Based on the attributes and magical factions identified for each individual, Augustus meticulously recorded the essentials of meditation and the methods to construct magic strings using their respective elements. These instructions were compiled into prepared booklets and distributed to everyone.
"For a mage, their elemental affinity and magic strings are like the raw materials and tools in the hands of a skilled craftsman," Augustus explained, scanning the group with a calm yet serious gaze. "Learning to connect with the elements and construct your own magic strings is the pivotal step in transitioning from an apprentice to a full-fledged mage."
Hermione raised her hand, her curiosity evident. "Since magical systems are so well-structured and detailed, is there a corresponding hierarchy, like the levels we have at Hogwarts?"
Loki glanced at Augustus, who nodded, signaling him to elaborate. "Indeed, there is a precise hierarchy," Loki began. "It's based on the number of elements a mage can manipulate and their control over the magic strings. Broadly speaking, the levels of a mage are: Apprentice, Novice Mage, Junior Mage, Intermediate Mage, Advanced Mage, and beyond these are Grand Mage, Archmage, Holy Mage, and Legendary Mage. As for the Divine Realm… well, that is far too distant to discuss."
Curious, Parvati Patil asked, "What level are you at now, Loki?" Her question reflected the general sentiment—Loki, Lilian, and Sol Malfoy had joined earlier than the rest, and their levels were likely far beyond those of the beginners.
"Intermediate Mage, Ice faction," Loki replied with a faint smile. "But honestly, you should all look up to Sol. He started training a year after I did, yet he's already reached the same level as me. It's rather humbling for a senior like me."
Sol gave Loki a disdainful look and clarified, "Even within the same level, there are many subcategories. If we were to duel, I doubt I could last even a minute against him."
Harry listened in awe, a mixture of admiration and doubt clouding his thoughts. Loki and Sol—both prodigies even by Hogwarts standards—are only Intermediate Mages? How long would it take me, with my average talent, to reach their level?
Hermione, meanwhile, wore a mischievous smile as she turned to a slightly annoyed Draco Malfoy. "Draco, you're aligned with the Wind faction, aren't you? What level have you reached?"
Malfoy's face darkened, and he scoffed coldly. "Instead of worrying about others' levels, you'd better focus on forming your magic strings. Without magic strings, you'll remain a mere apprentice forever."
Neville felt a chill run down his spine. While Malfoy's words were meant to irritate Hermione, they struck a nerve in him. Neville often considered the consequences of failure before attempting anything, and Malfoy's statement felt like a grim prophecy. Could someone as clumsy as him ever construct magic strings and advance to true elemental magic?
Augustus raised a hand, signaling for silence. "I understand that many of you are worried about your talent," he said, his voice steady but firm. "It's true—magic requires a certain level of aptitude. But progress and growth have always depended on something far more important: willpower."
"To construct magic strings, you need more than just an affinity for elements or a sharp sense for magic. What matters most is your ability to persist through monotony and summon the resolve to continuously engage with the elements. Some people are born with extraordinary talent and can summon many times more elements than the average person in the same amount of time. If that's not you, then make up for it with time and effort. There's an old Chinese saying: 'A thousand-mile horse cannot cover ten steps in one leap, but a slow horse, pulling steadily for ten days, can go the distance.' Effort pays off. With persistence and determination, you can achieve greatness—even miracles."
Augustus's silver eyes glimmered with satisfaction as he continued, "Willpower shapes a person's life. No matter your future achievements or where life takes you, I hope you remember this: success isn't about talent alone; it's about tenacity. Persevere, and you'll find your path to greatness."
Neville's round face slowly lit up with determination. His entire life, he had only heard others marvel at the talents of others, envying their brilliance and magical gifts. No one had ever told him that the key to success wasn't talent but an unyielding will and relentless effort. Augustus's words struck a chord deep within him. In this moment, in the Room of Requirement, Neville wasn't just learning elemental magic—he was discovering the power of resolve.
To him, Augustus's words were more than just advice; they were a beacon of hope. Even someone like him—awkward and unremarkable—could, through sheer persistence, take one step at a time toward a brighter future.
Augustus himself reflected on his past. Talent had never been his standard for evaluating people. Among his former apprentices, the most accomplished—the President of the Imperial Magic Guild and the Marshal of the Second Mage Corps—had been an average child in terms of talent. Their success came from unrelenting effort and painstaking practice. In contrast, those with exceptional talent often lacked perseverance. When hard work failed to yield instant results, they would lament their fate, wasting their potential.
Few understand that the legends etched into history were written by those with indomitable willpower. Geniuses, as dazzling as they may be, are but fleeting stars in the vast cosmos—brilliant for a moment, only to fade away.
The journey to the summit requires climbing step by step, with blood and sweat staining one's robes along the way. Among the countless stars, only a select few become the luminaries who tower over all, surveying the world from its peak.
