CHAPTER 3
For eight months of Mr Benson's stay in the city, He kept his promise. Everyone was already looking forward to his visit in December for Christmas. But then it happened, that from the beginning of September, he suddenly stopped calling or sending any money!
At first, Mrs Benson was worried that maybe something had happened to him. So she tried his number again, after several attempts he picked up. She asked him the reason for his sudden behavior, and his reply was " I lost my job".
Before she could say any other thing he hung up! She was shocked at this sudden change in behavior...To satisfy her curiosity, she called Mr Benson's co-worker whether her husband was really being honest about everything. She got the shock of her life when she was informed by the co-worker that her husband was still working and receiving his salary in full.
It was indeed a shocker to Dorothy and Ben! They couldn't believe their ears, they never expected such from their own father.
"How could he do this to his own family?" Mrs Benson asked in tears..
" Mum,, indeed the heart of man is desperately wicked " Dorothy cut in trying to console her mum.. Ben just stood there shocked and speechless,, Just looking at his face, one could tell a lot was going through his mind.
Mrs Benson had so many questions in her mind; " what has he been using all that money for? Is he spending it on another woman and neglecting his beautiful children and I ? "
Just like that, they didn't hear from Mr Benson again. Christmas for them was nothing to write home about ! While other families were buying new clothes for Christmas and making preparations, they would just stay indoors praying to God for a miracle..
" Oh Lord! Please hear our cry", Dorothy prayed to God on her knees. "I know you won't leave us even for a second, I know you will provide and grant all our heart desires. I want you to prove to our Dad that even though he has abandoned and left us to suffer, we can still survive because our heavenly father exists." She was already crying...
They almost lost all hope of celebrating Christmas because they had no money.. God intervened and Mrs Benson's sister surprised her with enough money to celebrate Christmas.
"You see, God never fails His children".. Dorothy said to her mum happily...
