Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Something is not right

Alastair had long fallen asleep so I was alone with my thoughts. I didn't feel safe dispite being safe in my house. That human that died, no creature I knew could claw wounds that deep.A bear perhaps? No, it couldn't be, bears aren't known for stealthy kills. Whatever has killed it must be much, much worse.I found yet again I couldn't fall asleep so I slid out of bed, careful not to make a sound before walking downstairs.I walked outside onto the balcony attached to the bedroom, staring out into the distance.I saw something then. It was that same bird from earlier, the one I saw right before... no! I would not be thinking about that right now. It was too painful a memory. The bird flew overhead in wide graceful circles, getting closer to the balcony. I had an uneasy feeling in my chest. I could swear that was the same bird from my hike. Finally it looked like it was flying in circles right over the house, MY house. I didn't feel safe.I went back inside before shutting the balcony door, locking it even though it was on the second floor.Nothing was going on, nothing was going on, I told myself.I than heard a noise downstairs, as if the floorboards were freaking ever so quietly. My ears were pressed to my head in fear.Someone was in my house, oh my god, someone has just fucking broke into my house!!!I rushed to Alastair pulling off the blankets."Alastair!" I said with a loud whisper, I didn't want to alert whatever it was of our presence.I shook his broad shoulders. "Alastair wake up, someone broke into the house!"His eyes groggily opened."W-what?" He said his voice still rough from sleep."Someone is in the house, I heard the floorboards creak, please help!"Annoyance flashed through his features for a second."Jake, there's no one, I would have heard it, your probably just scared because of what happened earlier. You should get some rest." He said.Just then there was a clattering noise downstairs, as if someone had opened a drawer.Alastair's ears flinched. I was practically hyperventilating at this point."Stay here, don't leave. I am going to deal with this." Alastair told me.I watched as he quickly opened the closet, quickly pulling out a handgun we had for emergencies."Wait here." He said before quietly walking out of the room, locking the door behind me.(~3rd person POV~)Alistair walked downstairs, careful to not make a sound. It was probably nothing, something had fallen, that's all. He felt frightened all the less. The house was in total darkness though Alistair didn't turn on the lights for fear of, (if someone was really inside) would be alerted of his presence. He heard a rummaging sound in the kitchen. He quietly turned off the safety of the gun."Whoever is in there, get out right now!" He shouted with as much authority as he could muster.*Silence*He felt his hand shaking. His clenched his fists. He wouldn't show fear for what was most likely not even real.He slowly crept towards the kitchen. He froze. There was definitely a figure in there looking through the drawer's but Alastair couldn't quite make out it's form for the moon was right outside the window."Get the hell out of my home!" He shouted. It finally stopped looking through the drawers, looking up to face him.It was not human, nor anthropomorphic, it was something he had never seen.It had loose, grey, hairless skin and massive sunken black eyes. And sharp uneven teeth protruding from its maw.Alastair quickly pressed the trigger of the handgun, the shot reverterating through his body. The bullet had barely grazed the creatures shoulder. It hissed and lunged towards Alastair. He tried to reload but the gun was slapped out of his hand. The creature then, with its claws, slashed through Alastair's chest. He howled in pain. Before the creature could pin him down, he tackled the creature onto the floor. It quickly flung him across the room with impossible strength. The creature suddenly hissed and sprinted out of the front door, Alastair slumping to the ground, clutching his chest.
