Chapter 4 - Year 3!

Crash

"Ow! Even I felt that one."

Percy groaned as he pulled himself out of the crater, shaking off bits of rubble. His body ached from the impact, but he had worse things to worry about. "Now, where is my sword?"

He scanned the battlefield, spotting his sword gleaming amid the debris a few meters away, stuck at an awkward angle in a pile of shattered stone. Percy extended his hand, willing the blade to return. It didn't budge.

"Oh, come on! That's gotta be more than thirty meters," he grumbled, breaking into a sprint to retrieve it.

Swish—CRASH!

A massive chunk of debris flew past him, barely missing his head. Percy hit the ground in a roll, before glancing up to see what had nearly flattened him.

Kelli.

His off-brand vampire was fuming—literally. She was sprawled in the rubble, cursing up a storm as she dusted herself off.

"Fucking piece of shit! Poseidon's piss! That motherfucker!" Kelli kicked a broken slab of concrete. "He could've picked a fight with anyone—anyone in the world! But no, he goes after Typhon. That deranged piece of…" She clenched her fists, searching for the right insult. "Of… UGH!"

Percy swallowed as she finally looked up and locked eyes with him.

Kelli's nostrils flared. Her hair ignited, flames rising like a volcano on the verge of eruption. She stabbed a furious finger in his direction.

"YOU!"

She took a menacing step forward, her eyes blazing with fury. Her hand curled into a fist, drawing back like she was about to knock his teeth out.

Percy took an instinctive step back, hands raised in surrender. "Okay, before you do anything rash—like, I don't know, rip my head off—let's just take a deep breath."

Kelli did the exact opposite. Her flames surged higher, her eyes glowing like molten lava. "Do you have any idea what you've done?!" she shrieked.

Percy winced. "Uh, picked a fight with the baddest endgame boss in our mythology."

Kelli lunged. Percy barely had time to duck before her flaming fist went soaring past his head. It struck a chunk of debris behind him, reducing it to embers on impact.

"Whoa! Okay, I think that was a little excessive." Percy backpedaled, scanning for his sword. "Can we talk about this like rational—"

Kelli swung again, this time aiming straight for his face. Percy managed to block with his forearm, but the heat from her flames still singed his hoodie sleeve.

"Okay! No talking, got it!" He twisted away.

"Why?Why?Why? You could have picked any one-annyyy one but why him?"

Percy kept moving, dodging another wild swing as Kelli's flames flared brighter. "Look, in my defense, I wasn't exactly picking a fight with Typhon. He kinda just—y'know—showed up. And started wrecking everything."

Kelli let out an exasperated growl, her fangs flashing as she clenched her jaw. "Do you even understand what you've done?! We could have sneaked away but noooo, the prince of the seas has the brilliant idea of throwing his garbage at the one monster that almost ended the greek pantheon. Now he's targeting us, and do you know what that means?"

Percy ducked as she hurled a burning chunk of rubble at him. "That my weekend plans are officially ruined?"

Before Kelli could throw anything more at him Joe crash landed between them. Huffing and groaning he tried to get up.

"Are you okay, Joe?" Percy asked the struggling Harpy.

Joe just grumbled, "I would have if a stupid demigod had not thrown his leftovers at him."

He pointed at the massive hulking behemoth of a monster, towering over the city which looked like what one might picture hell as, courtesy of the said behemoth. Lava was spilling from his mouth onto the ground, the smog filled the atmosphere and with the lighting from the fires and the it's glowing eyes truly gave him the appearance of a horror kaiju.

And that fucking kaiju had just thrown them a few hundred metres just by the gust of wind produced by one of it's swing.

Percy let out a nervous laugh. "Okay, I might see the problem now."

Kelli threw her hands up, flames crackling. "You might?! You might?!"

Joe groaned, rubbing his wings. "Why do I keep helping you? I could be in literally any other part of the world right now."

Before Percy could answer, a low, earth-shaking growl rumbled through the air. The ground trembled beneath their feet as Typhon took another step, his molten breath spilling over the ruins. Every time he exhaled, the air turned thicker with smoke and heat.

Percy tightened his grip on Riptide. "Okay. New plan. Run?"

Kelli sneered. "Oh, now you want to run? You had a chance to run!"

Joe flapped his wings weakly, still recovering from the impact. "I hate to agree with the vampire, but yeah, this is a terrible time to start regretting things."

