Chapter 29 - Haunter of the Ghost Tower!

The Babysitter

Brock stood a bit behind, looking at Ash with a sense of despair, as well as at the two girls moving closer to him. Brock's heart was breaking. He felt that Ash had grown up really fast! Going on another journey with Ash and watching them "show affection" along the way was definitely a wrong decision!

"Maybe I should give myself a chance to train and travel independently?" Brock thought. When you have companions, you often rely on them. If he were alone, he would solve many things himself and gain better training. Of course, Brock felt that his other main reason was to find his own kind and gentle beautiful girl!

"Ash, maybe we shouldn't go after all. That Haunter might not even be in the Pokémon Tower anymore..." May said, as most girls are often afraid of the dark.

Beside him, May unconsciously held tightly to Ash's arm.

"Don't worry, I'm here. The Pokémon Tower is simply a place for the people of Lavender Town to mourn their Pokémon, and there are indeed Ghost-type Pokémon living inside. Don't be afraid. Alright, Ponyta, come out," Ash said, comforting the two girls.

"Ponyta, can you help us light up the path ahead with your flames?"

"Pikachu!"

Ash gently rubbed Ponyta's head, and Pikachu greeted Ponyta as well. Ponyta nodded and affectionately nudged Ash, showing its fondness for him.

With Ponyta's flames lighting the way, some of Misty and May's fear of the dark subsided. Soon, the grand shadow of the Pokémon Tower appeared before the four of them.

For some reason, the closer they got, the more Misty and May felt a chilly wind surrounding them.

"Who-who-who!"

At this moment, several Hoothoot flew around the tower's top, hooting in the darkness. Misty could no longer hold back and gripped Ash's arm tightly. May, even more frightened, closed her eyes, practically clinging to Ash.

Feeling the two girls clinging tightly on each side, Ash found their fear amusing. Were they really that scared?

"How about you two wait outside the tower? Brock and I can go in alone."

"Pika, Pika Pikachu..."

Pikachu, too, seemed somewhat resigned.

"No! We're going in with you!" They both replied in unison.

So the two girls ignored Ash's opinion…

They stepped into the Pokémon Tower. Thankfully, with Ponyta there, the visibility wasn't too low.

"Haunter, are you here? I'm back!" Ash called out as he activated his Aura to search. However, since the Pokémon Tower was quite large, he couldn't immediately locate Haunter.

Both Misty and May clung tightly to Ash, their soft touch making him feel a bit strange. Still, seeing how scared they were, he thought he'd better find Haunter quickly and leave the tower.

Suddenly, a strange and eerie sound echoed from afar, chilling them to the bone!

Ash, however, was delighted, certain it was Haunter! Haunter probably wanted to scare them, but Ash had already guessed it.

"Gastly, Gengar, Haunter, come out! I know it's you! Do you remember me? I'm back!"

"Pika, Pikachu!"

Pikachu joined Ash in greeting them. Realizing they'd been noticed, the ghost Pokémon seemed disappointed, as if annoyed they hadn't scared Ash.

Ash recalled a particular event when Haunter had the power to pull the souls of him and Pikachu from their bodies!

Back then, during his first visit, Ash and Pikachu were knocked out, and Haunter literally extracted their souls from their bodies! It must be some special ability!

Ash looked at Haunter and noticed:

[Pokémon]: Haunter

[Category]: Gas Pokémon

[Type]: Ghost, Poison

[Ability]: Levitate

[Mutation Trait]: Soul Hands (possesses a limited ability to interact with souls), unable to evolve due to energy absorbed by Soul Hands

[Note]: To evolve, Haunter needs power from a very strong Pokémon of the same type

[Potential]: Blue (potential currently restricted, will increase significantly upon evolution)

[Level]: 48

[Moves]: Shadow Punch, Hypnosis, Dream Eater, Lick, Mean Look, Confuse Ray, Sucker Punch, Payback, Shadow Ball, Dark Pulse...

What a strong Haunter! When Ash first challenged Sabrina, Haunter only knew how to make people laugh, but now it has a mutation trait, and the blue potential isn't even its limit! Blue is already the highest potential for ordinary Pokémon, while purple is usually reserved for legendary ones!
