Chapter 15 - Reincarnation Spell(2)

"Don't be surprised, there is more to this spell."

An eerie silence settled over the grassland as Zverius said these words.

After a few moments of silence Zverius snapped his fingers and their surroundings rapidly changed. Instead of the vast expanse of the blue sky and serene grasslands, David and others found themselves in a room now, the room seemed pretty aged and desolate. The brick walls of the room had moist pores in it, rays of sunlight were paving their paths in the room due to the cracks and breaches in the wooden ceiling of the room and the air was also a bit damp. David didn't like humid climate as he didn't relish the feeling of being covered in sweat, thankfully there were some paper fans in a wooden wardrobe present in their room.

Cerebius brought six paper fans, each having a different artistic pattern drawn on it, David was randomly handed a paper fan, on his fan there was a tranquil sea and there was a giant human hand made out of blood emerging out from the sea...David narrowed his eyes as he noted that from the sea a towering hand of atleast eighty metres was emerging out.

However, the strangest part about the hand was that it wasn't exactly composed of blood but a strange crimson water.

'No, this feels like the hand is made out of water but at the same time it has a large vivid network of crimson strings embedded in it.'

On the other hand, Harold's fan had a design of a sandstrom which simultaneously resembled a bunch of hair. Harold didn't pay it much attention as he wasn't an observant person and thanked Cerebius for providing him a fan in such a humid room.

Henry glanced at his fan with an unreadable expression, on his paper fan there was a bushy green tree, it's trunk wide and strong. Below the tree, under it's shed there was a young man sitting on the ground with his legs crossed, his back leaned against the trunk of the tree. Henry couldn't see the face of the young man as he was covering his face with his palm, the young man was desperately trying to protect his face from the blowing wind.

Suddenly, Henry noticed that there was a beautiful tachi in the other hand of the young man. He couldn't discern much about the tachi except that it's blade was in it's scabbard.

'I feel respite after seeing this drawing, I wonder why.'

A small smile appeared on Henry's face as he appreciated the artwork drawn on the paper fan.

Zverius offered everyone to sit on the chairs of the dining table set. The chairs and tables were made of oakwood with beautiful intricate patterns of various weapons engraved on them. David looked at the wooden ceiling then at the brick walls, and finally towards the wooden wardrobe which had similar intricate patterns as the chairs and the table.

David asked Zverius as he continued to peer at the wooden wardrobe.

"Where are we?"

Zverius shrugged nonchalantly and answered:

"This is an abandoned barracks which was in use seven thousand years ago. I'll tell you about this later as we have more important topics to discuss."

David turned towards Zverius and grimaced.

"Right, so you should continue your reincarnation spell explanation."

Zverius nodded and continued in a somber tone.

"Every spell has properties and effects. Effects as the name suggests are those things which affect reality; be it time, space, matter or anything else. But properties are different, they are the set of rules which apply to the caster, subjects of the spell and the spell itself. You may also call it the basic building blocks of the spell functioning.

Spells can also be recasted, well most of them can. There are some exceptions but those are rare kind. Study of spellcraft is nothing new, many Zardens and humans have done it before Zarius and succeeded but they weren't able to create their own divine or cursed spell. All they were able to create were elemental, healing or communication and sensory spells. These spells have simple runic formulas so studying them and deriving your own spell is possible.

Zarius created a class four cursed spell with properties of class three spell. Most astonishing thing was that the effects of the spell were higher than class five. I've modified some properties and effects. I've even added some effects and more subjects to the spell but still situation isn't in our favour, only thing which is changed is that we can make a comeback if things go according to my plan.

So first, let's talk about the subjects. Subjects are classified into two categories. Zardens are referred as "dwellers". A dweller is the subject whose soul and crimson core reside in a human's body which the spell randomly chose with some required characteristics. The required characteristics are somewhat synonymous behaviour. Simply put benevolent Zardens are dwelling in those humans who are not evil in nature. And those Zardens who aren't benevolent in nature are residing in those humans who are evil in nature.

Second category of subjects are hosts who'll be humans of your age. Every human from fifteen to seventeen can be a host for a Zarden dweller. All the hosts will belong to a particular area which means in this case..."

David, Henry and Harold's face paled as the realisation hit them.

"...most probably any two hundred and fifty students are the hosts of Zarden dwellers."

"The fuck? Do you mean among the three hundred and seventy five students of our high school there are two hundred and fifty students who are the hosts of Zarden dwellers?"

David asked as a deep scowl appeared on his face. Cerebius and Klubius glanced at David with solemn expressions because even they didn't know how this reincarnation spell functioned.

Zverius sighed and continued in a calm and calculated voice.

"Yes, you're right. Among the two hundred and fifty students; only fifty students who have my comrades as their dwellers are our allies and the rest are enemies."

Henry's eye twitched as a frustrated frown replaced his calm and indifferent facade. He shifted uncomfortably and said:

"So, to summarise this matter: Two third students of Whitewing high school have Zardens in them. And even among all of those, eighty percent of the Zardens are murderous vile beings with machiavellian ambitions in their minds."

Zverius nodded with a mirthless expression.

"That's right."

Suddenly Harold raised his hand to which Zverius looked at him and raised an eyebrow, prompting him to continue. Harold hesitantly asked:

"Why all of the hosts are high schoolers?"

Zverius stared at him with a thoughtful expression and then sighed.

"I'll come to your question later, Harold. Before I do that...let me explain you all an extremely important effect called "Dweller Awakening"...."

To be continued...
