The battlefield of Hogwarts had been littered by the bodies of both Death Eaters and their enemies alike. In the midst of the wreckage, hovered Harry Potter. He stood over the smoldering body of Lord Voldemort. Time froze completely for a few seconds before everyone broke out into cheers. Well other than the Death Eaters who just dropped their wands.
Harry almost sensed them making their excuses of how they had been underneath some kind of enchantment and had been forced to follow the Dark Lord.
"Long live Harry Potter! Long live the Wizarding World."
Good to be liked, at least this week, Harry supposed. Harry bent over Voldemort's body to make sure he was completely dead. It crumbled into ash.
Screams caused Harry to jolt up. The skies above him turned red. One of the more fanatical Death Eaters found his voice and cackled madly.
"Oh, you Mudbloods and blood traitors are in for it now. The Dark Lord has one final surprise and all who oppose the true pureblood order will be smited!"
Harry wondered what this red energy filling the sky was. He got his answer when the matter descended. It wiped through the Forbidden Forest. Everything it touched, it vanished. From Harry's first deduction, it wiped out everything it touched. It reached onto the grounds.
Unfortunately, no one could Disapparate from the Hogwarts grounds, as a certain witch constantly reminded them all. That would be handy right now. The Death Eater who had spoken out had been wiped out along with several of his fellows. Friends and enemies alike faded from existence from the endless antimatter touching their bodies.
"HARRY!"
And there went Harry's friends, all of them in an explosion of this strange energy. Their screams were the last thing Harry heard before silence. Everyone who remained sent spells at the curtain. This worked about as well as shooting spitballs at a giant. A few who had any sense ran away, not that it did any good. They were outrun by the energy curtain.
The Elder Wand clasped in Harry's hand began to glow. A vortex of light opened just as the Anti-Matter wave approached Harry.
Then, there was nothing. And it was horrible.
Everything had gone blank. Utterly and horrifically blank. The vision of his entire world being wiped out hit Harry's mind. He had only one question and that was, where was he?
Harry wiggled his fingers, only something was wrong. He was much younger. Much much younger, and Harry realized he was a young infant child. Any attempts to scream out resulted in him just crying.
"Shhh, it's going to be alright."
Harry came face to face with a smoking hot blonde woman who looked rather close to Harry in age. At least the age which Harry used to be before he woke up in this new body She picked up Harry into his arms and stroked the top of his head. This mysterious woman passed Harry off to an older, but still very attractive, blonde woman.
"He seems to know that the end is coming, Aunt Lara."
"Yes, I hoped that Jor-El would be wrong. But it's as I fear, Kara. We have one chance to save him. I know you'll watch out over your cousin."
Okay, so this was Lara, apparently his mother, and the blonde hottie was Kara, his cousin. Good to know. The memories of Harry Potter wedged deep into his mind, was a cracked mess. The further Harry tried to cling onto what was, the further they slipped away. Harry adjusted himself to these new familiar faces, but why were they talking about saving him? Harry wanted to ask questions, but that was impossible.
"Kara, you should go, while you have a chance. We'll get him on the ship."
"Right. I'll see you on the other side, Kal-El."
Kara gently kissed him on the forehead. Harry gave a happy giggle at this.
"His eyes."
"What dear?"
"His eyes are different. They were blue before. Now they're green."
"Maybe it's a trick of the light."
Kara left the room, and Harry was sad to see her leave. He tried to focus on what was going on. He was Kal-El in this room. A man with dark hair entered the room, slightly greying, entered the room.
"Jor-El?"
His father, at least from what Harry could figure out.
"It's time. The Council refused to listen, they're listening to Brainiac."
"It's lucky you didn't get tossed in the Phantom Zone. Others did when they went against the Council's edict."
They moved in towards a room. Harry caught a glimpse of some beautiful crystal towers outside of the room. He could not get a good look at him. They moved him towards what appeared to be a tiny escape pod.
Then, Harry felt a twinge of something else spread through his body. Death, and it was approaching at a rapid rate. Harry registered his disapproval of this very unpleasant feeling by the only way he could and that was to let out a loud cry.
"It's okay, Kal. It will be okay. We'll always be with you. And Kara will be there as well, to help you when it's time. And the people we're sending you to, are good people."
Lara soothed him. A crystal pressed over Harry's head which put him to sleep.
Harry's eyes flickered open with a jolt. Something rocked him awake. He was in some kind of escape pod which came from his planet. And now Harry shifted within it, trying to adjust to the light. The ship opened and Harry appeared to be uncovered by an attractive redheaded woman. Along with her husband, or so it seemed, a sandy haired man.
"Jonathan, it's a baby."
"How did he get here?"
"We have to get him out of here. All of the meteors around."
"Martha, I….yes we better. We'll get him to the truck and then you can help me carry his...ship."
It seemed like the man was testing every single word. Harry judged him to be a very practical man. The man, Jonathan, passed Harry off to his wife Martha. Harry leaned onto her shoulder. He had been a little older than where he left. And very lucky his brain had not been rattled when his ship had smashed into the ground.
Jonathan hoisted the ship off of the ground and put it into the back of the truck.
"Careful! Don't throw your back out!"
"I'm fine! I got it! Help me cover it with the tarp!"
Martha left Harry alone, just long enough to throw the tarp over the alien ship in the back of the truck. It had been covered, just enough.
"Oh my God!"
Harry managed to shift just enough so he could see out of the window. A man with straggly hair and a beard walked down the street, and carried a young boy of about nine years old. His ginger hair was rapidly falling out of his hair. A young girl with dark hair and green eyes, who carried a book underneath her arm, followed behind them.
