_CHAPTER 2: Awakening Potential_
Prince Ryder guided his horse through the winding streets, expertly navigating the bustling city. I held onto his waist, still reeling from the events that had transpired. My family, my home β everything was gone.
"Where are we headed?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.
"A place where you can learn to defend yourself," Prince Ryder replied, his eyes scanning the surroundings. "The Silvermist Magic Association."
I nodded, unfamiliar with the organization. As we approached the association's headquarters, a majestic structure of gleaming silver stone and stained glass came into view.
Upon dismounting, Prince Ryder led me inside, where we were greeted by a warm, elegant foyer. The air was alive with the hum of magic.
"Welcome, Your Highness," a refined woman approached us, her eyes fixed on Prince Ryder. "I'm Director Elwes. We've been expecting you."
"Director Elwes," Prince Ryder bowed slightly. "Thank you for accommodating Ariana. She requires training to protect herself."
Director Elwes's gaze shifted to me, her expression sympathetic. "Of course. We'll provide her with the best instructors. But first, we need to assess her magical abilities."
I followed Director Elwes to a nearby chamber, where a sleek, crystal glass ball sat atop a pedestal.
"This is the Magic Quantity Test," she explained. "Place your hand on the ball, and it will measure your magical potential."
I hesitated, unsure what to expect. Prince Ryder's reassuring nod gave me the courage to proceed.
As I pressed my hand against the glass ball, a surge of energy coursed through me. The ball began to glow, pulsing with an intense, blue light.
"By the ancient arts..." Director Elwes whispered, eyes wide. "Ariana, your magical quantity is...off the charts."
The room erupted into murmurs, with several mages gathered around, staring at me in awe.
"What does it mean?" I asked, bewildered.
"It means," Director Elwes beamed, "you possess the highest magical potential we've ever recorded. You're a natural-born mage."
I stumbled backward, overwhelmed. Prince Ryder steadied me, his expression proud.
Just then, the doors burst open, and a commanding figure strode in. The room fell silent.
He was tall, with chiseled features and piercing emerald eyes. His jet-black hair was slicked back, revealing a sharp jawline. An aura of authority surrounded him, though his attire was simple β a black, high-collared coat with no insignia.
The room's occupants bowed, including Director Elwes and Prince Ryder. I followed suit, sensing the weight of his presence.
"Lord..." Director Elwes began, her voice laced with reverence.
The mysterious man's gaze swept the room, settling on me. His eyes narrowed.
"Ariana," he said, his deep voice resonating. "I've heard a great deal about you."
I swallowed, unsure how to respond.
"Who are you?" Prince Ryder asked, his tone cautious.
The man's smile was enigmatic. "Someone who's been watching you, Prince Ryder. And you, Ariana...are a surprise."
As he approached, the air seemed to thicken. I felt like a pawn in a much larger game.
"What brings you here?" Director Elwes inquired, her voice measured.
The man's gaze lingered on me before shifting to Director Elwes. "I've come to offer my assistance. Ariana's...talents warrant special attention."
With that, the mysterious figure turned to leave.
"Wait!" I called out, sensing a connection between us.
He paused, glancing over his shoulder. "We'll speak soon, Ariana. Until then, remember β your true strength lies within."
As he vanished into the shadows, the room exhaled collectively.
"Who was that?" I asked Prince Ryder, still reeling.
He shook his head. "I've never seen him before, but his authority is undeniable. We'll need to be cautious."
Director Elwes stepped forward. "Ariana, with your magical potential and...his interest, your training will be accelerated. You'll learn to harness your powers and defend yourself."
I steeled myself, determination igniting within.
"I'm ready.
To be continued...
