Ethan, Lew, and Ava gathered in Ava's research room, surrounded by stacks of dusty books and scattered notes. Ava's eyes shone with excitement.
"The raven symbol is more than just a town emblem," Ava explained. "In ancient mythology, ravens were messengers between worlds, carrying secrets and prophecies."
Lew leaned forward. "You think the killer's using this symbolism to send a message?"
Ava nodded. "Yes. The raven pendant could be a signature, a calling card."
Ethan's mind connected the dots. "And the message on the tree – 'Echoes of the past will haunt the future' – might be related to Ravenswood's history."
Ava pulled out an old book. "I found a legend about Ravenswood's founding. A group of settlers made a pact with a mysterious figure, trading prosperity for secrecy."
Lew raised an eyebrow. "A pact? Sounds like an ancient cult."
Ava's voice dropped to a whisper. "What if the Ravenswood Ripper is connected to this cult? What if they're trying to fulfill an ancient prophecy?"
Ethan's grip on his pen tightened. "We need concrete evidence."
As they pored over Ava's research, a knock on the door interrupted them.
"Come in," Ava called.
Emily Wilson, the local journalist, entered. "I heard about the latest victim. Can I help?"
Ethan hesitated, unsure how much to share.
Lew nodded. "We could use your local knowledge."
Emily's eyes sparkled. "I've researched Ravenswood's history. I think I know where to find more information."
Ava smiled. "Welcome to the team."
As Emily joined their investigation, Ethan realized their team was growing. And so were the stakes.