For some reason, Harry distrusted this man. And Jonathan, he appeared to share that sentiment and frowned. Harry could not hear much of the conversation.
"My son has been injured in the field. He needs to get to a hospital. I would ask you to please, keep an eye on my daughter Lena. I'll meet you back in twenty minutes."
"Yes," Martha said. "We'll keep an eye on your daughter. Take care of your son."
"Stay here, Lena."
Lena frowned. She let Martha scoop her up and put her into the truck. Jonathan and Martha waited for the man to return.
"Lionel Luthor. I can't believe this Martha."
"Yes, but I know, but his children haven't done anything. And you can't believe everything you read in the papers."
"I don't believe everything I read in the papers. But I've heard plenty about Lionel from men who wouldn't bullshit…."
They kept their voices down. Harry heard every word of what they said though. The girl, Lena, appeared to be rapidly engrossed in her book. It was very large and very advanced from someone of her age group. Martha entered the truck to keep an eye on the two children while Jonathan paced around to await Lionel's return.
"So, what's your son's name?" Lena asked curiously.
Martha had been at a loss. They had just found him in the field. A strong though pushed up into her mind.
"Harry, his name is Harry. I'm Martha Kent, and that man is my husband Jonathan."
"Nice to meet you," Lena said with a nod. She looked at Harry for a moment. "You have pretty eyes."
Harry tried to say thank you, but the words did not come out.
"Lionel's back," Lena muttered.
Sure enough, the man, Lionel Luthor, came walking down the field. He peered into the truck.
"Is your son alright?" Martha asked.
"He'll be fine," Lionel said. "Lena, let's go."
"Yes, sir."
A few seconds passed and Lionel gave Harry a good long look.
"I'll stop by tonight. We have plenty to discuss. And you're going to need my help."
A few seconds passed, and Lionel left with Lena. Jonathan returned and got into the truck and looked at his wife.
"I don't like the sound of that."
Neither did Harry, come to think of it.
Seven years had passed since the meteor shower which changed the lives of many people in Smallville. It had been rechristened the meteor capital of the world and for good reason. The number of strange occurrences over the past seven years had been attributed to the meteors.
Harry Kent stood outside of the Kent Farmhouse. He had been happily adopted by Jonathan and Martha Kent. While Harry had vague memories of the life that was, he tried not to force them to surface. He did know there was something different about him. Harry only began to settle what.
The young man stepped outside. He dressed in a black t-shirt and jeans. Simple, but very practical. He moved outside of the mailbox which as per usual every Friday, contained a letter from his good friend Lena Luthor. Despite being fourteen to Harry's ten, they were good friends. Harry read the letter. Lena had been settling into her new boarding school, with a change of scenery needed after the unfortunate death of her stepmother Lillian. She passed away two years ago and Lena hd grown a bit distant to her brother and father.
"Not sure when I'll come back, but I'll stay in touch. Keep you posted if anything changes."
Harry smiled. Despite Jonathan's light disapproval of all things Luthor, Harry had been friends with Lena, and also Lex, to a lesser extent. Although Lex had pretty much changed upon the death of his mother. Who Harry remembered as being very aloof towards the end.
The green-eyed youth had been observant for his age. Almost too observant as it turned out.
Harry closed his eyes. Bits and pieces of a past life flickered in. A life which a childhood far grimmer than the happy one Harry lived at with the Kents. He just chalked these off to a very bad dream in a past life, although the life he lived as Potter did give him a few valuable lessons which he held onto.
Namely, the ability to fine tune certain senses. Out in the wind, Harry heard something. A cry of help.
"HELP ME!"
Harry heard his neighbor, Lana Lang out in the distance. And her friend, Emily Dinsmore. They were drowning by the sounds of their voices.
In a pop, Harry located them and appeared in a blink of an eye. Lana just barely pulled herself out and swam to safety. However, Emily was about ready to drown.
In an instant, Harry slowed down time and sped towards Emily. Harry yanked Emily out of the water just before she was pulled underneath.
The two fifth grade girls had been very shaken.
"Emily, you're okay! Oh, thank God."
"Yeah. Yeah! I guess I am."
"Who did it, do you see them?"
"I don't know. It must be an angel."
Lana just smiled. She was so happy to see her friend alive. And therefore, not to play the skeptic on this one. After all, it was Smallville. Anything was possible.
Harry pondered recent events. He could technically finish the chores at the Kent Farm in a blink of an eye, but he took his time to give himself time to think. With Harry's powers growing, his parents sat him down and had a talk with Harry about being careful. Especially when Harry saved Emily from drowning a few months ago. Jonathan was holding onto the unrealistic notion that Harry could have a normal life, but given what Harry was, there was no such thing as normal.
Martha was a bit more reasonable in her words. She encouraged Harry to be careful with who he shared his gifts with. Harry understood this more than anyone. Given back in Potter's life, there was always mass hysteria over magic, Harry could only imagine how people would react to someone of his abilities.
Harry had learned he could jump extremely high. He kept getting higher and further. After Harry wrapped up his chores, he would move to a secluded field. He could teleport to many places, but Harry was fatigued every time he did it. Although less so with practice.
Everything had been wrapped up. Harry vanished in a blink of an eye and stood outside of the field.
The wind blew in Harry's face. He took a deep breath and started to run the length of the field.
Harry picked up a lot of momentum and jumped. He turned in the air and blasted himself forward. Harry went as fast as possible. He wondered how far he could go.
With a loud thump, Harry landed on the ground in the midst of a street. Harry rode his bike down this trail before, and knew he was at least two counties over.
"Landing could be a bit more graceful."
Harry stumbled a step forward and fell onto the ground.
"Are you okay?"
