Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: The Echoes of His Past Yearnings

She was dressed lightly, wearing a spaghetti strap dress that left her beautiful back and fair thighs exposed. The thin fabric seemed unable to contain her graceful figure in the summer heat.

Perhaps sensing the sound of the door shifting, he suddenly lifted her and headed toward the master bedroom. By the time he opened the door, it had already been firmly closed.

As Julian Bai stepped out of the bedroom, Ross Mo leaned casually against one side of the door, his gaze sweeping over him like a searchlight, from head to toe. Had they just been flirting inside?

"Let's go to the study," Julian Bai said nonchalantly as he walked toward that direction, appearing completely unfazed by what had just transpired with Grace Gu. His demeanor was so formal it was almost astonishing.

Ross Mo followed him with a somewhat stern expression. Once they reached the study and saw Julian Bai sitting there in silence, he pondered his words for a moment before speaking up: "Elder brother, you should know the rules of the Bai family. She isn't suitable."

Julian Bai's deep-set eyes held an unfathomable depth. Even though Ross Mo had grown up alongside him—sharing everything from childhood mischief to life-threatening experiences—he still couldn't see through his true thoughts at this moment.

"She's just a woman; you're overthinking it." He lit a cigar in his hand, leaning back comfortably as he spoke dismissively.

Although Ross Mo hadn't finished his previous thought, he understood well enough what lay beneath those words. The Bai family had treated her decently; even if their mother didn't particularly like her, she never made things difficult for her publicly. Yet because of her status as an adopted daughter, they faced unanimous opposition from within their clan.

Who was Grace Gu? Just a plaything he had bought back then; now everyone in their family knew about it but deemed it unnecessary to act on it since she didn't measure up to someone else in their eyes—not worth their effort at all.

He knew who he was; no one understood better than Old Master Bai how much leeway he allowed himself now—it was merely compensation for past grievances. In his heart, he felt like a runaway horse destined to return home eventually.

Hearing such words from him caused Ross Mo's gaze to sharpen slightly. Was it really as simple as that? Then what did I witness earlier?

Julian Bai's profound eyes flickered again as he asked: "When we return to Huadu this time, bring her along."

"Don't you need her?"

"You've been thinking about her for so many years; she finally seems inclined towards you now. Are you not going to seize this opportunity? That would be quite unfortunate!"

His tone carried both surprise and skepticism—after all, this man before him had done foolish things for that woman before; would he truly let go of something so enticing?

"Did you hear what I just said?"

"Are you really asking me to take her back?" Ross Mo confirmed again incredulously.

Before waiting for an answer, he continued: "I think she's old enough now and wants some stability in life. You should let go! Otherwise, when regret hits later on—you know how stubborn she can be; there won't be any way back!"

"She never gave me any chance!"

Julian Bai rubbed his thumb over the large emerald ring on his finger with evident bitterness.

Ross Mo raised an eyebrow slightly—was this petty man seeking revenge?
