Chapter 110: Douglas Barrett

Charlotte recalled the life story of Douglas Barrett from One Piece.

Douglas Barrett, known as the "Devil's Heir," was a hero once referred to as the "Successor of the Devil."

During his childhood, he served in a military unit where young soldiers were referred to as "bullets." Barrett was assigned the number 9. His captain was named Douglas, which led to him being called "the 9th Bullet of the Douglas Unit," thus giving rise to the name Douglas Bullet.

Barrett had been a soldier from a young age, displaying immense power and being hailed as a "hero." However, betrayal by his kingdom forced him into exile.

Later, Barrett crossed paths with Gol D. Roger and became a member of Roger's crew. As a vital fighter during that era, Barrett's strength was said to rival even Rayleigh, the vice-captain. Yet, Barrett never grew complacent; instead, he trained even harder.

Barrett's strength was extraordinary, nearing the level of the Pirate King himself. His fellow crewmates on Roger's ship regarded him as a "monster." However, Roger's illness and subsequent death deeply affected him.

After Roger's execution, Barrett became paranoid, wreaking havoc across the New World by destroying islands and creating chaos. His rampage drew the attention of the Navy, and he was eventually defeated and captured by Vice Admiral Garp and Admiral Sengoku during a Navy Buster Call.

Imprisoned in Level 6 of Impel Down, Barrett later escaped during the riot caused by Blackbeard, earning the title of "the worst jailbreaker in history." Afterward, he joined Festa in attacking the "Pirate Expo."

Barrett's philosophy was that weak individuals had no place in the harsh seas. Having been betrayed multiple times, he trusted no one. His only belief was that strength could surpass everything and grant him everything.

Even in prison, Barrett maintained his rigorous training, honing his strength, speed, and stamina to perfection. He also possessed the Paramecia-type Fusion Fruit, an ability that allowed him to merge with and manipulate inorganic objects. This power could transform rubble into weapons and create colossal structures or armor, making him a near-limitless source of destruction.

Barrett had even awakened his Devil Fruit ability, greatly expanding his range and power.

Charlotte, reflecting on Barrett's tragic life, felt a surge of determination.

"He doesn't have to live that life," Charlotte thought. "If I can recruit him now, he'll never endure that pain or betrayal. And his strength... he'll become my greatest asset."

Charlotte's plan began to take shape. He decided to approach Barrett not as a captain but as a brother or family figure, inspired by how Elena had bonded with Panis.

As Charlotte sat at the bow of the ship, lost in his thoughts, he couldn't help but smile.

Watching his captain grin like a fool, Paul and Isaac exchanged looks.

"What do you think he's scheming?" Isaac asked.

"Something crazy, no doubt," Paul replied, shaking his head.

More than an hour later, Charlotte stood up as the ship neared its destination.

---

The docks of Jarzburg came into view. Known as the Kingdom of Endless War, the island was famous for its constant conflicts.

Unable to contain his excitement, Charlotte leaped from the ship onto the dock.

"Who's there?!" shouted one of the soldiers guarding the dock as they surrounded him with weapons.

Charlotte glanced at the group with mild annoyance, raising an eyebrow.

Before he could act, the captain of the soldiers recognized him.

"It's the Bloody Great Swordsman—Charlotte! Run!" the captain shouted in panic.

Without hesitation, the captain dropped his weapon and fled, followed by the rest of the soldiers.

Charlotte shook his head, amused by their reaction. His reputation had clearly preceded him.

As the ship docked, the crew disembarked, including Elena, who held Panis's hand as they stepped ashore.

"Leave some men to guard the ship," Charlotte ordered. "The rest of you gather supplies. Elena and I will explore the island. Signal me if there's any trouble."

"Yes, Boss!" the crew responded in unison.

Taking Elena's hand, Charlotte began walking toward the center of the island.

"Wait—what are you doing? Let go!" Elena protested.

Charlotte silenced her with a glance. Reluctantly, she allowed him to lead her. Panis followed close behind, trotting to keep up.

---

Meanwhile, the fleeing soldier reached a large military camp.

"General! General! It's the pirate Charlotte—the Bloody Great Swordsman with a 1 billion berry bounty! He's here!" the panicked soldier shouted.

The general, inspecting the camp, froze mid-step.

"Charlotte?" he repeated, his face growing tense. "You mean the pirate who escaped from the admiral at Sabaody Archipelago? How did he get here?"

The general immediately called for reinforcements, knowing they couldn't afford to take this threat lightly.

---

Charlotte strolled through the bustling streets of Jarzburg, his eyes scanning the chaos.

"Let's find Barrett," he murmured to himself, a small grin playing on his lips.
