the "R" emblem on his forehead.
"Is he one of the Four?" Cain thought.
Except for Glacius and Vexor, the other participants wore Team Rocket uniforms. Only these four individuals wore different outfits, though they all had the Team Rocket emblem somewhere on their body.
"Are you Cain?" the young man asked, stopping about ten meters away.
Cain's Pokémon also noticed the stranger, grouping around their trainer on high alert.
"Regi?" Cain asked with some doubt.
The young man's smile widened at the mention of his name.
"Looks like you've heard of me. That'll make things easier."
"What do you want?" Cain continued.
"Now, don't be so rude. When a guest arrives, shouldn't you offer them something to drink? Although... I suppose that's not really feasible here. But at least some water and a chat, don't you think?"
Cain frowned, observing the scruffy young man. He couldn't figure out his intentions but allowed him to approach cautiously. Seeing no visible Pokémon with him, Cain assumed he wasn't here for a fight.
Cain invited him to sit and offered him water. He remained prepared for any unexpected moves, confident that his Pokémon could neutralize him if necessary.
