Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: The Transformation of a Wandering Spirit

In a blessed and serene place,

where dreams weave softly in the breeze,

lives a heart, marked by time's embrace,

with sorrows that have made it vast and free.

Blessed was the day it faced deep pain,

when life revealed its harsh refrain.

Through misfortunes, its soul grew strong,

finding a new dawn where shadows belong.

Blessed is the one who keeps on walking,

with hope shining, ever undaunting.

In adversity, their faith holds tight,

a beacon of warmth in the endless night.

In their path, life interweaves,

blessed is the soul that, through grief,

has found beauty in pain and grace,

and in their spirit, the purest strength.

I can't quite remember what happened. I feel nothing, none of my senses are working. It's strange, like I'm just a consciousness, only comparable to sleep paralysis. I know I'm awake, but is this what it means to be awake? I see nothing, and I can't even feel that I'm moving any part of my body. All I know is that something's here—or at least I think so. For now, I'll just try to remember the last thing I did.

I was coming back from university, said goodbye to my friends, and took the bus with two of them. They got off before me. When I got off, I headed down to the subway to get home. Wait—yes, I made it home. I greeted my brother's puppy, said I was back, and saw my sister-in-law in the kitchen. She asked if I wanted dinner so she could heat it up. I went upstairs to leave my things, finished dinner, took a shower, felt really tired, looked over what I had due for the next day, and decided to sleep. And then... I just woke up, or so I think.

At least ten hours have passed since I started counting seconds, hoping the sun would come up, but no. This is starting to scare me. What if I'm paralyzed? It can't be. I want to believe that I haven't lost all sense of smell or touch. You'd expect me to be hysterical considering my situation, but I just... feel nothing.

Now, the question is: what's my current situation? I've only come up with two possibilities. First, maybe I died somehow and haven't found peace, or something like that. The second is that this is just a major time perception issue on my part. But that's hard to believe since, at least in sleep paralysis, you're supposed to see or feel things. But in my case, it's nothing like that. For now, I'll keep thinking. Oddly, I don't feel any fatigue. Strange.

Two years have passed since I became—if you can call it that—a consciousness. During this time, I've realized several things. One of them is that my thinking capacity has multiplied significantly. For instance, I've developed an internal clock and calendar. It's now 8:53 AM, November, 2026. My memory is now sharper than ever; every memory is precise, like I'm there again. But there's a catch: I remember having siblings, in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends. Yet, for some reason, I don't remember my name or appearance. I know I wore glasses, earrings, and that I'm male, but that's it.

I'm tired of thinking. I feel like I've already thought up the cure for cancer or how to make fuel from seawater. I'm bored. There's no one to talk to or play with. I'd say I'm going crazy, but with no one observing me, it's hard to tell if I'm right. Out of nowhere, a memory pops up—it was one of my sisters talking to me about physics. Abruptly, it cut off, just as I heard, "Matter and energy are neither created nor destroyed; they only transform."

Suddenly, I began regaining my senses—first hearing, then sight, along with touch, smell, and taste. Yes! Finally, I'm awake—or standing, it doesn't matter.

I expected to see a hospital room or my bedroom, but I was shocked to find myself surrounded by a horde of beasts. The bigger shock came when I realized I was a baby again. I had small, light-pink hands and a blue blanket over me. I tried to cry out for help, but, naturally, only a cry came out, which drew the monsters' attention to me. I could only cry; my arms and legs weren't strong enough to move. I had no weapons, not even teeth to bite or nails to scratch.

At that moment, all I could think was, "Just my luck. I finally recover my senses, and they're going to take them away again." Then, I remembered a friend's words when his luck went from bad to worse: "Who did I offend?" As the leader—or alpha—of the beasts approached, I could only make out a humanoid shape. When it got closer, I saw a dragon-like head with ruby-red eyes and emerald-colored horns. I cursed in my mind, thinking, "This is it. Damn it." The creature came closer, and then... picked me up? Wait, wasn't it a reptilian creature? Suddenly, with its left hand, it touched me, removing what I realized was a dragon mask from its face. And wow, the woman beneath was stunning, with black hair with purple tones, intense violet eyes with a mole below her left eye, pink lips, and pointed ears. Well, whatever—did she save me? Right.

She began to speak, or at least I think she did. Her language reminded me of a mix of English, Spanish, and some sounds I'd heard in Japanese.

Honestly, I didn't understand a thing, but at least I'd be safe—for now. She carried me and took me to her home.
