**Chapter 10: The "Perfect" Day**

It was a Saturday morning, and Quinn was already up earlier than she'd like, thanks to a meeting she'd somehow been convinced to attend. She had to admit, though, that the coffee was strong and the office wasn't as bad as she'd imagined. The sound of clacking keyboards and people talking about deadlines, sales figures, and quarterly profits was almost comforting in a way—like her own personal little chaos to manage.

But that didn't stop her from secretly wishing she could be anywhere else.

As she sat in her office, catching up on emails and work, her phone buzzed. It was a text from Ava:

Ava: We're going to the amusement park today! You in?

Quinn smirked. If there was one thing that could get her out of a business meeting early, it was Ava's text messages about spontaneous fun.

She quickly typed back.

Quinn: Absolutely. Let me just survive this meeting, and I'm there.

By 4 p.m., Quinn was in her car, zooming toward the amusement park with Ava. The park was filled with the laughter of families and groups of friends, the air thick with the smell of popcorn and cotton candy. It was one of those places that somehow managed to make you feel like a kid again.

Ava had been raving about the rollercoaster for weeks, and Quinn, despite her usual aversion to anything that involved high speeds and heights, found herself agreeing to go on it.

They stood in line, joking and laughing, when Ava suddenly nudged her. "So, have you heard from Ethan lately?"

Quinn froze mid-laugh. "What? No. Why would I?"

Ava gave her a look. "I don't know. It just seems like you two are... you know, starting to get along better. He seems to have your number more than you think."

Quinn rolled her eyes. "Ava, it's not like that. We're just... you know... two people who happen to know each other. There's nothing to 'get along' about."

Ava raised an eyebrow. "Mmhm. If you say so."

Before Quinn could protest further, they were ushered onto the ride, the steel tracks stretching high above them. As the rollercoaster climbed, Quinn tightened her grip on the safety bar, her stomach flipping in anticipation.

Ava, however, was grinning from ear to ear. "You're going to love this!"

The next few minutes were a blur of twists, turns, and screams. Quinn could feel her heart racing as the coaster looped and dropped. By the end of the ride, her hair was a mess, and her adrenaline was through the roof. She was breathing heavily as they both stumbled off, Ava practically bouncing with excitement.

"That wasn't so bad!" Ava said, practically glowing with the thrill.

Quinn let out a shaky laugh, her voice still a little shaky from the ride. "I'm never doing that again. I think I'm going to be dizzy for a week."

"You sure?" Ava teased. "Because you look like you had fun. Might want to ride it again. You know, to 'conquer your fears' and all that."

Quinn stuck out her tongue at her. "No way. One and done, my friend."

As they walked through the park, Quinn checked her phone and saw a text from her brother, Alexander.

Alexander: Where are you? I'm picking you up for dinner with Mom and Dad in an hour.

Quinn groaned. Family dinners were the last thing she wanted after a long week of work, but she knew better than to cancel. Family was family.

"I've gotta head out," she said to Ava. "I've got a dinner with the parents. Alexander's picking me up."

Ava looked disappointed. "Aww, come on! You're going to ditch me for your parents?"

Quinn smiled. "You know I love you, but family drama calls. You'll survive without me."

Ava shrugged. "Fine, but you owe me. Big time. You better make it up to me next weekend."

Quinn hugged her, grinning. "Deal. Next weekend, I'll make it a priority to take you to every amusement park ride you want."

As she left the park, she couldn't help but feel a little lighter. Maybe it was the rush from the rollercoaster, or maybe it was just the fact that, for the first time in weeks, she was letting go of the constant weight of work and expectations.

---

When Quinn arrived at the family dinner, her brothers were already seated at the large, polished wooden table, along with her parents. Alexander, her oldest brother, gave her a quick hug before grabbing her a glass of wine.

"Did you have fun at the amusement park?" Alexander asked, raising an eyebrow.

Quinn made a face. "I think I'm going to be sore for days."

"You're getting old, kid," her second brother, Matthew, teased. He had a way of making everything sound like an insult, even when he was being affectionate.

Quinn stuck her tongue out at him. "You're older than me, so I'm not hearing it."

Her parents laughed, but her mother, always keen on making sure everything was "just right," couldn't help but add, "You know, Quinn, you're getting to an age where you should be thinking about settling down. You're the only one of us who isn't even seeing anyone seriously."

Quinn's eyes widened, but before she could say anything, Alexander jumped in.

"Mom, we've been through this. Quinn's got her career, let her be. If she wants to date, she'll date."

Their mom sighed dramatically. "I just want you to be happy, sweetheart. That's all."

Quinn forced a smile, knowing exactly how these dinners went. As the evening wore on, she kept her mind busy with the food, her family's banter, and the endless "suggestions" her parents had about her love life.

Later that evening, when Quinn finally got home, she plopped onto her couch with a sigh. It had been a long, tiring day. But as she scrolled through Instagram, she saw something that made her pause.

It was a picture from Ava, showing her and Quinn on the rollercoaster. But there, in the corner of the picture, was a familiar figure. Ethan. He was standing in the background, wearing a casual jacket, and looking directly at the camera. He hadn't been on the ride with them, but there he was, watching them.

Quinn stared at the photo, her heart giving a strange little jolt. Ethan? What was he doing there?

She tapped her phone screen, about to type out a message to Ava, but then stopped herself.

"Maybe I'm just imagining things," she muttered, tossing her phone on the couch and lying back.

But deep down, she knew that the game had just gotten a little more interesting.
