Why evacuate?
The reason for this didn't need to be explained. After all, there weren't any fools among these four.
Team Haori's mission was to infiltrate, search, and investigate. Killing the enemy wasn't part of the mission. They needed to avoid direct confrontation with the enemy as much as possible.
"Kurenai," Haori looked at Kurenai, who was the least injured, and said, "We need to evacuate from here as soon as possible, taking advantage of the downpour's cover. The weather is very favorable, but we can't let our guard down. You stay at the back of the team and clear our tracks."
No matter which direction they retreated in, the downpour would quickly erase their tracks. But to be safe, Haori still gave this order.
Yūhi Kurenai didn't hesitate. She immediately nodded and said, "Understood."
"Retreat!"
With Haori's order, the four turned and ran.
After each battle, the four members of Team Haori had suffered varying degrees of chakra depletion. Especially Haori. He was no longer suitable for consecutive battles.
Asuma led the retreat. Yamanaka Aoba followed behind with the prisoner. Then came Haori, and finally, Yūhi Kurenai, who was responsible for clearing the team's tracks.
They didn't blindly turn around and return to the Land of Fire. Instead, they continued to move along the border between the two countries.
The mission couldn't be abandoned.
But because of the commotion they had caused earlier, Team Haori could no longer follow their original route. Or rather, their original plan to quietly and quickly infiltrate the Land of Rain had been abandoned.
Although they were still in the Land of Fire, no one could be sure whether the Ame ninjas on the other side had noticed the situation here. Perhaps the enemy had already sent out reconnaissance ninjas.
For safety and to ensure that the mission could be carried out smoothly, Haori chose to extend the mission execution time. This four-person team needed to temporarily hide and lie low, then find a new opportunity to infiltrate.
Now, their first priority was to deal with the prisoner.
…
In a hidden mountain pass, at the bottom of a towering mountain, there was an inward-sloping and recessed part that blocked the downpour outside. Team Haori was temporarily hiding here.
At this time, Yūhi Kurenai was treating Asuma and Yamanaka Aoba's wounds. Whether or not they were professional medical ninjas, simple wound treatment and bandaging were basically essential skills for female ninjas like Kurenai.
Haori was thinking about how to extract information from the enemy.
"Should I undo the genjutsu?"
After finishing her work, Yūhi Kurenai asked.
This Fūma clan ninja was now tied up like a dumpling. Undoing the genjutsu wouldn't give him any chance to escape.
But although the dumpling was miserable, it was temporarily better than being grilled. After all, the cuisine and cooking methods were different.
Haori felt that there were two things he needed to figure out:
First, why did the Fūma clan ninja appear in Leaf Village territory and attack Leaf Village ninjas without hesitation? Was it for the purpose of getting a bounty?
Second, why could the enemy accurately call out his name? Who was collecting his information?
Undoing the genjutsu and then using some special play to torture this ninja?
That wasn't a good choice. It wasn't efficient, and no one could guarantee that the enemy would tell the truth.
Haori pondered for a moment before choosing not to use a brute force method. Instead, he first looked at Yamanaka Aoba.
"Aoba, can you perform memory extraction?"
From the information about the team members that the Hokage had given him, Haori already knew that Yamanaka Aoba could use a similar memory extraction ability as the Yamanaka clan. He just didn't know how far he could probe into memories.
Yamanaka Aoba pushed up the sunglasses on his eyes… Yes, this guy was wearing sunglasses even on a cloudy day.
In the Leaf Village and other ninja villages, there were indeed a few people whose bodies were actually sunglasses. The things under the sunglasses were just human-shaped eyeglass frames.
"I can try. If it hasn't been sealed, it should be no problem."
Yamanaka Aoba's tone was uncertain. He was always cautious when it came to serious matters.
But in reality, a wandering ninja like this, who wasn't from a major ninja village and wasn't in a position of responsibility, a ninja who could access highly confidential information, wouldn't have anyone deliberately setting up a brain seal to protect his memories, would they?
Haori's guess was correct. The Fūma clan ninja hadn't been subjected to this kind of protection.
"Be careful. Even if you're unsuccessful, don't turn this important source of information into an idiot." Haori said as he motioned for Yamanaka Aoba to go ahead.
Yamanaka Aoba nodded, but he didn't say anything else.
He first focused his mind, then formed a hand seal that Haori had never seen before. Then, he placed his right palm against the Fūma ninja's forehead.
Haori's reminder was still valid. The consequences of a violent mental intrusion, if you weren't careful, were much more serious than physically inserting a hard object into someone. The latter would at most cause local bleeding in certain organs and have a certain probability of inducing infectious diseases…
The former was much more serious. If the user accidentally sneezed during the process, they could completely destroy the mental state of the person they were using the jutsu on. A brand new vegetable would be born.
Haori took off his mask and watched Yamanaka Aoba's actions. He couldn't help but grin.
At this moment, he had made up his mind. He hadn't systematically learned this kind of protective seal for the brain. But when he got back, he would ask Kushina if the Uzumaki clan had any specific sealing jutsu for this situation…
If they did, he would either have Kushina add a few brain halos or learn it himself.
Just as Haori was letting his mind wander, Yamanaka Aoba spoke.
He was closing his eyes, and his palm hadn't left the enemy's head.
"I found it!"
Yamanaka Aoba's temples were sweating, and his tone was a bit fast. He probably hadn't mastered this mental perception jutsu yet.
(Shix: I've mistranslated previous chapters with Yamakage Aoba, Idk which chapters tho)
"These people are indeed from the Fūma clan…"
"A week ago, they received a mission from Ame at the exchange. They infiltrated the Land of Fire to assassinate Leaf Village ninjas for a bounty. But the first people they encountered were our team…"
"So, that's how it is," Haori muttered.
But Yamanaka Aoba hadn't finished speaking.
"There's also important information. An unknown person or force at the exchange posted a high bounty on the captain. They verified and released some of your information…"
"…"
Hearing this, Haori's expression changed slightly.