A dark-haired girl around Harry's age rushed towards him. She extended a hand and Harry took it to help her up.
"Fine, just a little bit bruised."
"Yeah, I'd say."
Harry's pant leg was ripped up a little bit.
"You should get that checked out," she said. "My mom's a doctor, and she won't say anything. She works with people like you every day."
"People like me?"
"Yeah, people like you."
"Not sure if there's anything like me."
"Oh, there's a lot of people! You know, when the meteors rained down, a lot of people changed. Although, I'm not supposed to say that, but if you're gifted, that's okay! It's who you are, you know?"
Harry just shrugged. He was going to take her word for it.
"I'm Alex by the way. Alex Danvers."
"Harry. Harry Kent."
"I swear he just fell out of the sky out in front of me!"
Harry got a good look at Alex's mother, Eliza, and it floored him how much she looked like his birth mother, Lara. Granted, there were a couple of differences but the resemblance had been pretty damn uncanny to say the least.
"Doctor Danvers?"
Eliza turned her attention to Harry. She appeared to be studying him good and hard.
"Just sit down. I'm going to call your parents and take a good look at you."
Harry wondered how Eliza could call his parents when he did not give her his phone number. He directed his attention to Alex who just shrugged.
"So, how did you first discover it? What kind of powers do you have? How far can you really jump? Do you mean to crash in front of my house?"
"Alexandra!"
Eliza looked at her inquisitive daughter who gave her mother a sheepish smile.
"I called your parents. They'll be over. Martha was relieved that we found you."
"So, you know my parents?"
"We've met briefly."
Harry had more questions, but perhaps now is not the time. Eliza checked over Harry for a few seconds.
"Nothing is broken or bruised."
"So, you can heal too?" Alex asked before Eliza responded by giving her "the mom" stare. "Just asking Mom, okay?"
"Looks that way?"
Harry waited as Eliza walked off. He looked around the room and looked at Alex.
"So, your mother studies the gifted?"
"Oh, yes, all the time. She runs her own clinic. There's a lot of kids up there, and adults too that got their powers. Maybe I can show it you sometime?"
"Maybe," Harry offered. "I don't think I jumped. I think that I can fly."
Alex's eyebrows raised up and the young girl looked positively giddy. She was geeking out, as the saying went.
"Oh, really, that's so cool!"
"I have to be careful though. Can't tell too many people. So, keep it a secret. Alright?"
Alex made the lip zipping motion which caused Harry to crack a smile. The two entered an animated discussion about comic books until the Kents showed up at the door.
"Looks like your parents are having a talk with my Mom," Alex said. "It's fine. She won't tell anyone."
"Martha, I told you before, I'm all about discretion. Although, Harry's reaching the age where he's coming into his powers. They often flare up in strange ways when someone hits puberty."
"Oh, no, you're going to get the talk," Alex teased him.
Harry just lightly tapped her on the shoulder. Alex grabbed a sketchpad and wrote down a number.
"Okay, call me sometime, and maybe we can hang out?"
Alex gazed at Harry a few more seconds and Harry just smiled.
"I'll call you," Harry said. "And don't worry, I won't jump halfway across the county next time and land in front of you."
"Ah, that's a shame."
The two laughed. Harry could tell that Jonathan and Martha, both of them were getting a bit anxious. And to be fair, Harry did not know.
"I was lucky, I know."
A couple years passed since Harry dropped in front of Alex on that fateful day. They had become close friends and Alex had been quite the valuable sounding board for Harry. While Harry had the support of his parents, and also Alex's mother, he did enjoy someone his age who he could share his secret to.
"High school level courses when you're in Junior High?" Alex asked. "Careful, you'll have a doctorate before you're a Freshman."
"A couple, maybe?" Harry asked her. "I've still got a ways to go before I beat that girl in Central City?"
"You mean Harrison Wells's daughter?"
"Exactly."
Harry and Alex looked down at Smallville from a small cliffside which they climbed up. They had packed a picnic lunch to enjoy with each other. More than a few boys in Harry's class teased him about Alex being his girlfriend. Right now, they were close friends, but Harry had no problem with this, given Alex had grown up into being a very attractive young woman.
"I swear, Martha makes sure that you never go hungry," Alex said.
"That she does," Harry told her. "I've been doing a lot of thinking. And I've been piecing together a lot of things in my life. And I've come to….well, you're not going to believe it."
Alex leaned in and squeezed Harry's hand.
"Harry. Given what I've seen, and I've seen you do some extraordinary things, there's not a lot I'll disbelieve. So go ahead and tell me. I can take it."
"Well, I'm not from this world. But, that's not all. I wasn't even born in this universe. I mean, I've had a past life."
Harry explained it to Alex. She just put a hand underneath her chin and thought about it.
"So, you regenerated like the Doctor?"
"In a sense," Harry said with a shrug.
"So, I guess that would make me your companion," Alex said.
Harry smiled. He guessed that would have to be the case.
"It's strange. I'm guessing the Deathly Hallows canceled out whatever that Anti-Matter Wave that destroyed Potter's world did. It just rebooted me to a different life. Strange. I know it's absurd and unprecedented, but from what I've remembered from my life as Harry Potter, that's just how it went for him. For me."
Alex just had to smile at Harry's state of befuddlement. She ate the sandwich, which Martha prepared for the both of them.
"I can show you if you don't believe me."
"Harry, trust me. I believe you."
"Still, I've been working on some things."
Harry picked up what appeared to be an ordinary rock. Alex watched him carve some strange symbols into the rocks.
"Solar runes," Harry explained. "They allow me to store energy in my body even greater. I've been trying to figure out a way to disable the green rocks."
"Yeah," Alex said. "But, it's not as bad as it used to be."
