The air in Denmark felt heavy with the unspoken thoughts hanging between them. The daily grind of their work, the routine of life, and the constant hum of the city's pulse had somehow felt dull in comparison to the emotions that had awakened during their time in Paris.
Paris wasn't just a place on a map. It was a part of their lives which had, looking back, a greater significance than they had at the time.
Kasie sat in the quiet of their apartment, a coffee cup in hand, staring out at the view of Denmark's skyline. The city felt distant now, almost foreign to her. Paris had changed something inside of her, in ways she couldn't yet explain. They were in Paris when she didn't give much thought to the future, but now, back in Denmark, it hung over her like a black cloud.
Jake's voice broke her reverie, soft but determined. "I've been thinking about it a lot, he said, walking into the living room. His words felt heavy, as if they carried the weight of months of unspoken emotions. "Paris changed everything for me, Kasie."
She looked up at him, and her heart raced in her chest. "It changed me too," she admitted. "But we're here now. What do we do with all of that?"
Jake came closer and closer, closing the distance between the two of them to a degree that started to feel meaningful. "I think we've both been running from this, he said, his voice low and honest. "I can't imagine my life without you in it anymore. Paris wasn't just a trip. That's the beginning of something I don't want to lose", i.e.
Kasie's breath caught in her throat. She could feel the pull toward him, the magnetic connection that had always been there but had only recently started to feel real. "Are you saying…? She trailed off, unsure if she was ready to ask the question.
Jake's smile was small but certain. "What if we didn't let go of it? What if we took a trip to Paris. this time it's not business. This time, it's about us. About what we've become."
Her heart raced. The idea of returning to Paris—to the city that had seen them fight, argue, and ultimately come together—felt like the only thing that made sense. It was as if they were destined to come back, to make that one last move, to secure what they had.
"What do you mean? she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
"I want to marry you, Jake said simply, his words carrying the weight of everything he had never said before. "In Paris. Where it all began. Where we found each other."
Kasie's eyes widened. The thought of a wedding in Paris had always seemed like something out of a fairy tale, something she never imagined she'd experience. However, the more she pondered it, the more it felt right. The town was now a part of their life story and the place where they could start to write the next story.
She took a deep breath, her feelings internalizing. "Paris," she repeated softly. "I never imagined we'd be talking about this. but it feels perfect, doesn't it?
Jake nodded, his gaze unwavering. "It does."
They stood there a while in silence, the space between them now the weight of their choice. Paris had been the start of something unexpected, something neither of them had planned, and now it was the place where they would seal it. A wedding in Paris wasn't just a dream. That was their destiny, a destiny they were willing to share.
Kasie smiled, her heart full. "Then let's do it. Let's go back to Paris."
