Chapter 85 - Chapter 85

**Arc 5: The Veil of Betrayal**

**Chapter 10: Unmasking Shadows**

Jae-min, Yuna, and Dr. Ren remained in the dimly lit office. The decrypted data on Project Nexus weighed heavily in Jae-min's hand. He knew this was no ordinary corporate scheme—it was something far more dangerous.

"Project Nexus?" Yuna echoed, her brow furrowed in concern. "What exactly is it?"

Ren adjusted her glasses, tapping a few keys to pull up a visual of the files. "From what I can gather, it's a multi-phase initiative. Phase one involves manipulating key political figures, which they've already begun. Phase two… involves a new type of energy weapon that can alter the fabric of reality."

"Alter reality?" Jae-min repeated, his voice sharp. "That sounds insane."

Ren nodded. "It's experimental technology based on inter-dimensional energy extraction. If it works, they could rewrite natural laws or, worse, destabilize them entirely. They've already made progress—enough to warrant immediate concern."

Yuna crossed her arms, her expression hardening. "We can't let them complete it. If they succeed…"

"It would give them power beyond imagination," Jae-min finished, his jaw clenched. "But how do we stop it?"

Ren leaned back in her chair. "There's only one way: you need to infiltrate their primary lab. It's located in a highly secure underground facility beneath their corporate headquarters."

Jae-min's mind raced. This wasn't just about money or corporate dominance anymore—it was about the future of the world. He couldn't afford to hesitate.

"Fine," he said decisively. "We'll hit the lab. But we'll need more intel, a distraction, and a way in."

---

Hours later, Jae-min stood atop a high-rise building overlooking the Horizon Corporation's headquarters. Yuna was beside him, dressed in tactical gear, her expression determined. The night sky was clear, the city lights sparkling below them.

"This isn't going to be easy," Yuna said, checking her equipment. "Their security is top-notch."

"Good thing we don't do easy," Jae-min replied with a smirk, adjusting his earpiece. "Aria, you ready?"

In his mind, Aria's voice rang out, clear and confident. "Always. I've already infiltrated their surveillance system. You've got a fifteen-minute window before they detect anything unusual."

"Let's move," Jae-min said.

---

They rappelled down the side of the building, landing silently on a balcony connected to the 30th floor of the Horizon headquarters. Aria guided them through the labyrinthine corridors, bypassing guards and security cameras with precision.

As they reached the entrance to the underground lab, Yuna paused. "Something doesn't feel right."

Before Jae-min could respond, the sound of footsteps echoed behind them. Turning quickly, they found themselves face-to-face with a squad of armed guards.

"Intruders!" one of the guards shouted, raising his weapon.

"Guess we're doing this the hard way," Jae-min muttered, stepping forward.

Yuna drew her weapon, and the two sprang into action. In a blur of movement, Jae-min disarmed the nearest guard, spinning him around and using him as a shield. Yuna fired precise shots, disabling the guards without killing them.

Within moments, the hallway was clear.

"Nice work," Yuna said, reloading her weapon.

"Thanks," Jae-min replied, wiping sweat from his brow. "Let's keep moving."

---

They descended into the underground lab, where a massive, high-tech chamber awaited them. In the center of the room was a large device pulsing with a strange, blue energy.

"That must be the core of Project Nexus," Yuna said, her eyes wide. "If we destroy it…"

"We stop them," Jae-min finished. He pulled out a small, high-explosive charge from his bag. "Cover me while I set this up."

As Jae-min worked, the room suddenly trembled. Alarms blared, and the walls lit up with red warning lights.

"They've activated a lockdown!" Aria's voice warned in his earpiece. "You need to hurry!"

"Almost… got it," Jae-min said, securing the charge. "Done! Let's get out of here!"

But as they turned to leave, a figure appeared in the doorway—a man in a sleek black suit, his eyes cold and calculating.

"Leaving so soon?" the man said, his voice calm despite the chaos around them. "I don't think so."

"Who the hell are you?" Jae-min demanded, stepping in front of Yuna protectively.

The man smiled faintly. "You can call me Orion. I oversee Project Nexus. And unfortunately for you, you won't be leaving here alive."

Yuna raised her weapon, but before she could fire, Orion raised his hand, and a pulse of energy rippled through the air, knocking both Jae-min and Yuna off their feet.

Jae-min groaned, struggling to stand. "What… was that?"

"Phase two of Project Nexus," Orion said, stepping closer. "A glimpse of the power you'll never have."