Harry heard about it from Eliza. There was a time where you could not walk about ten steps out your door in Smallville without tripping over a meteor rock. There were a lot of people affected. Some received powers. Many were not so lucky and suffered a death.
"I haven't told this to my parents yet. Guess, it's easier telling my best friend than my parents."
"I'm sure you'll find a way," Alex gently told him. "It's...not easy."
Yes. Harry knew how practical Jonathan had been. This revelation might be more than enough to break the man. He had only begrudgingly come to terms with the fact his son had powers.
"I need to tell you something."
Now was the time, more than anything. Harry figured the best time to have this discussion with Jonathan and Martha was over morning coffee.
"You can tell us anything," Martha told him gently.
"Yes, you shouldn't be afraid," Jonathan said. "Whatever it is, we'll deal with it."
"Is it something about your powers?"
"Yes," Harry said. "Don't get me wrong. I appreciate everything you've done for me. Although, no offense meant, I feel a bit stifled by your attempts to keep me grounded."
Oh, yes, Jonathan understood. And even with his stubbornness, he could see where Harry was coming from.
"I understand. But there are unique circumstances that went down with your adoption. And how it went down. And we have to walk on eggshells a little bit."
"Yes, I figured, and I know you'll tell me when the time is right," Harry said. "Just like you'll tell me about this when the time is right. Nothing can hide what I truly am. But, I'm more than what you've realized. And I just realized it recently. This is my second chance in life."
"Second chance in life?" Martha asked. "Harry, what are you doing talking about?"
"In a past life, I was Harry Potter. He, I died at age seventeen along with the rest of his world. And I am a wizard."
Harry thought for a brief second he went deaf. It was very silent in the room, almost eerily so. He had to snap his fingers before his parents returned to the world.
"Are you okay?" Martha asked. "I'll call Doctor Danvers...you haven't encountered those any rocks, have you?"
"The green ones make him sick," Jonathan said. "But, there are other ones. What were they?"
Harry cleared his throat and waved his hand. The kitchen table levitated towards the ceiling. Martha and Jonathan nearly snapped back and looked shocked. Harry set the table down and grabbed them both by the hands.
"This won't be pleasant. But it's the only way you're going to believe me."
Harry dragged Jonathan and Martha in and showed the memories he so painstakingly recreated over the years. From the cradle to the grave, so to speak. Until the moment the red anti-matter struck. The moment where it did, it had been lost in time.
"My God!"
Jonathan made his way outside, and looked rather shaken. And about ready to throw up after he had been forced to watch some of the highlights of Harry Potter's childhood. Martha grabbed Harry and pulled him into an embrace. There had been no words.
"I'm sorry you had to see that."
A couple of days passed since the big reveal. Harry helped Martha complete her contribution to the annual bake sale. The two worked diligently getting everything wrapped up.
"I'm concerned about Jonathan."
"Yes," Harry agreed.
"And you."
So, they were going to address the elephant in the room. Martha put a hand on Harry's shoulder for a second.
"He's been working on the crops a lot more than normal."
"Yes, he's been avoiding thinking about it," Harry said. "I wish I didn't want you to see it. But, you think I'm insane. And after that life, I'm not."
"No, we don't," Martha argued. "You lived a tough life. And you lost everyone that you ever loved."
Harry just responded with a nod. Of course he did. Harry felt like a weight had been taken off of his shoulders when addressing those memories.
"I sealed them away for a while. But, by going through all of those memories, I was able to move on. And enjoy the second chance I've had. I didn't think you would get that burden."
Martha adopted a fairly stern look. She softened when she realized how bad it came off given the circumstances.
"It's our job as parents. And as a family. We shoulder our burdens."
"Thank you."
Harry grabbed Martha's hand. Martha came to the realization her son was growing up and growing up be quite handsome. She reprimanded herself for the thoughts and also justified it by mentally claiming it was just an observation. Nothing really serious, well too serious.
A knock on the door brought Martha out of her thoughts. Two lovely ladies stood on the other side. Harry answered the door.
"Lana! Emily! I'm guessing you two are here to help me bring over the goods for the bakesale."
Lana Lang flashed a smile towards Harry. And her friend, Emily Dinsmore, gave him a smile as well.
"Yes," Lana said. "Thanks for the help, Mrs. Kent."
"Oh, it was no trouble at all, Lana," Martha said. "I hope you girls do well with your fundraising."
Harry hoisted half of the tins in his hand. This gave Emily and Lana a chance to both drool over his biceps.
"You've been working out," Emily whistled. "Hasn't he Lana?"
"I've noticed," Lana said with a dreamy smile.
"We could use a little help setting up," Emily said. "If you don't mind."
"Not at all."
Harry, Lana, and Emily moved over to Lana's aunt's car to load the bake sale goods into the back. Nell had been out and had been moving boxes. Harry had to really smile at the irony of living up the street from the place called "The Potter House."
"Let me help you with those, Ms. Potter."
"Well, I could use a hand," Nell said. "Everyone's been doing their part. I'm so proud of Lana and her mother would be too, with how she's been putting this bakesale together."
"She's done an amazing job," Harry told her. "You should be proud."
Lana beamed at Harry's compliment. There were times where all of the guys at school fawned over her, but the one guy who she liked the most, well he was just casual with her. And that made Lana think he was right, although there was more than enough competition for Harry's attention.
"So, is Alexandra coming by today?" Emily asked.
And speak of the devil, and she should arrive. Lana had been very intimidated by Alex Danvers. Mostly because she was very overprotective of Harry at times and also because she had a closer relationship with Harry, despite Lana literally living up the street from him for as long as they both could remember.
