Chapter 18 - Rapid Fire Yukimori

Sabueso left Tohgi frozen where they stood and made his way to the exit.

Sabueso: Sachin, Winfell, we are leaving…

Tohgi remained frozen in shock for a while longer, when he was touched by Sabueso, he felt what seemed like a dagger going straight through his heart. Sabueso's killer intent was more refined than anything he had felt before. What he had known from his experience with wild animals and southern bandits was a sensation that invoked the fear of death, but what he felt in that moment wasn't fear, it was an assurance that he would die.

Aspen: Tohgi... Tohgi! get a grip

Tohgi: huh? Oh sorry (what the hell was that?)

Yuki: do you have history with captain Sabueso? I can understand the Arnault kid, but the moment you both heard his voice even though it was for a split second I could feel your animosity.

Tohgi: ("you were deemed to have no potential; we believe there would be some southerners born with enough reiki to prove they can be worthy") There's something about him just irritates me

Yuki: you shouldn't talk about a captain like that in public

Tohgi: my apologies

Yuki: We couldn't care less, Squad five and one are not in good terms anyway, but for your own safety be careful how you speak. More importantly, do you actually have a death wish?

Aspen got excited when he heard Yuki ask Tohgi that question

Aspen: what happened?!

Yuki: He basically challenged the worth of every vice-captain and third mate in the country, give or take a few

Aspen was overjoyed at the news, laughing hysterically.

Aspen: You always surpass my expectations, Tohgi

Yuki: this isn't really funny, he could be subject to an "accidental" death, quell your desire for entertainment.

Aspen: Well if he dies, then it means he bit more than he could chew and that's no one's fault, don't you agree?

Tohgi: one hundred percent.

Yuki: Hey, it's about time you start acting normal, you can't agree to the concept of your death one hundred percent.

Aspen: I have a feeling it would be quite difficult to achieve that.

Tohgi: I didn't notice anyone that wanted to kill me that could kill me, at least not "accidentally" and I highly doubt any of them would take the risk.

Yuki: your confidence is actually unbelievable (ego the size of a mountain huh?)

Tohgi: Besides you have my back don't you? Rapid fire Yukimori

Tohgi emphasized the epithet mockingly.

Yuki: It's not a name I'm proud of.

Aspen: You're still whining about that? It's been 4 years now.

Yuki: It's not an achievement I can accept proudly.

Aspen: you did have a huge role to play.

Tohgi: Can someone fill me in?

Yuki sighed having to live through the event he considered shameful to his name.

Aspen: Some believe it to be a myth, because there is only one public incident tied to them but there is a terrorist organisation called the Anarchs. They invaded a city in the east central region, or better yet, they dwelled there. There weren't any knights around the city because it was considered too close to the south at the time. It barely got attention and most people running illegal businesses used it as an operation base. The advancement and access of the north and central district with the lack of attention you'd expect in the southern district, this was a prime location to solidify as the base of operation for them, that was, until Yukimori got involved.

Yukimori: I just happened to stumble upon intel that this was happening and it was being completely ignored.

Tohgi: This sounds interesting…

Aspen: They had flooded the city taking over local businesses and taking down anyone that would oppose them, civilians barricaded themselves, while those that could fight did. They would have successfully created a base there due to the negligence of the knights and we would have known nothing about until they decided to act.

Tohgi: What was their goal?

Aspen: We still don't know who is or was behind it and why, just the information we got on the day and our speculations.

Tohgi: I see.

Aspen: Yukimori bolted there as fast as he could, when he got there, he found that the city was actually being overrun and informed me about this. Although they were just foot soldiers there were a lot of them, so he came up with a brilliant idea. While riding around the city he opened portals in multiple locations and defeated the battle-mages he could, I don't know how long it took him, but before I got there, there were portals all over the city. He stood in one spot and released a barrage of magic bullets through his gun. It was brilliant, every bullet that did not land a hit went into a portal and came out another one until it did.

Tohgi: Oh wow that was brilliant… wait, I am confused, I fail to see the problem here, you were amazing.

Yuki: The problem is I could not execute the plan completely, before long, I would have run out of reiki.

Tohgi: I see, well it was 4 years ago, your reiki pool was probably significantly less, and you opened up a huge amount of portals as well, even now that would be a tall task by my estimate. So I'm guessing the part that no one knows is that cap cleared up the rest of them? How is that even possible the people should have seen him.

Yuki: Not technically, cap noticed I would run out of reiki before long and stopped me from shooting so I could hold the portals. He used my gun, the rapid fire model and took care of the rest.

Tohgi: Oh….. that's why he wasn't seen, all they saw was you riding around opening portals and magic bullets raining everywhere.

Yuki: Exactly, I had just become a knight, with almost no experience the difference between the captain's bullets and mine were very clear to see

Tohgi: That's why he called it a rumour, to be fair it is hard to believe a fledgling knight could clear a whole city of battle mages.

Yuki: He's not wrong, but I can no longer correct the mistake.

Aspen: by the time it was done, the battle mages were either dead, injured or they had fled the city. People were ecstatic at the prospects of the teenage knight that saved the city from a band of terrorists

Tohgi: I still fail to see the problem.

Yuki: I got credit for something I did not do.

Tohgi: You were the first person to know about this, you were the first on the scenes, you came up with a brilliant plan, you executed the plan, but you don't think you deserve credit because you couldn't see it through?

Yuki: It is claimed that I single handedly cleared a city of terrorists, which is inaccurate, cap conveniently left out the part where he fired the bullets when reporting and claimed I had already acted by the time he got there.

Tohgi: That's technically not a lie.

Yuki: I was made a vice captain after that and became the first vice-captain in the country with an epithet, rapid fire Yukimori.

Aspen: The papers were already calling you that before your appointment. It would have been no fun to ruin your moment

Tohgi: (As a teenager as well, that's some real talent) If you're uncomfortable with how you got the name, then you can prove to yourself that you deserve it. Captain thinks you do and so does everyone else.

Yuki: ("Instead of complaining about how you got the name, why not prove to yourself that you deserve the name, either way stop disturbing me")

Aspen: Tohgi! That's the right attitude, listen to Tohgi and don't bring this up again, that's an order.

Tohgi: To be honest you should aim to be a captain; you would probably be a better leader for our squad.

Yuki: I can't even argue with that, the current one never takes anything seriously.

Tohgi: He's never available and always travelling.

Yuki: Uses every situation for his entertainment.

Tohgi: Ignores all his responsibilities.

Yuki: Bullies his subordinates with unreasonable orders.

Aspen: How did this turn into a coup?

Tohgi: (squad five and Winfell almost made me forget how disgusting these "high-born" really are. Today was a good reminder of why I am here) That aside, shouldn't we be heading home?

Aspen: Oh I was waiting for everyone to leave, we're not heading out immediately, there's someone that wants to meet you, follow me, you can come as well Yuki

Tohgi and Yuki were befuddled, they had not been informed about a meeting with anyone else in their briefing for the captain's meeting. They headed towards a conference room, being led by Aspen.

Tohgi: Oh by the way, you said Squad one and five are not on friendly terms, why is that?

Yuki: Oh that it's not so much the squads… it's a long story, another time this seems important.

Xanarc: Hello Tohgi, I have been wanting to meet you.

Yuki: The Xanarc?!?!?!

Yuki instinctively pulled Tohgi's head down to bow with him. The Xanarc amused by the reaction laughed off what Yuki perceived as disrespect.

Oisin: That's not necessary this is a private meeting raise your heads.

END!
