Chapter 1 - Becoming the Billionaire’s Vet

In the dazzling, bustling city of Furwood, skyscrapers crowd the skyline, and streets are packed with an endless flow of people and high-speed cars. Known worldwide for its economic might and cutting-edge technology, Furwood is the ultimate city of progress. And at the very top of this power structure is the legendary Damian—a man with his fingers in every pie in town. Though he's often in the news, almost no one's had the privilege of seeing him up close. He stays holed up in his luxurious mansion on the outskirts, only enhancing the mystery around him.

Evan, on the other hand, is a down-to-earth young vet with a love for animals. His face had a soft, clean look, framed by light, slightly tousled hair that gave him a touch of casual elegance. With his plain, framed glasses, he gave off a gentle and intellectual vibe. His eyes were bright and clear, holding a gentle warmth, and whenever he was around animals, a soft smile would play on his lips. Though he wasn't exceptionally tall, his slender build and the grace in his movements made him seem approachable yet quietly confident. Back in vet school, he was called a "genius," and his gentle nature meant animals always relaxed around him.

One day, out of the blue, he gets a call from Damian's assistant, Lucas. Polite but firm, Lucas invites Evan to come and check on Damian's pets. Evan's first thought? A prank. But as soon as the call ends, a sleek, luxury car pulls up right outside his window. The driver? None other than Lucas himself—the same Lucas who's frequently on TV alongside Damian. That's all the confirmation Evan needs. With his vet bag in hand and heart pounding, he hurries downstairs and hops into the car.

The mansion that greets Evan as they arrive is beyond anything he's ever seen. Set against rolling hills, it's surrounded by manicured lawns and intricate statues. At the center stands a grand, European-style castle. Crystal fountains sparkle in the afternoon sun, and as they pass through the wrought-iron gates, Evan feels like he's entered another world. Once inside, he's led to the estate's pet room, which is more of a "pet palace." Soft carpets, custom climbing trees, advanced monitoring systems, even an air purifier designed specifically for pet dander—nothing's too good for Damian's animals.

As Evan steps into the room, he's surrounded by cats of every shape and color. A regal Ragdoll with bright blue eyes perches elegantly on a plush cat bed, its fur cascading like silk. Nearby, a lively ginger tabby leaps playfully from platform to platform, batting at dangling toys and chirping at Evan like it's putting on a show. In one corner, a sleepy Persian, its cloud-like fur draped luxuriously over a cushion, yawns and surveys the room with the air of a monarch. British Shorthairs, golden Chinchillas and some other cats stroll around, adding to the vibrant energy in the room.

Evan barely has time to take it all in before he starts work, crouching down and pulling out a small bag of treats to "persuade" his new clients to cooperate. He moves from one cat to the next, speaking in soothing tones and carefully checking each one with gentle hands, mindful not to stress them out. His calm demeanor works wonders—each cat relaxes under his touch, completely at ease. Lost in his work, Evan doesn't even notice someone observing him.

Standing quietly a few steps away was a tall figure, his gaze sharp and composed. His face seemed as if carved from marble, each feature perfectly defined, while his eyes—cool and focused—held an intensity that could pierce steel. Arms folded across his chest, he watched Evan with an interest that was hard to decipher. Lucas, who had followed close behind, seemed as though he was about to announce the figure's presence but halted, silenced by a subtle wave of the man's hand.

The man continued to watch silently, his expression unreadable, as Evan moved through each cat with meticulous care. Evan, absorbed in his work, had no inkling of the silent observer behind him.

Finally, Evan reaches the Ragdoll, the elegant blue-eyed cat who seems to have been waiting for its turn. The man steps forward and speaks, his voice smooth but carrying a faint gentleness, "This is Leo. He hasn't been himself lately. Could you check if anything's wrong?"

Evan nods, lifting Leo gently, studying his behavior and running a practiced hand over the Ragdoll's soft coat. "It's likely just the season change," he says after a moment, "It can sometimes make cats a bit out of sorts. A bit of extra attention or some new toys might help lift his spirits."

The man nods thoughtfully. Just then, Lucas clears his throat and says, "Evan, this is Damian, my boss."

Evan turns around, and for a second, he's speechless. Damian is even more striking in person—tall, broad-shouldered, his face perfectly structured yet touched with a distant, cold elegance that gives him an almost untouchable aura. Evan has a moment of pure awe, his mind racing with all the stories he's heard about this man.

But just as Evan's about to speak, Damian leans down, reaching out to gently stroke Leo's head. His previously stoic expression softens, and the coldness in his eyes fades into something warmer, almost tender. Watching Damian interact with his pet, Evan realizes there's a softer side to this "invisible king" of Furwood, hidden beneath his polished exterior.

Evan can't help but smile slightly. This Damian is nothing like the aloof, intimidating figure in the headlines. Here, surrounded by his cats, there's a surprising warmth and gentleness in the way he touches them, as though they're his family. Evan's heart skips a beat as he thinks, Maybe Damian isn't as cold as he seems.

As he watches Damian hold Leo, Evan feels that, in this strange and extravagant world, he might just find more than he expected.