Although, Alex did convince Lana that it was a dumb idea to wear around a piece of the meteor rock that killed her parents around her neck.
"Sorry, my trainer wouldn't let me off early," Alex said. "I'm free the rest of the afternoon though. Lang. Dinsmore."
"Danvers," Lana said.
Alex thought Lana could be a bit snooty at times, although Harry warned her to be nice. And Alex was, for Harry's sake. Emily was okay enough though.
"So, what fighting style are you learning this week?" Emily asked. "Because, you couldn't be any more scary than you already are. Right Lana?"
"Yes," Lana said. "Could you give me a hand, Harry?"
They hauled the last of the boxes into the trunk.
"A little Jujitsu," Alex said. "You never know when you need to defend yourself. Given all of the strange things that are going around in Smallville."
"Oh come on, there's nothing strange going around in Smallville," Emily said. "Just angels saving drowning little girls."
"Still on about that?" Alex asked.
Emily just stuck out her tongue. The truth was, she was happy to be alive after that near drowning. Although large bodies of water terrified her and for good reason.
"What are you ladies up to lately?" Harry asked.
"Well, I'm working on my painting," Emily said. "And Lana, she helped design some new outfits for the cheerleading squad."
"Yeah," Lana said. "Although, Coach Arnold insisted I make the skirts a little bit shorter. Something about helping for team morale."
"Mmmm," Alex mumureded disapprovingly.
Alex did not like the Smallville Junior High Football coach and Harry shared her sentiments. His father ran things at the high school level, and the entire family was an institute in Smallville. Regardless, the four finished packing up Nell's car and climbed in to head off to the bake sale.
"I wouldn't be here if my Dad didn't get this new job. But, hey, it might not be all bad. I mean, some of the sights are good. And here I thought it would be boring."
Harry had been in the midst of an animated conversation with the new arrival in town. A fourteen year old girl named Chloe Sullivan, who had been bold enough to come up to Harry on her first day at school, and ask her for the guided tour around the town.
"So, are all of the strange things true? I mean, there has to be more than the LuthorCorp Fertilizer plant."
Chloe stood out in the loft of Harry's barn and looked him in the eyes.
"We might as well get on with it. So, we can get it out of the way."
The girl had been very quirky, and Harry had a sense she was not the type of person who should be let anywhere near copious amounts of caffeine. However he did not have the slightest clue what she was talking about.
"So, what are you….."
Chloe got on her toes and planted a kiss on Harry's lips. She lingered for a few seconds and got swept up in his eyes.
"Your eyes are pretty. Did anyone ever tell you that?"
"Your shadow's still here?"
Harry noticed Alex had just entered the barn. She had been sizing up Chloe for a good long moment.
"Alex, this is Chloe Sullivan, Chloe Sullivan, this is Alex Danvers."
Chloe looked excited to meet Alex and Alex looked very weary.
"Oh, Danvers? As it Eliza Danvers? The doctor who helps out the meteor freaks?"
Harry just cringed at Chloe's choice of terminology. Alex gave the shorter blonde girl a cross look.
"We don't call them that."
"Oh, right, that's not right," Chloe responded. "It's just your mother's work is so groundbreaking. A lot of people are afraid of them."
"Most of them are kids, teenagers like us," Harry said. "They just have unique abilities."
"Oh, yeah, but it's a big thing," Chloe said. "It's just, your Mom is so awesome. She's done so good. I really wish...well I really wish that more people would be like her."
"Yes, she's done great work," Alex tensely said. "But, I'd like to forge my own path. And did you really kiss a guy you just met?"
"Yes, but just to get it over with."
Alex wondered if this was a logical reason to kiss someone.
"It wasn't a bad kiss. Okay, I've never kissed a guy. My cousin once, but I think she accidentally had some wine. So does that really count, would it?"
"If you say so," Harry said.
"I wouldn't know what you're talking about."
Chloe looked absolutely gobsmacked and almost shocked at this revelation coming from Alex.
"You mean you've never kissed each other? At all? How long have you been friends?"
"Long enough," Harry said. "And Alex never asked."
Oh, Alex knew when Harry was teasing her and decided to needle back with one of her own.
"Well, tough guy, if you were so bad ass, then you wouldn't need to ask."
"Well, Ms. Danvers, if you were half as bad ass as you thought you were, then you would have just kissed me already, and not waited for me to do it first."
Chloe's eyes watched back and forth like a tennis match between the two. Alex leaned in and accidentally bonked her forehead against Harry's nose. That caused Chloe to break out into laughter.
"Smooth."
Before, Alex could say anything, Harry cupped her chin and pulled her into a slow tender kiss on the lips. Alex's eyes bugged out. She returned the kiss and enjoyed it.
A bit smug, Alex locked eyes to Chloe, as if to tell her "see, that's how it's done?" Chloe put her hands on her hips and waited for the kiss to break.
"So, can I get a redo?"
"I've been doing some thinking. And you need to see this."
Jonathan led Harry down into the cellar to show him the ship. Harry gazed onto it and noticed something very peculiar about the ship.
"There's a piece missing."
Harry had one question and he had to ask it as soon as possible.
"What's the deal with Lionel Luthor? Because, every time I even hear the Luthor name mentioned, you look like you want to punch something."
"It's not that far off."
Jonathan shifted the tarp back onto the ship, if to keep himself busy more than anything else.
"It has to do with the unique circumstances of your adoption. Lionel helped get the ball rolling, and he made sure everything was legal. There's a lot of paperwork that needed to go into it, and he didn't let me forget what he did. And I think he used his children as pawns as well."
