The Beginning Of Darkness
On a quiet night, Grey sat in his own house. He was in a small room, and the condition of his house looked run-down. The light from a single bulb in the room was the only thing allowing him to see himself in the mirror, and it wasn't just his tense face reflecting the strain of life, but a shadow filled with stress and despair. Everything was eerily silent, except for the sound of his own breath. Grey's life was at its lowest point, or if one were to compare it to a deep pit, he was at the very bottom. Grey was a 25-year-old man who had just lost his job. He was poor and struggling to survive. He didn't know who to turn to or where to find hope anymore.
He had lost his parents in a car accident five years ago. He wasn't there at the time, but he received the news from his aunt, who was close to his father. Since then, he had to bear the burden and take responsibility for everything.
"Why does life have to be like this… why… why!?" He had a younger sister named Kara, who was only 13 years old. Kara was his only hope, the one thing that kept him going. She was his reason to keep fighting for survival. But today, it seemed like luck was on Grey's side, because he received a phone call from a company inviting him for an interview.
"Hello, is this Mr. Grey? This is BlackShadow Company. If you pass the interview, we will offer you the position of Assistant Technology Manager. Your main duties will involve managing technology-related tasks and supporting the Technology Manager. The starting salary is $30,000, with additional benefits depending on your experience. We believe you will excel in this position, as we've received excellent recommendations about your skills and work ethic, despite your young age."
Grey did not immediately accept. He decided to do some research on the company. When he typed the company's name into a search engine, he found out that BlackShadow had once been a leading global company in the past decade, well known in the tech industry for its developments in AI and medical equipment. However, in recent years, the company's reputation had plummeted drastically due to rumors of shady dealings and mysterious disappearances of employees around the same time.
Grey wasn't too concerned about the rumors. He knew this was his last chance to turn his life around. So, he called the company back and said, "I'll accept the position."
As soon as he spoke those words, his mind went eerily silent, as if there was no turning back.
What will he do when he faces the dark truth within the company he is about to step into? The answers will come in the next chapter…
