But Xinan and Jiang Yurou decided to see their good deed through to the end and drove Lin Wei to a nearby pharmacy.
Lin Wei asked them to wait outside and went into the pharmacy by herself.
Upon entering, the doctor immediately noticed the blood streaming down her forehead, so he quickly prescribed her medicine.
"How much?"
"120."
Lin Wei took a deep breath and handed over the cash.
Seeing Lin Wei come out, Xinan hurriedly approached her and said with concern, "That wound needs timely dressing, or it might leave a scar."
Xinan pointed to a bench not far away, "Why don't we sit there for a bit and take care of the wound now?"
This time Lin Wei didn't refuse and obediently nodded her head.
Xinan let Lin Wei sit on the bench, dipped a cotton swab in alcohol, "Bear with it for a moment, it might sting a bit."
"Mhm mhm."
Lin Wei looked frail and delicate but unexpectedly endured very well, not uttering a word until the wound was bandaged.
After the wound was taken care of, Lin Wei silently packed the remaining gauze and medicine back into the medical kit and then looked up at Xinan and Jiang Yurou, "Thank you so much for today."
Xinan smiled slightly, "No need to thank us; we just felt that man was being too much of a bully."
Jiang Yurou also added, "Yeah, I just can't stand seeing men bully women."
Xinan seemed to remember something, "Oh, by the way, what should we call you?"
"Just call me Lin Wei."
"Alright."
Thinking about the commotion Jiang Yurou caused in the bar today, Xinan asked with some worry, "Lin Wei, will today's incident affect your work in any way?"
The man from earlier looked to have some background, and after being beaten so badly today, he surely wouldn't let things go. Xinan feared he might come back to trouble Lin Wei further.
"Don't worry about me," Lin Wei reassured her, "After today, I won't be working there anymore. I have a lot of things to take care of at school during this period."
"You're still at school?" Although Lin Wei looked young, Xinan had never considered that she might be a student.
Lin Wei answered with a smile, "Yep."
"Working while studying, don't you find it hard?" Jiang Yurou asked, somewhat surprised. She felt nearly overwhelmed by her classes alone.
A hint of helplessness flickered in Lin Wei's eyes, "I have no choice, my family isn't well off, and I have a younger brother who is about to start high school soon, so we need the money."
"I see." Wary of bringing up sad stories for Lin Wei, Xinan changed the subject, "By the way, which university are you attending?"
"Film Academy."
Xinan paused for a moment, then laughed, "That's quite a coincidence; turns out I'm your senior sister then."
Lin Wei hadn't expected such a coincidence either.
Jiang Yurou spoke up, "After all this, it turns out you two are schoolmates, what a fate."
Seeing her own schoolmate made Xinan very happy, so she offered, "By the way, do you need to get back to campus now? How about we give you a ride?"
Lin Wei glanced at the time; there were no buses at this hour, and it was difficult to hail a taxi in this area. She replied, "That would really be a big help, thank you."
Jiang Yurou said, "It's nothing, just a small favor."
Since Jiang Yurou wasn't very familiar with the roads around the film academy, Xinan was the one driving.
As she drove, she said, "I remember there used to be a wonton shop around here that was quite good. I used to eat there often when I was a student."
Lin Wei glanced out the window and said with a smile, "Are you talking about the one at the South Gate?"
Xinan nodded, "That's the one. I remember their landlady was really interesting. Sometimes when the shop wasn't busy, she'd tell us all sorts of funny stories from her past."
"That place did have really good food."
Xinan wasn't driving fast, but the ride was quite smooth.
Twenty minutes later, they finally arrived at the entrance to the film academy.
"Senior Sister Xi, thank you, and thanks to your friend for giving me a ride back," Lin Wei initially wanted to offer to treat them to a meal another day, but then she thought they must be very busy and so she didn't say it.
"It's no trouble," Xinan said.
After Lin Wei left, Xinan drove around the film academy once more with Jiang Yurou, remarking, "I haven't been back here in years; it seems like a lot has changed."
Jiang Yurou smiled and said, "With Jing City developing so fast, it's not about years—things can change in just a few days."
Xinan chuckled, "That's true."
Xinan drove to Jiang Yurou's private apartment. It was getting late, so Jiang Yurou invited her to stay over for the night.
The apartment wasn't large, but it was decorated warmly and comfortably, primarily in beige tones that felt soothing to look at. The living room coffee table was adorned with a variety of fruits and pastries, giving off a cozy atmosphere.
"Rourou, you're back. Do Uncle Jiang and Aunt Jiang know?" Over the years, Jiang Yurou had a strained relationship with the Jiang Family, but Xinan knew her parents still cared about her.
Jiang Yurou poured Xinan a glass of water, "I didn't tell them I was back, but they probably know."
Even though Jiang Yurou had rarely contacted them over the years, she knew her parents always kept an eye on her whereabouts—after all, she was the only daughter of the Jiang family.
"Rourou, so many years have passed; Uncle Jiang and Aunt Jiang have probably come to terms with it by now."
The Jiang family only had Jiang Yurou as a child, and both Mr. and Mrs. Jiang hoped she would return home to take over the family business. But Jiang Yurou's heart was not in it; she didn't want to be trapped here for her whole life.
Because of this, Jiang Yurou had a big fight with her parents, and she ended up not even attending the college entrance exam. Out of desperation, her parents had no choice but to send her abroad to study.
"Right," Jiang Yurou said softly, "When there's time, I'll go to the Jiang family and have a good talk with them."
"Okay, good."
Xinan was really happy to see Jiang Yurou take this step, knowing that there should be no lasting resentment between family members. Yurou had been drifting away for years, and although she didn't mention it, she missed her parents and her family, at least to some extent.
After showering, Xinan put on a new set of pajamas Jiang Yurou had given her, glanced at her phone, and sent Cheng Yi a message, "Rourou's back. I'm sleeping at her place tonight and won't be coming home."
After sending the message, Xinan dried her hair with a blow dryer, then went to bed.
Just as she lay down, her phone vibrated.
Cheng Yi simply replied with an "Okay."
Xinan exited the messaging app, set an alarm, and placed her phone aside without further attention to it.
Right then, Jiang Yurou also finished her shower and came out of the bathroom.
After getting ready, Jiang Yurou lay in bed and said reflectively, "It's been so many years since we've slept together like this."
Xinan replied, "Yeah."
"Remember when we were little, how Tan Bo, you, and I would often go to Brother Yi's place to play, and then we'd stay really late on purpose so we could sleep over at his house? We'd even take over his bedroom. We really made him mad back then."
