I blasted Kelvin with the shocking news in the most unexpected way immediately I got to the office.
Kelvin's eyes widened,he was shattered,this has been his dream job and now it was about to be hijacked just like that.
"Why?what have I done?look if it's about the other day when I spilled on your dress look I am sorry just tell me what you want me to do and I will do it but don't fire me"
Kelvin's eyes was gradually clouding.
I shook my head as I tried looking up to his eyes."it's not about that,I just don't want you here anymore"
I made that decision,not because I felt threatened by Olivia but because I just can't deal with Kelvin.
Kelvin's eyes welled up in tears as he pleaded"please Leila, don't do this,I love my job, I'll do anything,I'll work twice as hard,I'll take a pay cut,just don't fire me please,look I know you are the manager of this company and you can do as you please but please"
My expression softened,but I stood firm.
"I am sorry Kelvin,my decision has nothing to do with your performance, you're an excellent employee but ..... it's complicated"
Kelvin's face contorted in desperation."wait...is it Olivia?did she complain about me?I swear I didn't do anything wrong?"
I hesitated unsure how much to reveal and how it'll affect their relationship.
"It's not just Olivia.It's....the situation.You look so much like....I can't risk anymore tension or conflicts"
Kelvin's voice cracked"but I have told you I am not the person you are talking about....I don't know you and I have never met you before"he blotted out.
My heart ached,but I maintained composure"I am sorry but this isn't easy for me either,I have think about the bigger picture,I need this for my mental health"
Kelvin slumped defeated"but at least tell me why... what's going on,is Olivia right?"
I sighed,my eyes locked on Kelvin's pleading face"it's not just Olivia, it's me...I am the one with the problem,I'm just trying to protect myself,my family and this company"
Kelvin's expression transformed from despair to shock"protect yourself from what?"
My resolve began to crumble.Had I said too much?And finally I rolled my mind and my jaw st in determination.
"You can stay but in a different capacity,we'll place you in another department,that way,we won't frequently crash"
Kelvin's face lit up with hope"really?you'd do that for me?"I nodded"just stay clear"
Kelvin's expression turned resolute"I promise,thank you Leila...for believing in me"I smiled, relieved"let's make this work Kelvin"
As we shook hands,I felt a weight lift off my shoulders,maybe this would solve everything now that we've finally come to a compromise.
I continued my day afterwards,soon it was lunch time and my friends dragged me to eat.
As we ate,we discussed but the most interesting part of the discussion was when Emily said"girl,I think I like Kelvin"she spat.
I was stunned,I wasn't mad just surprised,I then exploded her"he's married or supposedly has a fiancee and he seems to love her"
That was true,he kind of loved Olivia when I met him that day.Emily was heartbroken to hear the news"oooh but it's ok,I will find someone else"
"You had better"Rachael replied her.
The day passed and nothing dramatic happened,I was super relieved but I couldn't stop thinking about how Kelvin felt when I broke the news to him.
I adjusted myself and went home,as usual, Antonio always git home before me despite being a doctor.
As I walked into my house, Amanda's infectious smile brightened my long and hectic day.
"Mummy's home!"she exclaimed,throwing her arms around me.I hugged her tightly, feeling a sense of normalcy after the morning's drama at the office"hey sweetie, how was school?"
Antonio appeared from the kitchen,a warm smile on his face"hey hon,welcome,how was your day?"
I kissed Amanda's forehead and headed to the kitchen to greet Antonio properly,he turned around and hugged me tightly with a kiss on my cheek.
"My day was eventful"I said raising an eyebrow but then I noticed something,he was cooking and the maid,Martha was also in the kitchen.
"Wait...you are cooking again?"I asked to hear his reply,he was just so sweet,he just likes surprising me.
"Yeah but with Martha's help"Martha waved at me as turned the soup she was making.
Antonio's curiosity piqued"oh!so what happened at the office today?"
I filled him on the dinner conversation with Emily and Rachael drama and how I almost got Kelvin fired leaving out no details.Antonio listened attentively,his expression unreadable.
When I finished telling him,he asked"so how did he feel about it at first?"
I shrugged"surprised and so perplexed,he felt like crying..."
"Well it's a good thing he didn't end up getting fired,that might probably be the only means of survival"Antonio nodded thoughtfully.
"No,I doubt that,Olivia is rich so I don't think if he lose his job they would be poor"
As we chatted,Amanda tugged on my hand,"mummy,can we watch a movie tonight? it's been so long"I smiled"of course sweetie, let's pick one out after dinner"
The evening unfolded peacefully with Antonio,Amanda and I snuggled up on the couch,watching a heartwarming film.
But as the night drew to a close,my mind wandered back to Kelvin,had he taken the news okay?was he struggling to come to terms with his new reality?
As I drifted off to sleep,I couldn't shake off the feeling that this wasn't the end if Kelvin's saga.
