Chapter 73: Killing (Part 4)
"Damn it!"
Major General Wells was bent over from the faint Conqueror's Haki radiating through the room, but he managed to remain standing, unlike the others, who struggled to stay upright.
"Your Excellency, Major General!"
The colonel beside him slid off his stool, collapsing onto his knees, sweat pouring from his forehead.
Meanwhile, Charlotte walked step by step toward the individuals who had spoken rudely earlier.
Seeing this, Wells grew increasingly anxious. He reached for his Den Den Mushi to call for backup, but as soon as he picked it up, the snail fainted, foaming at the mouth.
"Oh no! Even the Den Den Mushi has been affected by the Conqueror's Haki!" Wells muttered, his face darkening.
Unbeknownst to Wells, this was intentional on Charlotte's part. Charlotte, still consumed by rage, wanted to ensure no communication would interfere with his vengeance.
He had used his Conqueror's Haki to knock out any form of communication within a 100-meter radius. The moment Wells reached for the Den Den Mushi, Charlotte had detected it and directed his Haki to incapacitate the device.
Now, as Charlotte approached, the crowd in the auction hall stared at him in terror, unable to move under the weight of his oppressive aura.
Charlotte stopped before the Grand Duke, who had been the first to shout. Grabbing the man by the neck, Charlotte sneered.
"I don't dare to kill you, huh?"
The Grand Duke's face turned red as he struggled to respond.
Snap!
The sound of breaking bones echoed through the hall.
The Grand Duke's body went limp in Charlotte's grasp, his head lolling to the side like a broken doll.
The audience froze, unable to believe what they had just witnessed.
"He… he actually killed him?"
A nobleman dressed in opulent clothing stammered, staring at Charlotte in horror.
The silence broke as panic swept through the hall.
"Ah! Murder!"
"Help! Someone's killing people!"
"Navy! Where's the navy? There's a criminal here!"
"Security! Security! Where is everyone?"
The hall erupted into chaos, with screams and cries for help filling the air.
On the second floor, Mayor Hoyle knelt, trembling with fear. He hadn't expected this man to so boldly murder a noble in front of an entire crowd.
"This is going to shake the world," Hoyle thought, his face pale. He could already envision the fallout: the World Government's member nations pressuring them, the auction house being shut down, and his own position—and possibly his life—being forfeit.
The weight of the situation crushed Hoyle's spirit.
"Kill him! Someone kill him for me!" Hoyle screamed, pointing down at Charlotte.
Despite Hoyle's frantic orders, Charlotte ignored him entirely. Instead, he approached the next person who had mocked him earlier. Grabbing the man's head, Charlotte leaned in close.
"You were so arrogant just a moment ago, weren't you?"
Charlotte's voice was a chilling whisper in the man's ear.
The young noble began trembling uncontrollably.
Pffft!
A loud, unpleasant sound escaped the man as he soiled himself in fear.
Charlotte recoiled in disgust, taking a step back.
"Disgusting," he muttered.
The Red Earl, seated on the auction table, burst into laughter, his voice ringing through the hall.
"Hahahahaha! Hahahahahaha!"
Charlotte shot the Red Earl an annoyed glare before turning back to the young noble, who was now a pitiful mess.
Raising his finger, Charlotte pointed it at the man's head.
Bang!
A concentrated burst of energy shot from Charlotte's finger, striking the young noble's forehead. The man's head exploded in a grotesque spray of blood and brain matter.
The horrific sight sent fresh waves of panic through the audience.
"Ahhh!"
"Help!"
"Get me out of here!"
Noble lords, ladies, and auction staff alike were reduced to terrified wrecks.
But Charlotte's oppressive Conqueror's Haki ensured none of them could stand, leaving them trapped in their fear.
From the sidelines, the Red Earl observed the carnage with interest. He couldn't help but marvel at Charlotte's precise control over his Haki, a skill rarely seen even among the most powerful individuals.
Charlotte's patience finally snapped as the cries and shouts continued.
"Shut up!" he roared.
But the panicked crowd ignored him, their screams growing louder.
Charlotte's eyes narrowed in anger.
"Hahaha! You won't shut up? Fine, let's see who dares to keep shouting!"
Raising his finger, Charlotte began targeting the loudest voices.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
One by one, heads exploded like overripe melons. Each shot was precise, leaving no survivors among those who dared to raise their voices.
The scene was gruesome beyond imagination, with blood and brain matter splattered across the once-grand hall.
Wells, still kneeling under the weight of Charlotte's Haki, watched in horror, his blood boiling with hatred.
"I have to stop him," Wells thought, clenching his fists. But the overwhelming pressure left him powerless.
As the slaughter continued, the remaining attendees fell silent, terrified into submission.
Charlotte scanned the hall with bloodshot eyes, satisfied with the newfound quiet.
The suffocating weight of his Haki lifted slightly, though the air remained thick with tension.
Turning his attention to the private rooms, Charlotte spotted Mayor Hoyle in Room 1.
With a powerful leap, Charlotte landed in the private box, grabbing Hoyle by the collar and dragging him down to the main floor.
"Mercy! Please, mercy!" Hoyle begged, falling to his knees and clutching Charlotte's pant leg.
Charlotte stared down at him, his expression cold and unyielding.
Grabbing Hoyle by the hair, Charlotte forced him to look up.
"This auction house belongs to you, doesn't it?"
Charlotte asked, looking at Hoyle with sharp eyes.
