Chapter 10 - A Private Club

Soon it was the lunch break.

Minutes after the bell went off, Louis' phone buzzed with an incoming call. Checking the interface screen, he realized it was a call from Kaz.

- "Hey, you should be on a break right about now, yeah?"

- "Mhm, what's the matter?"

- "Nothing! Erm, didn't you say you live by yourself? I was wondering if I can rent two of your rooms? I know this sounds too out of left wing, but I don't want to keep my little sister in that dangerous neighborhood anymore…"

- "Yeah no, it's fine actually. My house is large enough. I'll send you my address later when I come back home, and you can start moving your things over slowly."

Louis agreed, and he didn't mind charging Louis with the lowest price on the market.

His house was big and empty as it was.

He decided to move to the master bedroom and leave his current bedroom to Kaz, while his little sister can take the guest room his dad used to sleep in when the parents fought.

Honestly, the house could accommodate two more cohabitating in the basement, as they had a bunk bed stationed there for some reason.

With some efficient cleaning, the house could easily fit five people, and even six could squeeze in if Louis brought someone to share the master bedroom with him.

It had been a while, but only now did Louis realized how large and empty the house had been for all these days.

He was caught up with either gaming, sleeping, reading fantasy novels, erotic novels, or mastrubating to porn and hentai ever since he started living alone.

In school, he was either late to class or sleeping in class, and sometimes skipping class altogether.

If not for his high presence on the field as an above average soccer player, his identity would be no more than the "Classmate A" in everyone's hearts.

Kaz expressed his gratitude once again and said he would check with the doctors on when they'd release his sister.

After chatting up for a bit, the call hung up and Louis stood from his chair, stretching.

The cafeteria ought to be crowded right now and he didn't have enough time to go to a food stall outside the school's campus.

"Skipping lunch isn't going to get me killed anyway, so I'll do something else instead," Louis decided to prepare something for his future life as a college student.

While the soccer scholarship and the welfare programs in the education system will give him an edge to get into college after graduation, it was better for his resume to be as colorful as possible.

The first step was to spike up the grades on his high school degree. No matter how many internal tests one had or how high their score was, only the external exams issued by the department of education would be recorded in the student's file.

The internal exams from the school are more of a grading system so that the teachers would know which field suits the student best in preparation for the big exams.

For example, if years of exams showed that a certain student had talent for physics and math, but was terrible in history and art, their last three years of school would be concentrated on the scientific field of studies.

Extracurricular activities such as club activities and volunteering works could also increase a student's chances for preferential treatment when processing college applications.

Thus, Louis decided to start a club of his own.

Now, Louis made it into the administration building on campus, and he waited in the lounge outside the Student Representative Office.

"Advisor Martin is calling out for you, student Louis," a voice came from the side, and Louis stood up while greeting the cute female assistant.

She was also a student.

Louis stood up, smiled with a nod, and entered the office. He gently closed the door behind him, waiting for the advisor to gesture with a nod, then he sat down on the empty chair across the desk.

"Advisor…" Louis started, but the teacher interrupted.

"Just calling me Martin is fine," he expressed with a genial smile. "In this office, I like to interact with young adults like yourselves as friends. If you have anything you need help with, just speak candidly. Alright?"

As he spoke, he opened a file with Louis' name and student ID on it. The more he read, the more his eyebrows rose.

Martin couldn't help but chuckle. "Quite the history you have here, buddy."

"Yeah…" Louis rubbed the back of his head and chuckled. "Well, I wanted to start my own club, so…"

Martin closed the file and looked up at Louis with interest. "A club? You realize that you have about three months left before graduation, right?"

Although it was three months to the final exams to be exact, but everyone knew that the month following the exams was just a formality to third-year high school students.

School had nothing to offer to them at that point so even if they skipped classes for the entire month, no one would start barking and biting about it.

Unless the audience of this club extended to the students from the later years, but the asymmetry in schedules could be a real stress.

"As a scholarship beneficiary, some of the regulations are mended to accommodate your needs, such as discarding the minimum bar of five members to maintain a club activity on campus, as well as the club tax as long as you stick the stock budget…"

Martin quickly transitioned from the adult who wanted to persuade Louis to the supportive friend he claimed himself to be.

It was because he noticed the frown forming on Louis' face.

He understood that for students like Louis, merely exhibiting signs of wanting to switch their behavior and lifestyle around was already commendable, and he shouldn't try to block this student's efforts to make a change.

In a split second, he decided against advising Louis to focus on his studies and made up his mind to support this student in other areas.

Louis' eyebrows eased, generating some goodwill toward this advisor of his.

He was glad he didn't have to listen to a life lecture, and so he smiled. "I understand, can you please had me the application?"

"Sure, I'll even help you fill it up." Martin was very supportive—he even stood up with the application file, moved around to Louis' side, and guided him through every step while explaining in detail.
