Chapter 22 - chapter 22

The harder you try not to think about it, the more it occupies your mind. Falling asleep didn't matter now—it was torment.

Qin Guanglin didn't dare to look down. He didn't even dare to move. Staring at the ceiling, he tried to think of anything interesting to distract himself. Instead, his thoughts betrayed him—soft lips, elastic curves, fingers slick with saliva. His face flushed deeper as he swallowed hard.

"You're not being honest," He fang suddenly said.

"What? I am being honest," Qin Guanglin replied, frustrated.

"Then why are you like this?" She shifted uncomfortably, twisting to adjust her position. "You must be thinking messy thoughts again."

"Hey… don't move!" Qin Guanglin hugged her tightly, stopping her from fidgeting.

"Hmph!" He fang twisted around and bit his arm lightly before sitting up. "I'm not staying here. I'll go check on the radish in the kitchen."

"Go, then," Qin Guanglin mumbled, lying back on the bed.

What's wrong with me? He berated himself. Why haven't I grown past this?

Needing a distraction, he grabbed his phone from the bedside table and opened Sun Wen's social feed, hoping to see photos or updates from the studio.

A while later, He fang returned, lying beside him with a teasing smile.

Qin Guanglin shifted uncomfortably under her gaze. "Why are you looking at me like that?"

She didn't answer, just kept staring.

"It's a natural reaction! You can't blame me!" he said defensively, his tone a mix of frustration and embarrassment.

"I didn't say anything," He fang replied, smiling as she scooted closer. "But it's not me who's uncomfortable."

"You're still talking about it!" Qin Guanglin turned his back, annoyed, deciding to ignore her.

"Okay, okay, I won't talk about it anymore," she said, rubbing his waist and hugging him from behind. "Is this better?"

Qin Guanglin remained silent, staring at his phone. But her wandering hand was deliberate, teasing him until he grabbed it, holding it still in his palm.

"Are you graduating at the end of June?" he asked, eager to change the subject.

"Yes. Why?"

"School's out in July, and you mentioned wanting to be a teacher. It's not easy finding a job during the summer."

"Then I won't look for one. I'll rest for two months," she said, completely at ease.

"Two months…" Qin Guanglin paused, realizing something. "Will you go home after that?"

River City wasn't far from Los Angeles, but it was still a different city. Meeting often would become inconvenient.

"Do you want me to go home?" she asked.

"Of course not…" Qin Guanglin lowered his voice, feeling selfish. Going home was normal. What reason did she have to stay? She couldn't live in the dorm after graduating.

"Why not?" she pressed.

"Because if you go home, we won't see each other as often," he admitted, the thought making him uneasy even though it was still weeks away.

"Student Qin, please rephrase." He fang leaned closer, her breath brushing his ear.

Qin Guanglin hesitated. What did she want to hear? "Because I want to see you often?" he tried.

"Try again."

"Because I… I'll miss you," he said softly, embarrassed.

"I'll miss you too," she replied cheerfully, kissing his cheek. "Super invincibly miss you."

Her hair brushed against his face, making him itch. Qin Guanglin blushed again, still unused to such open affection.

"Then you…"

"I'll visit home, but I won't stay too long because…" She trailed off, hugging him tightly.

"What if you can't find a job? You can't stay in the dorm," Qin Guanglin said, concerned.

"I'll just sleep with you," she teased.

"Don't joke about that!" he said, dissatisfied. Taking her hand, he gave it a light bite in mock frustration.

"Your saliva stinks," she teased back, rubbing her finger against his shirt.

"It doesn't," Qin Guanglin muttered. Then he thought of something. "Do you already have a plan?"

"Of course," she said, confirming his suspicion. "I'm Teacher He. Everything's under control."

"Alright," Qin Guanglin relented. "But if you run into any issues, let me know. I'll help however I can."

"Got it."

They fell into a comfortable silence, hands intertwined, enjoying the quiet moment.

After a while, Qin Guanglin checked his watch. "It's 8:30. I'll walk you back before it gets too late."

"Hold me for five more minutes," she said lazily, hugging him tighter.

Qin Guanglin didn't refuse. Five minutes turned into another five before she finally sat up. "Let's go, Student Qin."

"Okay."

He followed her out of the house but paused as the chilly night air hit him. "Wait here."

He returned with a thin coat and handed it to her. "Take this. You can take it off once you're back at school."

"Such progress! Worthy of praise." He fang touched his face with a playful grin before putting on the jacket.

They walked toward the bus stop under the bright moonlight, their shadows stretching long behind them. As they neared the streetlights, their shadows intertwined, just like their hands, swaying slightly as they walked.

He fang hummed a tune softly, the same one she often hummed while cooking. Qin Guanglin found it pleasant. "What song is that?"

"What song?" she echoed, puzzled.

"The one you just hummed. It's nice. I want to listen to it later."

"I was just humming," she replied with a shrug. Then, noticing the bus approaching, she pulled his arm. "Come on, it's here."

They boarded the bus, finding two seats together. He fang leaned her head on his shoulder, a gesture so natural it made his heart ache with sweetness.

Though still shy about such public intimacy, Qin Guanglin couldn't help but think: *It's great to be in love.*
