Chapter 1 - The best of the world

The groggy voice in her head was sounding more and more pronounced as the day went.

She had been ignoring it for as long as she could, as she went about her job, thankful that it didn't require her to think as much as the other professions did.

A basic life, that is what she had. A job that paid the minimal wage, a dog that provided her company, and an apartment that she could only afford because she was not living in a big city.

A small town suited her just fine.

Everyone knew everyone, and everyone helped everyone. Sure, there were some busybodies, but they could be managed.

She thought about her sister sometimes, and her big and flashy job in the city that demaded all her time and thought, and all she could do was shudder.

That life was not for her.

She checked the next item for her neighbour standing in the small queue, smiling and making small talk.

After this, she knew she was going home to her dog and apartment and some microwaved food.

Life couldn't be better.

Obviously, this was not the opinion of this mystical being that had just greeted her as she entered her apartment.

She froze, and was now unable to run away.

'Stupid legs, what use are you if you stop working when I need you to save my life!' Her bag of cup noodles on the floor, she looked at the intruder nervously.

The illuminated silhouette had stayed still as she suffered a minor heart attack! She struggled a bit more to gain control and finally stuttered, "Wh-What do you want?"

The thing (there was no telling if it was a man or woman) kept still, the energy around pulsating before finally a deep voice reverberated, as if through the very bones of the house, "You have been chosen, child. I am here to bestow the honour upon you."

"...huh?"

"..." The being kept looking at her (atleast that is what she assumed. Remember, silhouette) as if waiting for her to fall over in gratitude.

Taking a deep breath, "Chosen for what, exactly?"

Mulling over her words, the being finally continued, "I see you have not been briefed. Worry not, this can sometimes happen.

You, little one, have been chosen as the saviour of the worlds."
