I'm already late… no point in rushing.
After a quick shower, Yopy threw on his uniform, leaving his messy black hair as it was. No extra effort needed—it was just another day. Once ready, he walked calmly to class, refusing to run despite knowing full well he was late.
As he entered, all eyes turned toward him.
Teacher - Ah, Mr. Yopy, what an honor to see you. Late on the very first day, starting off strong!
Yopy shrugged, unfazed, and headed to his seat. The only spots left were between a girl paying close attention to the lesson and a boy glued to his phone. Probably top-ranked students, he thought.
Yopy - Excuse me for disturbing you.
He sat between them, pulled out his notebook, and made an honest attempt to focus on the lecture. However, within minutes, his eyelids grew heavy, and he eventually fell asleep, his head resting on his arm.
While Yopy was dozing off, the teacher continued explaining the day's agenda.
Teacher - Today, you will form teams of four. There are no restrictions—you can choose anyone, regardless of their class or rank. Each group will also need to come up with a name. These teams will be crucial, as most missions you undertake will be group-based. Of course, there will be individual missions for those who want to prove themselves, but for safety reasons, teamwork is encouraged.
The teacher paused, looking around the room.
Teacher - If you haven't formed a team by 5 PM today, one will be assigned to you automatically. You'll receive a message on your phone with the names of your teammates. Good luck!
With that, the students began chatting and moving around to form their groups. The girl next to Yopy glanced at him sleeping, sighed, and left to find teammates. The boy on his phone noticed her leaving, then turned to Yopy, still fast asleep. He tapped Yopy's shoulder to wake him up.
Boy - Hey, you're still sleeping? Did you even hear what the teacher said?
Yopy opened one eye, still half-asleep.
Yopy - Hmm… what's going on?
Boy - Look at the board. Everything's written there.
After pointing to the screen, the boy got up and left too. Now alone, Yopy finally bothered to read the instructions.
Yopy - Forming teams? With my ranking, that's not going to happen… Who would want someone ranked 862nd?
He sighed. The whole process seemed like too much effort. Instead of actively searching for teammates, he wandered around campus, casually exploring the area.
As he strolled, several students approached him, asking him to join their groups. But each time he mentioned his ranking, their attitudes shifted.
Student - 862nd? Oh… uh… actually, sorry, our group is full.
Yopy didn't take it personally. He understood that his low rank was a dealbreaker for most.
After hours of wandering and observing others form their teams, Yopy gave up. He figured that if he did nothing, a team would be assigned to him anyway. Honestly, he wasn't too concerned about it.
Back at home, he took a shower and grabbed his phone. A notification had just come in.
Yopy - Ah, here we go… let's see who's in my team.
He opened the message, curious to find out who his teammates would be.