Typhon roared, the sheer force of it sending another gust of wind blasting through the streets, knocking over what little remained of the buildings around them.

Percy took a deep breath. "Alright, fine. If we can't run, we fight."

Kelli rolled her eyes. "Fantastic. Can't wait to see how that turns out."

Joe sighed. "I really, really hate demigods."

Typhon lifted one massive clawed foot and started to step forward, the very ground splitting beneath him. Percy swallowed hard.

"Oh yeah," he muttered. "This is gonna suck."

A dog and a cyclops came out of the shadows behind them. Percy walked and pulled out his sword from the debris.

Typhon let out another deafening roar, his molten breath setting the surrounding debris ablaze. The monster wasn't slowing down. They were running out of time.

Percy twirled his sword in his grip. "Bruno, you stay out of battle and pull out any one who is seriously injured."

The hellhound whined but complied.

"Alright. Let's go give an ancient nightmare a really bad day."

His eyes took on a green glow as they began running towards Typhon, the storm clouds started to gather as he took to the skies.

It started to rain but the fire didn't quench, instead it started to spread. He summoned the biggest lightning bolt he could summon and targeted it at Typhon while Shell jumped high in the sky with his club raised.

Typhon tanked the lightning bolt like it was a feather. The massive bolt struck his molten skin, sending sparks flying, but instead of staggering him, it only seemed to make him angrier. His fiery veins pulsed brighter, like the electricity had only fueled his rage.

Percy's stomach dropped. "Oh, come on! That was supposed to do something!"

Shell, mid-air, brought his club down with all his might on his shoulder but Typhon barely flinched. It opened its maw and unleashed a powerful orange beam towards Shell.

Shell immediately brought his hands up in a blocking motion, the watch on his wrist transformed into a shield which he gave the idea for (he stole the idea), taking the full brunt of Typhon's attack. The impact sent the cyclops crashing through a building, the building collapsed on top of him.

'Eh, he will be fine.'

Percy launched himself towards the ground dodging a beam headed towards him.

He deliberately crashed into the ground, focusing on his powers to produce an earthquake in Typhon's direction, hoping to throw the monster off balance. The ground split apart beneath Typhon's massive feet, sending shockwaves rippling through the battlefield. Chunks of stone and debris shot into the air like geysers, but Typhon barely seemed to notice.

Percy groaned. "Yeah, cool, that did nothing. Love that for me."

Kelli zipped past him in a blur of fire, launching herself at Typhon's leg like a flaming missile. She slashed at his molten skin with her claws, but all it did was make her look like an angry cat scratching a brick wall.

"Any more brilliant ideas, Seaweed Brain?!" she shouted, dodging a molten fist that crashed down next to her.

Joe, who had been circling above, swooped down and clawed at Typhon's head. "I got one! We run!"

"Not yet," he muttered.

Summoning every ounce of power he had left, Percy raised his hands. The storm above twisted and churned, lightning crackling wildly. Rain poured harder, but the fires refused to die.

Typhon as if accepting the challenge roared towards the sky, sections of its body started to light up, the air seemed to catch on fire and lightning cackled with every breath.

Percy's grip on his sword tightened. "Oh, that's not good."

Joe flapped his wings frantically, trying to gain altitude. "Yeah, nope! I'm out! I refuse to die as an extra crispy chicken!"

Kelli shielded her face from the rising heat. "Percy, whatever you're planning, do it now, because I am about five seconds away from spontaneously combusting!"

The ground beneath them cracked open, fiery tendrils of lava licking at the surface. Typhon's entire form pulsed with power, his glowing veins now looking less like molten cracks and more like fault lines ready to explode.

Percy gritted his teeth. His usual tricks weren't working. Water wasn't quenching the flames, lightning was just making Typhon angrier, and the earth itself seemed to be working against them.

Think, Percy. Think.

His eyes flicked toward the storm above. The clouds rumbled, not just with lightning but with something deeper—an untapped force waiting to be unleashed.

Maybe he'd been going about this the wrong way.

He didn't need to beat Typhon.

He just needed to run away.

Taking a deep breath, Percy closed his eyes and reached out—not just to the storm, but to the very ocean itself. He could feel the pull of the tides far beyond the battlefield, the power surging through the veins of the planet itself.

A plan formed in his mind. A reckless, stupid, very on-brand plan.

He opened his eyes. "Okay. New idea."

Kelli groaned. "If it involves dying, I'm vetoing it."

