Chapter 2 - Lin Xi and Shen Yize

In the early morning, Shen Yize got up. Seeing that Lin Xi's door was wide open, the corners of his mouth slightly lifted.

Every morning, she would prepare clothes for him, have breakfast with him, and then see him off to work. She had never been slack in these five years.

Apparently, today was no exception!

Shen Yize went downstairs in a good mood. Looking at the empty living room, he frowned slightly and quietly sat on the sofa to look through his phone.

After a long while, still not seeing Lin Xi, he got up impatiently and walked around. He found that he was the only one in the house. Remembering what she said last night, the look of disbelief and sarcasm on his face froze.

He raised his hand to call Lin Xi. The person who had been available 24/7 had her phone turned off today.

The man's expression was beyond ugly. He was shrouded in gloom. Seeing that there was a message from that woman on WeChat, Shen Yize gritted his teeth and clicked on it.

Lin Xi: Mr. Shen, I left the divorce agreement on the dressing table. I don't want a cent of your money. Please inform me to handle the formalities after you sign it.

Lin Xi: If you have doubts about the reasons for the divorce, I'll explain here. For so many years, we slept in separate beds. You only touched me when you were drunk, and when you woke up, it was as if you had touched something you shouldn't have. It made me have to suspect!!!

Shen Yize stared at the phone, his face gloomy.

He couldn't imagine that these words could come from Lin Xi at all. Usually, she was as gentle as a kitten, but today, what she said was as prickly as a hedgehog.

Shen Yize rushed upstairs in two or three steps. He saw a kraft paper bag on the dressing table in her room.

He picked it up with a cold face. His slender fingers skillfully opened the file bag. Shen Yize's cold eyes scanned the contents in his hand. A sneer escaped from his throat, and there was obvious mockery in his eyes.

She didn't want any of the property under his name. It meant she was leaving with nothing.

Such a divorce agreement clearly didn't seem to be made with much thought. Didn't she marry him for money in the first place? How could she ask to leave with nothing?

Playing hard to get. But this time, it was quite a show. She even prepared the divorce agreement. Leaving aside the content, at least it looked quite formal. It was signed and fingerprinted.

Finally, when he saw the reason for divorce [The man's sexual orientation is unclear. It's a marriage of convenience. There is no emotional bond between husband and wife], the corners of his mouth trembled.

No wonder she had to explain!

Even though the agreement wasn't real, being said to have an unclear sexual orientation still made his face completely darken. The anger in his heart turned into a sneer at the corner of his mouth.

Shen Yize's clenched fist showed bulging veins. For the first time, he sent a voice message to that ungrateful woman.

His voice was unhurried, with his unique coldness and authority. "Come back and take this rubbish away, or you'll be responsible for the consequences."

Previously, Lin Xi had also made a fuss. Every time she got angry, Grandpa would put pressure on him right after.

Let's see how she'll end this time. It's just a wedding anniversary. Is it really that big of a deal?

There are so many festivals in a year. How could he possibly remember them all?

...

Lin Xi was lying in her small apartment at this moment. She didn't have to accommodate someone's habits, and she didn't have to worry about whether someone had eaten or had a stomachache. Life seemed to have returned to the days before her father died, when she waited for her mother to wake her up in the morning. Those days were solid and happy!

This house was bought when she was preparing the divorce agreement. Although it was a small two - bedroom apartment, she used her own money to buy it, and she felt at ease living here.

It was a relaxation she hadn't had for a long time. She lay lazily on the bed, staring at the ceiling, and unconsciously fell asleep. When she woke up, it was already afternoon.

Opening her phone and seeing the message from Shen Yize, Lin Xi pursed her lips, a bitter smile curving at the corner of her mouth.

It was rare for someone to reply to her message. Clicking on it and hearing his cold voice, Lin Xi took a deep breath.

Then she replied in a soft but firm voice, "Shen Yize, I'll take the consequences. Just sign it. Set a time and we'll go through the formalities. We've really held you back all these years."

Someone didn't reply to her anymore. Lin Xi stared at the chat record on her phone and smiled bitterly with a sense of relief. She had carefully accompanied him for five years, but in the end, she hadn't warmed his heart. It was time to end.

She murmured to herself: Lin Xi, once you give up, never look back.

She had originally made an appointment with Sun Miaomiao to have dinner together in the evening, but she got stood up by Sun Miaomiao because of overtime.

Lin Xi wasn't depressed. She strolled around the mall alone, shopping and eating. It was a rare and carefree time.

At night, in the black - and - white - styled office, the man sat elegantly in front of the desk, quietly reviewing the materials.

The suddenly ringing phone broke the silence of the room.

He casually answered the phone, and the excited voice of the other party came through.

"Yize, guess who I saw at Ye Se?"

"Just say it if you want to."

Shen Yize pinched the bridge of his nose. His voice carried his usual coldness and obvious disinterest.

Zhao Jin Yan knew his temperament and knew that this guy might hang up on him at any time, so he hurriedly gave the answer.

"Your wife." Zhao Jin Yan said meaningfully, "She's alone and seems to be in a good mood. Hey, there are quite a lot of people trying to chat her up."

The tip of the pen in Shen Yize's hand stopped. His voice was gloomy. "If my investment doesn't meet the expectations this year, I'll withdraw the funds next year."

The two of them had grown up together. Zhao Jin Yan couldn't fail to understand what he meant. He was blaming him for being too idle.

So he deliberately taunted him, "You have so much money that you can't spend it in several lifetimes. Do you expect your son to burn you and the money together after you die? Buddy, a kind reminder - be careful that you're busy making money while others are busy spending it for you. One day when you look in the mirror, you might find yourself cuckolded."

After saying that, Zhao Jin Yan quickly hung up the phone, not giving Shen Yize a chance to be venomous.

After the call was hung up, Shen Yize tightly gripped the pen in his hand, his eyes cold.

Then the corners of his mouth curved up with a dismissive sneer. He lowered his eyes and stared at the materials under his hand to suppress his emotions.

After dealing with all the documents and having a video conference for more than an hour, it was nearly ten o'clock when he got home.

The dark and empty scene of the house made him very uncomfortable. Because he didn't like having outsiders at home, the maid, Sister Liu, usually wouldn't stay overnight.

Previously, no matter how late he came back, Lin Xi would leave a light on for him in the living room.

This situation today was the first time in five years.

Seeing the woman's slippers beside the shoe cabinet and remembering Zhao Jin Yan's words, Shen Yize slightly curved the corners of his mouth, and his long and narrow black eyes were covered with a layer of coldness.

After taking a shower, he sat in the study to read the documents. When he picked up the water cup, he found that there wasn't a drop of water in it.

Before this, there was always water of a suitable temperature in his cup.

Someone with a dark face carried the water cup downstairs. Looking at the dark living room, he frowned.

Usually at this time, that woman would be curled up on the sofa watching TV. Either she would be crying so hard that it was annoying, or she would be laughing so hard that it was even more annoying.

Thinking of Lin Xi, Shen Yize frowned.

Just then, the phone rang inopportunely. Seeing the name on the screen, his frown deepened.