Yes, Harry recalled Lionel coming over a lot. He brought Lena, and occasionally Lex over. Perhaps, Lionel wanted to use his children as pawns to get a bit closer to Harry. Harry had been writing to Lena rather regularly, up until about a year ago. Harry figured, hoped, that Lena just got busy in her schooling and other things came up.
"After I got the land from the Rosses, Lionel got what he wanted, at least for now,' Jonathan said. "But, I fear that he's always around. And I know you were in contact with Lena and Lex."
"I haven't talked with Lex that much since Julian died, and his mother," Harry said.
Jonathan grimly nodded. He had his own theory about how Julian Luthor died.
"Lena, well we wrote back and forth. The letters just stopped a year ago."
"Maybe it's best that Lena moved away," Jonathan said. "Hopefully, she stays far away from Lionel's influence."
Harry hoped that wherever Lena was, she was doing fine. He had no reason to believe she was not at all. Still, it was odd that the letters stopped when they did.
"And I appreciate you showing me what you did. I know it can't be easy. I don't understand how people could do that to someone."
"I don't want you to," Harry said. "I don't want anyone to."
"Listen," Jonathan said. "My first instinct will always be to protect my family, but I can see how annoyed you're getting that I'm holding you back. And I can't say I would be less annoyed if my father was doing the same thing to me. Kent men, no matter what, we're stubborn and when heads butt like that, something has to give. Perhaps we're stubborn in our own way."
"Well, I don't know if there's a perhaps about it."
The two exchanged a smile. Harry could access his rocket ship, although he wanted to take a closer look at it, when Jonathan was not around. Hopefully, the two of them had a better understanding of how to communicate with each other and respect where the other was coming from.
Only time would tell before the next problem came off.
Through the sheer force of will, Chloe managed to integrate herself into Alex and Harry's group. The trio of teenagers, now fifteen, had grown very close over the years. So close, that Harry decided to let Chloe in on certain secrets. He was now on the field, in the process of demonstrating his abilities to Chloe. Namely his speed, super strength, and flight abilities, which had been more fine tuned than they were during that rough first flight which dropped him in front of Alex's house. Along with a few magic tricks for good measure, which made Chloe look awestruck.
Alex had known what Harry was capable of, naturally, but it still did not make it less than impressive. Chloe's awestruck eyes followed Harry as he handed her the bouquet of flowers that he conjured out of thin-air.
"Wow. I had no idea. Normally when people were gifted by the meteors, they have only one power. But, I guess you have multiple powers, and I guess the ability to charm women, doesn't really count, does it?"
Harry just broke out into a knowing smile. He put his hand on Chloe's to get the blonde teenager's attention.
"And what if I told you that I'm not gifted by the meteors?"
This caught Chloe's attention. Harry, with Alex's help, launched into a long explanation of what he was. Chloe's eyes widened more and more until Harry finished.
"I understand. It makes perfect sense."
"And I would have told you sooner, but now that I know you can be trusted."
Right, Chloe had to prove herself. Alex and Harry helped Chloe with her research with the gifted, but those under eighteen were off limits. And Chloe could not do anything too dangerous as well. Still, there was plenty of oddities in Smallville, without dragging those under eighteen under fire.
"I understand."
Chloe threw her arms around Harry's neck and gave him a passionate kiss. Harry wrapped his arms around his girlfriend and lifted her completely off of the ground. He set her down as the kiss broke and smiled.
"You've gotten a lot of redos," Harry quipped.
Chloe laughed and Alex just smiled.
"Well, Alex had more of a chance to get a headstart. It's just not my fault she didn't jump on it more easily."
"And now that both my lovely girlfriends know everything about me, or at least everything I can piece together, we can move forward."
Harry caught sight of the eager glint in Chloe's eyes.
"But not too forward. Not until we're at least all sixteen."
Chloe moved forward and pressed her body against Harry's. She matured in the last year, and she had been getting a bit more adventurous to the point where Harry had to cool her down.
"Sure there isn't anything that I can do to change your mind?"
Alex just chuckled and put her hand on the shoulder of her blonde girlfriend.
"Given Harry's nature, he's pretty adamant that we all can't do that, until we're all sixteen. Because, you know, age of consent in Kansas and all."
"I won't tell if you won't," Chloe said with a smile.
"And it will be worth the wait," Harry said.
"It better be. So how much experience did you have in your past life?"
Harry had not confirmed nor denied anything. Chloe had another question.
"So what about Lana and Emily? Those two would jump at the chance to jump you, given the way they look at you."
"She does have a point," Alex agreed.
Harry brushed his strand of hair back and looked thoughtful.
"Well, that's a bridge we'll cross when we come to it."
The Smallville Autumn dance approached rapidly. Lana, Emily, Chloe, and Alex were all ready to go and standing outside of the Kent Farmhouse. Chloe and Alex were going with Harry, and Lana and Emily were heading off with each other, as friends.
"You know something?" Emily asked the rest of the group. "Either people are going to think Lana and I are going together. Or Harry's bringing a harem of hotties to the dance."
"Emily," Lana said in a stern voice.
"Hmmm, interesting idea," Chloe muttered to Alex who just shook her head in response.
"Come on, Emily, don't be outing my evil plan this soon."
Harry turned up behind her and caused Emily to jump halfway up in the air. Lana caught sight of Harry and she never had been more jealous of two women than she had been right now. Chloe took Harry's right arm and Alex took Harry's left arm. Whatever reasonship they had been in, they had seen it to work.
"He does look rather handsome, Martha."
"Yes, if I was in high school….."
"I can't believe that you're gawking at him like this."
"Well, I can, because I'm not married."
