"you seen corey?" Rosie asked "-When?"
Arbel shrugged "A few weeks ago, something like that. He was at our house, screaming at Leo."
Ben, who Arbel had almost forgotten existed until this moment, leaned forward. "Screamed?" he asked
"-What was he screaming about?"
Arbel shook her head, getting out of bed and starting to pace the small, tidy room
"I have no idea. He called Leo a psychopath and then Leo kicked him out."
Rosie tilted her head to the side, her red ponytail turning to the side with her.
"Is that all?" she checked
Arbel nodded and Ben sighed and leaned back again
"Well he wasn't wrong"
Rosie's head was still tilted when she asked "When was that?"
Arbel tried to think more about this day, the day she came in and saw a future dead man coming out of her kitchen.
"Sunday I think? I got back from the new superhero movie I saw with you, do you remember when that was?"
Rosie pulled out her phone
"I'll check our chat"
As Rosie started scrolling through her phone Ben sighed and stood up from his chair.
"I'm going to get some water-" then he stopped and pointed at Arbel
"-And You have five minutes before I throw you out"
"You're a shit host" Arbel called after him as he walked out the door.
Ben simply held up a third finger without looking back.
"Asshole" Arbel muttered to herself.
Rosie was still focused on her phone so Arbel looked around. Examining Ben's clean room.
The level of order was almost unbearable, how can you live in a place that feels more like a museum then a home?
But then Arbel's eyes locked on Ben's phone on the table and all other thoughts were erased.
She had a bad idea.
"What are you doing?" Rosie looked up at her as Arbel stormed to the table and picked up Ben's phone.
The idiot didn't even have a password on the phone, he demanded a hack.
"Nothing" Arbel answered as she typed Leo's name into the chats.
Lots of missed calls from Ben to Leo, some from before he disappeared.
How suspicious
She went into messages and read the words as quickly as she could. The conversations in messages were more ordinary, even boring. Nothing critical.
The hours were strange, lots of messages at night, the frequency even stranger. They didn't talk as much as Arbel might have thought, but other than that, everything was normal.
Well nothing comes easy she supposes.
"Arbel-" Rosie hissed
"-I hear him coming"
Shit.
Arbel had to do one more thing. She typed in her phone, seeing that Ben already had her in his contacts as 'Leo's sister'
How annoying, he didn't even bother to put her name in.
She sent Ben's phone location to her in a message, making sure to send a location that updates in real time for as long as possible.
It had been 12 hours, so Arbel has a way to see where Ben, and Ben's phone will be in the next 12 hours.
It's not much, but it will do.
She didn't care what Rosie said, Ben knew something, and she was going to find out what.
She then deleted the message with the location from Ben's phone and turned off the screen, she had time to sit down next to Rosie just as Ben returned.
She ignored Rosie's angry look.
Ben entered, closing the door behind him.
"Anything new?" he asked.
For a moment Arbel worried that Rosie would say something, but her friend just sighed.
"According to what Arbel says, Corey had a fight with Leo on July 19th."
Ben frowned
"But Corey was killed on July 21st, that's only two days later."
Arbel understood what he meant
"So how in two days did Corey go from screaming at Leo to inviting him to sleep over?"
Arbel didn't say the next question, but she was sure everyone had that question in their heads as loud and clear as hers.
Is Leo somehow connected to Corey's death?
And worse, how?
