"They look like broken fingers."
Ginny stayed silent.
"The way they're all crooked, yknow?"
Micah pointed up from where he laid in the damp leaves to the black and bare tree limbs, kinked and jagged; reaching toward the twilight purple of the cold October sky.
Ginny stayed still..
"I'm getting cold Ginny I wanna go home."
The 5 year-old rolled over and snuggled up to his big sister. She'd been cold for hours. Staring up into the sky. Unblinking, unwavering.
The wind blew, and a torrent of leaves blanketed the pair. Micah sheilded his face in the barrier of Ginny's arm.
The winds passed and Micah emerged once again. It had been a long day. First, Ginny and Taylor took a walk in the Bexley Forest. Micah was mad about that. He wasn't invited, but he tagged along anyway.
'Then they met that man.'
Micah knew that grown-ups knew each other. He'd probably be in big trouble if he went home and the man told his mommy that he followed the big kids into the woods.
"You're not supposed to be here."
'He pulled out a big knife and Ginny told me to go hide. I heard yelling and when I came back, Sissy was laying down looking at the sky and Taylor was crying somewhere far away. She must've been in trouble now. Sissy isn't though; shes watching the sky.'
Micah looked at Ginny's face. Cold and still. Her coat and neck were cold with 'booboo'
Little Micah dusted the leaves off Ginny and stood up. The forest looked a lot bigger and scarier now that it was night-time.
"I'm going to go see if Taylor is still here. I'm hungry."
Micah took a step toward the darkness.
"Hhuhhh"
Hearing the moan come from his big sister scared Micah to his core. But it was Ginny so he came running back.
"Are you done looking at the sky? Can we go home sissy?"
Ginny didn't blink. The 12 year old weakly fingered at her coat pocket.
Micah watched for a moment and then reached inside, finding her phone.
Ginny's breathing died out and she was still again.
"I guess you're not done."
Micah hit the button to light up the phone. The screen presented a lock and an emergency call button on the bottom of the pin pad.
Staring a moment, Micah sighed and tossed the phone into the leaves.
'It's locked in can't watch videos.'
The wind picked up again and Micah curled into Ginny's arm once more. She seemed even colder now.
The temperature dropped even further as the next hour ticked by, and before Micah knew it.. he had fallen asleep.. while Ginny watched the sky..