Harry picked up the snatches of conversation between Martha, Nell, Eliza, and also Emily's mother, Rochelle. They had all gazed upon Harry. The moment he past his sixteen birthday, Harry's allure towards over women had grown stronger. It had been something he barely had a chance to understand in his past life, given the fact he needed to stay alive.
"Three more days, three more days," Chloe murmured.
Yes, Chloe's sixteenth birthday was in three days. Alex had been the oldest of the trio, followed by Harry.
"Just here to see you off," Martha said.
"Dad couldn't make it?" Harry asked.
"No, Jonathan had to go into town to get a few parts for the tractor," Martha said. "As much money as he spends on it, he might as well get a new model. But it belonged to his father and it's been passed down, so…."
Harry could fix it with magic very easily, but Jonathan Kent wanted to fix it by hand.
"We want you to have a good time but be responsible."
"I'm fine, can't say anything about these two though."
Chloe and Alex gave him mock looks of horror, and Harry just pulled his lovely girlfriends in and kissed them a couple of times each.
"We should get some pictures," Rochelle said. "This is an amazing night."
"Yes," Eliza said.
Eliza knew that sooner or later, Alex and Harry would get together, although her daughter being in a polygamus relationship had been shocking. Although not too shocking that she was attracted to girls, along with Harry. Still Harry had been a calming and level influence on Alex.
And Eliza was aware of the changes Harry was going through and she assisted him where she could. She could not fault Alex for her taste in men.
"So, are you going to ask him for a dance?"
"Why don't you ask him for a dance?"
Emily and Lana stood over by the punch bowl and debated whether or not to ask Harry for a dance. Emily put her hand on Lana's shoulder and pulled her friend.
"I'm sure Alexandra won't mind. You shouldn't be scared of her."
"And you're now projecting, Em. And you know, this is the girl who managed to get dodgeball banned from school because of how hyper-competitive she is."
Emily just smiled at the memory.
"To be honest, I would rather get a ride from Lex Luthor, than play dodgeball with Alexandra Danvers."
Lana just responded with a sigh and began to shake her head.
"Too soon?"
"Yes, much too soon," Lana remarked. "Lex was very lucky not to get killed in that wreck last month. It completely totaled the car."
"Someone pulled him from the wreckage. Must be the same person who pulled me from the wreckage. You know, the angel."
"You and your angel."
Lana took another long drink of punch. She saw Harry , Chloe, and Alex were going to have a good time.
"So, it seems like you saved Lex Luthor," Alex muttered. "The question is, does he know it?"
"No, but given what I know, he's obsessed with finding out," Harry said. "He doesn't know it's me though, he would have shown up at the farm. He knows where I live. But, he hasn't seen me in years."
"And he's my dad's boss,' Chloe said. "Lionel put him in charge of the plant."
"Oh, yes, knowing Lionel, this is some kind of test," Harry said. "The Plant isn't exactly high up on Lionel's list of priorities. So, if Lex messes up, it's not going to be a big deal."
"Not the dream job?"
"No?"
Lana walked over towards the rest of the group and cleared her throat.
"Harry….I was wondering…."
"Yes?"
Lana opened her mouth and changed course.
"Do you think that you could help me go over a paper that I'm working on this weekend?"
"Sure," Harry said. "But, in the meantime, would you like to dance, Ms. Lang?"
"Dance, yeah, if you want to, if that's okay with Alex and Chloe."
"Sure, go break a leg," Alex said.
"She doesn't mean that literally," Chloe said. "I think."
Harry invited Lana onto the dance floor and got him a couple of glares from some of the Football players who Lana turned down for a date. The two began to dance, with Harry's arms wrapped around her. He danced rather well, but Lana had a feeling that someone taught him well.
"I thought you were annoyed with me after last year. I acted like kind of a brat to you, Freshman year."
"I didn't hold it against you."
Harry pulled Lana in close and she could feel the heat just rise in her body.
"Freshman jitters. And you had certain expectations you thought you should live up to. Although, you should just be yourself."
"I don't know about that."
Harry just smiled, and the dance wrapped up. He could hear Lana's heart beating as her hands brushed against his strong arms. Harry decided to test the waters. Plus, given certain douchebag members of the Football team were watching, Harry could not help and rub it in their faces just a little bit.
He leaned in and kissed Lana on the lips. Lana's eyes widened a fraction, and her brain turned to mush as Harry worked his tongue into her mouth for the kiss.
Emily had been bent over, giggling. And the Smallville High Football team was pissed. They hated Harry and Chloe to begin with anyway, as they uncovered several unsavory things they did, and put it in the Torch. They had been under academic probation because of it.
Their coach tried to burn Harry and Chloe to death in response. But he had been literally terminated when Harry turned his powers back on him.
Only in Smallville.
"Ms. Dinsmore, I stole your date. It's only fair that I offer you a dance."
"So, does this end like Lana's did?"
Harry took Emily's hand and pulled her in. The beautiful brunette teenager pulled her arms around Harry's arm and pulled her into him.
"Awfully bold of you."
Emily just grinned at Harry.
"You only live once. And I almost died once."
"And you don't want to die unfulfilled. I get what you're going at."
"Well, I know that you're good at what you do. I'm sure Alex and Chloe aren't going to let you be pathetic."
"Mmm, you'll just have to wait and see. I wonder if you and Lana have been spying on me from her house."
"Oh, yes, through our telescope. How did you ever know?"
The dance and the banter continued. When the music stopped, Emily decided to move in for the kiss. Harry returned in and won the battle with tongues. Emily had a strong attraction to Harry, with the life debt she had for him unknowingly fueling that connection.
An anguished scream caught Harry's attention. He caught sight of a couple of the Football players high fiving and laughing like jackasses.
"Excuse me for a moment," Harry said.
Emily excused Harry and frowned.
