Mira stood at the edge of the island, gazing out over the ocean that had once been a place of mystery, now a place of inexplicable connection. The water seemed to call to her in a way she couldn't understand, yet deep inside, she knew it wasn't a dream. It was real. She was meant to be here.
The sound of the waves crashing against the shore seemed louder now, almost deafening, as a small boat appeared on the horizon. At first, it seemed like an ordinary fishing boat, but something about it caught Mira's attention. There was a figure on board, barely visible, as the boat drifted closer. With every passing second, the air grew heavy, and Mira's heart raced. It was almost as if the sea had sent this person specifically for her.
When the boat finally reached the shore, the man onboard collapsed. Mira rushed forward, her heart hammering in her chest. He was pale and gaunt, with wild, unkempt hair. His clothes were torn and soaked, as if he had been at sea for weeks. His eyes flickered open briefly before he groaned, barely able to sit up.
"I…I was waiting for you," he rasped, his voice hoarse.
Mira blinked in confusion. "Waiting for me? Who are you?"
He struggled to find his breath, the words slipping past his cracked lips like they were dragged from some far-off place. "I'm Taryn. I… I'm the one who's been calling you. The sea…" He trailed off, his eyes flickering with a strange recognition. "You're here, at last. It's time to return."
"Return? To what?" Mira asked, kneeling beside him.
Taryn's eyes flickered with a strange urgency, and he grabbed her wrist with surprising strength, his grip feverish. "You don't understand yet. But you will. The sea… it's choosing you. You must help me." His eyes seemed to search hers desperately.
Mira could barely comprehend his words. The sea? Choosing her? She had come to this island hoping for peace, for a normal life away from the noise of the world. But now, standing in front of this stranger, her mind was in turmoil.
"I don't know what you mean," she whispered, pulling her wrist away gently.
"The ocean's power is waking. I've been keeping it at bay for years, but now… it's too much. Only you can stop it," Taryn muttered, his head dropping back onto the boat's edge. "You're the one the sea has called. It's your destiny."
Mira stepped back, her thoughts swirling. This was madness. She had no connection to the ocean, no knowledge of its power. She was just a girl who had come to this remote island for solitude.