Percy smirked. "Depends. How do you feel about drowning a volcano?"

Percy planted his feet, inhaling sharply as he reached deep into his power. He wasn't just calling the rain this time—he was summoning the sea itself.

The storm above churned violently, lightning illuminating the thick clouds like an apocalyptic drumroll. The wind howled, and then, in the distance, the sound of something massive shifting filled the air. A deep, rolling crash, like the earth itself had just taken a breath.

Joe squawked. "Oh, gods, what did you do?"

Kelli's flames flickered, her eyes narrowing as she turned toward the horizon. Then they widened. "No. No way."

The tidal wave was colossal. A wall of ocean water, rising higher than the buildings, higher than Typhon himself. It surged forward like a watery apocalypse, crashing through the ruined streets, swallowing everything in its path.

Percy clenched his fists, forcing the wave to stay under his control. He could feel the pressure of it, the sheer weight of the sea pressing against his will. One wrong move, and it would either collapse too soon or spiral out of control.

Typhon, as stubborn as ever, let out a guttural roar, his molten breath igniting the air itself. His body glowed, burning hotter, as if daring the water to touch him. The fire and smoke curled around him, the sheer intensity of his heat turning the ground to slag beneath his feet.

Kelli gawked. "You do realize he's a volcano, right? That just makes steam."

"Yeah," Percy said through gritted teeth, beads of sweat forming on his brow. "A lot of steam."

Joe blinked. Then, realization dawned on his face. "Oh, you clever little—"

The wave finally hit.

The world exploded into chaos. Water and fire clashed in a battle of elements, sending plumes of boiling steam rocketing into the sky. The force of the impact sent shockwaves rippling through the battlefield. The streets cracked. The remaining buildings groaned under the pressure.

For a moment, nothing but thick, blinding mist filled the air. The battlefield turned into a suffocating sauna, the heat almost unbearable. Percy staggered back, his lungs burning as the scalding humidity wrapped around them.

He waved his hand, summoning a gust of wind to clear the fog.

Typhon stood in the middle of it all—still massive, still terrifying—but now something was off.

His glow had dimmed. His movements were slower, sluggish. The fire in his veins wasn't burning as hot, the intense heat of his body cooling just enough to make a difference.

Percy exhaled, feeling the toll of the massive exertion hit him all at once. "Hah… okay. Step one, douse the volcano—success."

Kelli wiped a bead of sweat from her brow. "You better have a step two."

Joe flapped his wings weakly, glancing at the steam still curling around them. "Please tell me it's not 'hit him harder.'"

Percy grinned tiredly. "Nope. Step two…" He pointed at the sky.

The storm clouds above had only grown thicker, charged with enough lightning to make Zeus jealous. The air practically hummed with electricity.

Kelli followed his gaze, then let out a sharp laugh. "Oh. Oh, I like this plan."

Joe groaned. "I hate this plan."

Percy lifted his sword, calling upon the last of his strength. "Too late! Step two—light him up."

With a final surge of will, he called down the full force of the storm.

The sky exploded.

A lightning bolt, massive and blinding, obliterated the battlefield. The air turned white-hot. The sound of it wasn't just a crack—it was a roar, a declaration.

And for the first time, Typhon screamed.

Percy, Joe, Kelli and Shell who had awakened stood in their place with bated breaths, looking at the smoldering ruins where Typhon stood. The ground hissed with steam, molten rock cooling into jagged black scars across the battlefield. The air was thick with the scent of ozone and scorched earth, the storm still rumbling above like an angry god catching its breath.

For a moment, no one spoke. No one moved.

Then, through the smoke and flickering embers, a beam filled with power and bigger than the previous ones launched at them.

Percy only had the time to cover his entourage and himself in a water bubble before the beam hit the ground like a nuclear explosion sending them airborne.

They lost their conscience for what felt like an eternity, tumbling through the air like ragdolls. The heat from the blast seared even through Percy's protective bubble, and the force of the impact rattled his bones.

When Percy came to, his body felt like it had been put through a blender. His head pounded, his limbs ached, and his vision was a swirling mess of colors and light. The distant sound of crackling fire and shifting rubble reached his ears, but everything else was muffled, like he was underwater.

With a groan, he forced his eyes open only to find a giant face hovering over him, well not exactly over him but hundreds of meters above him looking down at him.

The head opened his mouth and voice that came out was ancient, it took a second for him to understand what he had said

The giant had said, "Hello There."