"What the hell did you do, Braverman?"
Kenny Braverman, the high school Football team Quarterback, had been a tremendous waste of oxygen for some time. It was a wonder he had enough brain cells together to learn how to get to class.
"What did you know?"
A few of the Football players backed off. Kenny just looked proud of himself.
"I wouldn't worry about it, Kent. We just played a little practical joke in Scabigail."
Alex stepped into the picture. Kenny even looked intimidated with her. Perhaps it was the one time he tried some shit with Chloe and Alex, that ended with him getting a busted lip and a black eye which his entire team made fun of him for weeks.
"Alex, not tonight," Harry said. "I'll go talk to her."
"I know I can get rid of the body," Alex argued.
"Alexandra," Harry told her reproachfully.
Lana and Emily gave the Football players death glares, and Chloe's poison pen began to get twitchy to talk about more bullying on the part of the Smallville High Football team.
Harry stepped into the locker room and knocked on the door.
"Abby?"
"Harry? Is...that you?"
"Yes, Abby, it's me."
The door opened, and an otherwise pretty blonde girl who had the misfortune of having really bad ache, with scabs, opened the door. Harry had known Abigail Fine since Kindergarten and while they were not as close as Harry was with Chloe and Alex or even Emily and Lana, they got along alright.
"Here."
Harry handed Abby a handkerchief and she blew her nose and wiped her eyes.
"Did they hurt you? Physically, I mean, did they touch you?"
Those words were spoken in such stone cold seriousness, that Abby shuddered, but she shook her head.
"I thought….Brad he asked me tto the dance. But, it was a setup for them. They mocked me behind my back. They said that no guy would date a monster like me."
"Oh, Abby," Harry said. "You can do better. You shouldn't be fixated on Brad, Kenny, and the rest of the Douche crew and what they think. I can assure you, not much going on between those ears anyway. You're much better than then, because of who you are on the inside."
Harry crouched down and brushed Abby's hair back so he could look her in the face.
"That ache, and those scabs, they will clear. You'll have clear skin and they'll be the same idiots. The same assholes they always were, because they're rotten on the inside. And you'll be the same sweet girl who offered a goofy and awkward boy a seat on the bus. Even after all of his classmates made fun of him, after his parents put him in plaid."
Abby just smiled, oh she remembered that. Kids could be cruel. And they grew up to be teenagers.
"I just wish I could be pretty and popular like Lana Lang."
"You just have a few blemishes, that will heal, and popularity is fickle. Trust me. Now tell me, what's important to you?"
"I really do hate all of this," Abby said while pointing out the scabs and scars on her face. "I've tried everything, but nothing works. Not for a long time."
Harry had just had an idea of how he could help his friend, but he had to be discreet about it. Finding the right minerals was difficult, but doable.
"Come on."
Harry took Abby by the hand and walked her out of the bathroom. Chloe and Alex waited outside. Harry filled them in, along with Lana, what happened. The two girls were not happy, and Lana looked to be fuming.
"Were any of the cheerleaders involved in this bullshit? Because, I swear to God, if they were, I will kick them off the squad if they were."
One of the things Lana Lang did not approve of was bullying. Abby looked astonished and perhaps she had been reading Lana wrong. Then again, Lana had mellowed out a lot this year.
"I'm...I don't know," Abby said. "I just want it all to stop right now. I don't want to go on."
Harry picked up on some alarm bells with Abby's mood, and he could tell that Alex saw it as well. Eliza had taught Alex how to pick up on certain red flags. They would have to keep a close eye on Abby, so she did not do anything drastic.
The night wrapped up with Harry, Alex, Chloe, Abby, Lana, and Emily all outside.
"I'll make sure you get home alright," Harry gently told Abby.
"It's fine, I can….you don't have to."
"I want to."
"And I'll help you out with your other problem."
Abby had felt a bit optimistic about Harry's promise. If anyone was smart enough to cure her blemishes, it was Harry.
Harry felt a sense of dread. Chloe and Alex looked at him curiously. Seconds later, a police cruiser pulled up, and the door opened up. Sheriff Ethan Miller, an old friend of the Kent Family, stepped out, and looked rather grim and somber.
"Harry."
"What is it, Ethan?"
"Your father was in an accident. He's in critical condition at the hospital. Martha's there right now. If you want, I can get you up there."
"Thanks," Harry said. "Alex, make sure they get home safe."
"I will," Alex said. "And once they're settled in, I'll meet you."
Harry had a really bad feeling. He could feel the curtain between the realms of life and death part instantly.
After Ethan dropped Harry off, Harry rushed into the hospital. Eliza had already been there with Martha.
"Harry," Eliza said. "He's….well we're just waiting to see."
"What happened?" Harry asked.
It was Martha who finally answered.
"Jonanthan's truck crashed into a tree after he had a massive heart attack. I didn't find out until a little bit before you did, when Ethan called me. Fortunately he was close by the school she he could pick you up."
Harry sat down between Martha and Eliza. They waited, and oh boy, was the wait anguishing. Seconds ticked around the clock. Each second to Harry represented another swing of the Reaper's unrelenting scythe.
The door opened. Doctor Melinda Harden stepped out with a grim look and Harry knew, he knew already what happened.
"Mrs. Kent. Your husband passed away at nine forty three PM tonight on the operating table from complications."
Harry wrapped his arms around a sobbing Martha and looked a bit shaken himself. Although he knew, he knew Jonathan had been racing towards death because he could feel it the second Ethan showed up to meet him.
But, if there was a chance, he did not want to break his mother's spirit.
"Martha, I'm sorry," Eliza said.
"Mom, it's...we'll get through this," Harry whispered.
