Chapter 84 - MSIN: Chapter 82

---

"Hokage-sama, are you kidding me?" Haori looked at the Third Hokage with a rather strange expression.

"I'm just messing with you."

Unfortunately, the Third Hokage couldn't say that. He didn't have the time to mess with his ninjas.

Half an hour ago, Haori was practicing chakra nature transformations when he received a summons from the Hokage.

Five minutes ago, the Hokage explained why he had called him over.

Now, Haori felt confused. This was mainly related to his next mission.

"Haori, are your injuries all healed now?"

The Third Hokage asked this as soon as Haori arrived.

"I've completely recovered," Haori said.

The Hokage asking about his physical condition couldn't be just out of concern for him. In fact, the meaning of this sentence was: Can you start carrying out missions again?

Before Haori returned to the Leaf Village, his injuries had actually already completely healed. He didn't need to return to the village. After all, a ninja like him, who could "burst out with strength," was best to be on the frontline during wartime…

But there was a rather obvious problem. Haori didn't belong to any team. Considering the efficiency of team activities and Haori's lack of personal ability, he had temporarily returned to the Leaf Village.

He would be redeployed to the frontline after a new team was formed.

The Hokage took a puff of his pipe before nodding and continuing, "That's good. I have a new mission for you… I intend to form a new team with you at the core, and then you'll go on a new mission."

What did it mean to form a team with him at the core? It was quite simple. He would be given command of a ninja team. In other words, Haori would become the captain of a four-person team.

Haori had no objections to the Hokage's mission.

In fact, ninjas generally didn't have the right to refuse missions assigned by the Hokage. During peacetime, ninjas might have some choices. But during wartime, the Hokage's orders were absolute and unquestionable.

For example, if the Hokage suddenly felt like it and ordered Haori and his new team to infiltrate the Raikage's office in Kumo and steal the Land of Lightning's defense map, even though they knew it was a death sentence and the mission's success rate was zero, they would still have to go—if Haori didn't want to abandon the Leaf Village.

But the information conveyed in the Hokage's words was quite rich.

Since this team was to be led by Haori, a Chunin, it was clear: There wouldn't be any Jonin in the new team.

A Chunin commanding Jonin, this was basically unheard of, unless this Chunin's tactical thinking and intelligence were like Shikamaru's.

In other words, this new team, including Haori, was entirely composed of Chunin and Genin. Judging from their overall strength, the Hokage wouldn't send them on any super-difficult missions.

All sorts of thoughts ran through Haori's mind, but he immediately agreed to the Hokage's order.

Seeing Haori nod, the Hokage handed him a file.

No need to ask, this was the information about the members of the new team.

Given the importance of forming a team, the Hokage didn't need to get involved at all. But because of Haori and a certain member of the team's identities, he still called Haori over and personally explained the matter.

After taking the file, Haori immediately opened it. He was also curious to see who the team members were.

"Ninja registration number: 010886

Name: Yamakage Aoba

Rank: Chunin

Mission Experience: D-rank 34 times, C-rank 22 times, B-rank 14 times, A-rank 0 times, S-rank 0 times

Abilities and Strengths: Genjutsu, Taijutsu, Summoning

…"

This was the first one. Next was the second:

"Ninja registration number: 010829

Name: Sarutobi Asuma

Rank: Chunin

Mission Experience: D-rank 56 times, C-rank 20 times, B-rank 18 times, A-rank 1 time, S-rank 0 times

Abilities and Strengths: Ninjutsu, Taijutsu

…"

Then there was the third one:

"Ninja registration number: 010881

Name: Yūhi Kurenai

Rank: Genin

Mission Experience: D-rank 28 times, C-rank 22 times, B-rank 10 times, A-rank 0 times, S-rank 0 times.

Abilities and Strengths: Genjutsu

…"

Each ninja's information was quite thick. The beginning was a simple introduction, followed by a description of these three ninjas' performance in various missions and a detailed explanation of their abilities.

These three people were Haori's classmates. Asuma and Kurenai were even in the same class as him. In other words, this team was entirely composed of rookies.

Of course, in terms of the number of missions, they weren't entirely rookies. After all, they had graduated first and were already on the battlefield when Haori was still in the Leaf Village training with Kushina.

After reading this information, Haori was a bit silent.

It wasn't because there was a ninja with the special identity of the Hokage's son. It wasn't because there weren't experienced ninjas. It wasn't because the team's overall combat power might not be enough.

It was because, looking at this personnel arrangement, Haori couldn't figure out what kind of mission this team was supposed to carry out.

Based on the information in the file, combined with Haori's own understanding of them, one thing could be determined: Haori himself and Sarutobi Asuma were ninjutsu-type ninjas, or they could also be considered comprehensive strength-type ninjas.

Then, adding Yamakage Aoba and Yūhi Kurenai, two genjutsu-type ninjas… what was this team going to do? They weren't specialized in anything, were they?

"Hokage-sama, what's our mission?"

Haori immediately asked this question.

The Third Hokage didn't answer Haori's question directly. He first moved the documents on his desk, then took out and unfolded a map of the Shinobi World.

After Haori walked over, he pointed to an area on the map and said,

"We've already ended the war with the Land of Wind. We can say that the western border of the Land of Fire is stabilizing. So, we won't be deploying a large number of ninjas on this border in the future."

"As for the Land of Earth to the northwest, it's our main enemy in the next stage. Considering factors like transportation and supplies, if they launch a war, they will generally invade from the Land of Grass or the Land of Waterfall. So, we will focus our defenses in this direction."

The Hokage pointed to the map as he spoke.

"But between these two defensive areas of different importance, we have a gap in our forces."

Before the Hokage could finish speaking, Haori blurted out the answer, "The Land of Rain…"

"Correct," the Hokage glanced at Haori, then continued, "The Land of Rain was very active at the beginning of the war. But they are ultimately a limited country. After retreating twice, they haven't made any major moves. Before the war with Suna ended, we were able to keep Rain from acting rashly with the double pressure from the Suna frontline and the Iwa frontline. They were worried that the forces on the Suna frontline had been withdrawn…"

"We judge that although Rain will be unable to launch a large-scale offensive in the future, considering their actions during the signing of the peace treaty, they might make some special moves next. So, we must strengthen our monitoring and reconnaissance of the Land of Rain."

"But with our current strength, we don't have the extra energy to set up a separate defense line to defend the Land of Rain. If they launch a large-scale offensive, we will draw forces from the Iwa defense line to defend against them."

"But before that kind of offensive, all we can do is strengthen our reconnaissance of the border between the Land of Rain and the Land of Fire. So, for a short time, we will deploy about 20 to 40 reconnaissance teams on the border between the two countries…"

The border between the Land of Rain and the Land of Fire wasn't very long. If it was just reconnaissance, it was simpler than the Land of Wind. This number of ninjas would be enough.

"And you guys are one of them…"

So, Haori's new team's mission was reconnaissance and monitoring.

So, Haori was shocked.

Shiraishi Haori, Sarutobi Asuma, Yamakage Aoba, Yūhi Kurenai…

There wasn't a single reconnaissance ninja in this team, was there?

This team was clearly a hodgepodge. Because of the constant casualties, there weren't that many properly equipped teams during this period.

The Hokage wanted to send a bunch of Hyuga to carry out reconnaissance missions, but was that possible?
