Chapter 5: Stella's Devil Fruit Power – Logia-type Cloud-Cloud Fruit!
After leaving Sengoku's office, Michael and Stella made their way to the Navy's archives. Inside, Michael handed over the permission slip, and the librarian brought out the Navy's Devil Fruit Encyclopedia, a large, heavily guarded book.
"You have thirty minutes to review the Devil Fruit Encyclopedia," the librarian said, placing it before them.
Michael guided Stella to a quiet corner, where they opened the book to the first page, marked by the iconic image of the Devil Fruit Tree. Stella placed her bag on the table and carefully removed the three Devil Fruits they had confiscated from the traffickers.
"Let's see what we have here…"
The first Devil Fruit was a purple fruit shaped like a pear with spiral patterns. After a quick search, they identified it as the Sound-Sound Fruit, a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that granted the user the power to generate and control sound waves.
The second was a gray, rodent-like fruit. After cross-referencing it, Michael identified it as the Rat-Rat Fruit, a Zoan-type Devil Fruit that allowed the user to transform into a rat.
Michael then turned his attention to the third fruit, which had an unusual appearance resembling a cloud-covered melon. Despite searching the book, he couldn't find any matching description for this fruit.
Michael examined it closely. Its appearance resembled a Logia-type fruit, given the "elemental" features, but without confirmation, he was unsure.
"Stella," he asked, "which one would you like to choose? The Sound-Sound Fruit or this unknown one that seems to be a Logia-type?"
Stella looked at the fruits thoughtfully before responding, "You should choose first, Michael. I'll take whichever one you leave behind."
Michael laughed, shaking his head. "I already have a Devil Fruit ability. You can't eat two, or you'll…" He made an exploding gesture, hinting at the fatal result.
Stella blushed slightly, realizing her mistake. Then, after a moment's thought, she decided to take the unknown fruit.
"Sometimes, life is all about taking risks, isn't it?" she said with a determined smile, biting into the fruit before Michael could stop her.
Immediately, she gagged. "This… this is the worst thing I've ever tasted!"
"Haha, I forgot to warn you about that. Yeah, Devil Fruits taste terrible." Michael couldn't help but laugh, although he'd neglected to mention that she only needed to take one bite.
As she finished the fruit, Stella's mind suddenly filled with knowledge about her new powers. "Michael, we made the right choice! This is the Cloud-Cloud Fruit, a Logia-type Devil Fruit!"
With a look of excitement, Stella transformed into a cloud-like form, her body becoming a misty, white substance that floated around Michael. The Cloud-Cloud Fruit was indeed a powerful ability, capable of controlling clouds, creating rain, and even generating lightning, similar to the combined powers of the Ice-Ice and Rumble-Rumble Fruits but at a slightly lower level.
Michael marveled at her transformation. "The traffickers really struck it lucky with this one. They had no idea they were carrying a Logia-type fruit."
However, Stella soon asked, "Does this power come with any drawbacks?"
Michael explained, "Yes. Those who eat Devil Fruits lose the ability to swim, and they weaken if they come into direct contact with seawater."
Stella thought for a moment before shrugging. "Well, that's fine. I was never much of a swimmer anyway."
Michael sighed, amused by her nonchalant response.
---
After leaving the archives, Michael guided Stella back to the house where he'd been staying whenever he visited Marineford. Technically, it was Sengoku's residence, where Michael had stayed during his early days in the Navy.
As they approached the familiar two-story house, memories flooded back. Michael had spent three relaxed years here, a period that had likely been his most peaceful.
The door swung open, and a sleepy-looking young man leaned out the second-floor window. His eyes went wide as he recognized Michael.
"Michael! Is that really you?" he shouted, nearly tumbling from the window in his excitement.
"Rosinante, long time no see." Michael grinned, reaching up to pat the young man on the shoulder, only to find that Rosinante had grown significantly taller. "You're taller than I remember. Have you been eating steel?"
Rosinante, clearly delighted, hoisted Michael into a bear hug. "I thought you wouldn't come back until your next promotion!"
"Well, here I am."
"Welcome home!"
In that moment, Michael felt his worries dissolve, replaced by a sense of belonging.
"Yes, I'm home."
