Chapter 18 - Chapter 17: One Shot for Survival

Game Name: [One Bullet Gamble]

Before the game begins, each player selects a revolver from the table, takes 10 bullets and a die, and takes their seat.

The game is divided into four phases:

1. Loading Phase:

Each player loads their revolver with bullets. They can choose to load one bullet or leave the chamber empty.

2. Dice Phase:

The die has six sides, numbered 1 through 6. Each player chooses a number, places the die on the table, and covers it with their hand.

3. Challenge Phase:

Players may challenge others, accusing them of having no bullets in their gun by saying, "I bet your gun has no bullets."

If Player B is successfully challenged and their gun is empty, they must load one bullet, and Player A receives a utility card.If Player A fails the challenge and Player B's gun is loaded, Player A must load a bullet into their own gun, and Player B gets a utility card.

Each player can challenge once per round or opt not to challenge.

4. Shooting Phase:

All players fire their guns at themselves according to the number they placed on their die. For instance, if the die shows 3, they must pull the trigger three times.

The game lasts for five rounds. Each round's dice value contributes to the score. After five rounds, scores are tallied, and the bottom four players are eliminated.

Special Conditions:

If four players are eliminated mid-game, the game ends immediately. If a player dies from a bullet, the game ends with the three lowest-scoring survivors eliminated.

Ultimately, only two players will survive.

In case of a tie after the fifth round, a sudden-death round will occur. Furthermore, [Immortal Type] utility cards are banned for this game.

After the masked man explained the rules, murmurs of disbelief filled the room.

"This is madness," someone whispered.

Participants must make critical decisions in every phase, balancing luck and strategy.

A bold player pulling the trigger three or four times risks death before the fifth round.A cautious approach, firing only once per round, might ensure survival but could result in a low score and elimination.

The introduction of utility cards adds another layer of unpredictability. With every minute, the players are gambling with their lives, creating an atmosphere of suffocating tension.

No wonder it's called One Bullet Gamble.

Some players fixated on the mention of the banned [Immortal Type] cards.

"Wait, what? An Immortal Card?" one player exclaimed.

"Does that mean two lives?" another marveled.

However, Jiang Yu's heart sank. His [Immortal Card] couldn't be used in this game. He had no choice but to participate, knowing his life hung by a thread.

In the palm of his hand, he secretly examined the card he had just acquired and was thrilled to discover its details:

[Grade A Utility Card: Exemption]

Effect: During the Shooting Phase, you may skip shooting but still earn the corresponding dice score.

This card could be a game-changer, especially in later rounds. Jiang Yu envisioned placing a 6 on his die and gaining an easy six points—unbeatable.

The masked man scanned the group. "Before we start, players may exchange their existing utility cards for exclusive [One Bullet Gamble] utility cards. Does anyone wish to trade?"

Player 26 stepped forward immediately, trading two cards for two exclusive game cards. Player 2 followed, trading one card, as did Player 8.

Jiang Yu hesitated but chose not to exchange his cards. His luck and the newly acquired [Exemption Card] gave him confidence. Trading the [Immortal Card] felt like throwing away a lifeline.

Player 34 also refrained from trading. Jiang Yu recalled that the boy had three utility cards, one of which had already been used in a prior game. The remaining [Suspension Card] wasn't valid for trading.

Player 20, whom Jiang Yu barely knew, also didn't trade. Jiang Yu suspected this player had at least one card based on their non-voting participation in earlier games.

With trades concluded, the masked man directed them to the round table. "Six players, please choose a revolver. May fortune favor your choice. One minute until the game begins."

Jiang Yu's system suddenly activated in his mind:

[Host has entered a death game: Random Buff Activated.]

[Intelligence +10%, Luck +100%.]

The announcement filled Jiang Yu with excitement and confidence. With heightened intelligence and phenomenal luck, he felt ready to dominate the game. The world seemed sharper; every glance, every expression of his opponents became clear as day.

"System, what's my current level of intelligence and luck? Give me a comparison."

[Your intelligence surpasses 86.2% of the global population. Your luck is at an extraordinary level. If you participated in a lottery, the odds of winning first prize would be highly favorable.]

Bolstered by this revelation, Jiang Yu reminded himself not to get overconfident. Caution was key.

Approaching the table, he inspected each of the six identical revolvers. They all appeared standard—six chambers, capable of being loaded with a maximum of six bullets. Yet one felt slightly heavier in his hand. Was it a trick of the mind?

Suddenly, Player 26, a brash young man, snatched a revolver and sneered. "Quit overthinking. They're all the same. Just pick one already."

Jiang Yu ignored him, maintaining his vigilance. After all, this wasn't just a game—it was a death trap orchestrated by the pig-faced man.

The others quickly chose their revolvers with little concern, seemingly focused on their strategies for the upcoming phases.

Each player received 10 bullets and one die from the bull-masked referee, then selected their seats around the table.

The referee placed a die between his fingers, raising it as he explained, "Now, roll your dice. The shooting order will follow the numbers rolled, from smallest to largest."

One by one, the players rolled their dice:

Jiang Yu threw a 5 and smiled. His enhanced luck didn't disappoint. The boy, Player 34, rolled a 4.Player 26 landed a 6, the highest.Player 2, the popular influencer, rolled a shaky 3. Her fear was palpable.Player 20 rolled a 2, narrowing his chances of survival. Finally, Player 8 rolled a dismal 1, becoming the first to face the gun.

The shooting order was set: Player 8, Player 20, Player 2, Player 34, Jiang Yu, and Player 26.

The referee lifted a sign reading [Loading Phase] and addressed the group:

"Players, please load your revolvers beneath the table. You may load one bullet or leave the chamber empty. Rotate the cylinder and place your gun back on the table. If you wish to use a utility card, raise your hand."

Jiang Yu made a show of loading his revolver beneath the table while rapidly calculating.

It was the first round; most players were likely to play cautiously, using dice values of 1 or 2. He reasoned that leaving his gun empty and choosing a dice value of 1 would be the safest move. No one would risk challenging such a low-stakes setup.

Feigning confidence, Jiang Yu slid a bullet into his sleeve, pretended to spin the cylinder, and placed the gun back on the table.

The other players followed suit, though Player 2 hesitated before finally completing her turn.

The referee scanned the table and declared, "The Loading Phase is complete." Raising another card labeled [Dice Phase], he instructed:

"Place your dice on the table. The number you choose will determine how many times you pull the trigger."
