Chapter 2 - Words

There exists a book that contains the power of speech. In a small village, there lived 2 children, curious of all things, and there the existence of the book was made aware to them.

An old head at the town square spoke the tales of the power the book had, and there the children made it a mission to find the book in question.

Before the children could go adventure the town in search of said book, their care keeper, a woman advised them not to. One child, talkative, complaint. The other, silent, said nothing.

The sun came and went and there when the moon was in the sky. The silent child found a book. Opening it to see all but words. Not paragraphs, but simply words. Each page contained a word. A singular word. But before the child could speak a word, the caretaker found him. A woman taking the book off his hands gently.

Nighttime calls for bed, thus she took the child into slumber while she looked over the book. Opening to a random page she saw a word.

Homeless

Opening to another page she sees a singular word,

Thief

Curious as to why there exists only 1 word per page, she said a word out loud. "Homeless". She blinked and all of a sudden she wasn't at the lodge, she was in an open field. A blizzard and snow could be seen everywhere. Cold as could be, she looked around to assess the situation. Unbeknown to her, there exist and man taking shelter in the snow a crevess where heat layed to survive the cold and stormy night.

Before the blizzard got to her she looked at the book, which was still in her hands, and she said another word. "Theif"

Once more after a blink she was in a different setting, there she was in shed surrounded by men who looked to have not the best of intentions. She quickly flipped a page and said another word.

Every word in this book was negative, not a single positive word. No matter which word she spoke out, she didn't find a situation in which she could stay. Not a moment of rest, she was starving. Flipping to the next page the word, "Starving", what humor is this she said aloud.

"Starving"

Blinking once more she was in a different setting. In the woods there was a child, who looked as if it hadnt eaten anything for days, just sitting next to a tree. Lifeless. Fortunately there was no wild animals or anything that could harm her to be seen. And thus the women finally had a moment of rest and relaxation.

Feeling a bit emotional, she went up to the child and asked if he needed help. The child looked up and stared but didnt say a word. Not having the energy she stopped and sat next to a tree. Making sure to have him in eyes view. It may be a child but she came aware to the words on these pages of the book to not be a positive situation for her.

A while or so, the child spoke up. "You there, form a contract with me"

Startled she asked, "What kind of contract"

"Serve me and this word is yours"

… she didnt say a word.

"Do you not wish for power?"

Who are you to claim you can give me power?

"You know not who I am?"

No

"And yet you are here, greeting me"

I don't know how I got here OK, all I did was read this book and here I am.

"Then come closer and tell me what it is you want"

I simply want to return home

"And I can grant you that wanting of yours and more. Form a contract with me"

Why must I form a contract, are you incapable of taking me home without?

"Observe me. Am I in a state where I can do much?"

The child in question is in tattered clothing, His body thin and bones.

'If I were to accept the contract, what becomes of me?'

"You will forever be my servant and whats yours is mine"

How will the contract even help in this situation, You are all skin and bone, what is it that you can do after the contract?

"Create and find out. I assure you, you will not disappoint"

The woman opened the book, saying the word out loud, yet nothing happened for she was at the end of the book. The last word was 'Starving' and here she was. A situation that she most definitely would not be able to survive she got up and walked towards the child. 'I accept this contact' The child stood up and told her to kneel and give her a kiss.

With that, the contract had now been formed.
