Chapter 16: Desperate Escape
Troy's POV
I wrenched free from Azazela's minions, determination fueling my strength. Johanna's lifeless body hung before me, the Light of Elyria flickering.
No. Not now. Not ever.
I scooped Johanna into my arms, cradling her against my chest.
"Johanna, hold on. I've got you."
Azazela's cackle echoed.
"Foolish mortal. You'll never escape."
I sprinted through the lair, dodging dark energy blasts. Johanna's weight felt heavy, but my resolve drove me forward.
We burst into the night air, Castrum's ruins stretching before us.
Johanna's POV
I drifted, consciousness wavering. Troy's warmth enveloped me, his heartbeat steady against my ear.
"Troy..." I whispered.
"Shh, Johanna. You're safe now."
The Light of Elyria stirred within me, responding to Troy's presence.
Azazela's dark magic receded, its hold on me weakening.
My strength returned, slowly.
"Troy...I can feel it. The Light..."
Troy's eyes locked onto mine.
"Johanna, you're coming back."
Azazela's POV
Fury boiled within me.
No. They cannot escape.
I summoned the Carnifex, their roar thundering through Castrum.
Troy and Johanna fled, but I'd hunt them.
The chase began.
