Chapter 6: Meditation Techniques and the Panel
Leon Grant couldn't contain his excitement any longer. He almost felt like laughing aloud, but being in the Arcane Realm, he had to keep himself composed.
Just then, his head throbbed with a sharp pain, and a virtual panel appeared before him.
"What's this?" Leon gasped, startled by the sudden appearance of the screen.
He shifted his gaze and scrutinized it closely.
Name: Leon Grant
Bloodline: Human
Strength: 1.3
Constitution: 1.1
Agility: 1.1
Mental Power: 2.1
Skills: None
Potential Points: 0
What was this? Was it related to his physical attributes?
Leon stared at the semi-transparent panel, feeling confused. If this panel was always visible, it would make daily life and combat inconvenient. He thought for a moment, wishing it could be retracted. Just as he wished, the panel shrank and disappeared.
Wait…?
"Come back."
He thought silently, and the panel reappeared before him.
This was interesting. Although he didn't know how this panel came to be, having such a data display would be useful for his future training. It would allow him to track his progress.
Strength, Agility, and Constitution—each of these was just slightly above 1.0, which was normal for a human. It seemed like the enhancements came as a result of his successful Arcane Awakening.
But what was this "Potential Points" for? Leon had no idea.
His mental power was the highest at 2.1. It seemed like, once he returned, he could train to become a spellcaster.
Thinking this, Leon grinned. He then grabbed his fire axe and opened the door of his apartment, cautiously inspecting the room and even checking the building's hallways to ensure no dangers had crept in while he was unconscious. After finding nothing suspicious, he finally relaxed.
Leaning against his backpack, Leon took out some compressed rations and sliced off a portion with his knife, quietly chewing on the dry food.
As he ate, he focused on the Beacon in his mind, trying to gauge how much energy it had stored up.
When he focused on the Beacon, however, something surprising happened. Alongside it, he sensed the presence of a book.
Blessing from the Arcane Realm!
Some lucky individuals who successfully awaken in the Arcane Realm are granted a blessing by the realm's will. Some receive rare, high-level resources, while others are bestowed with legacies or inheritance. The majority of the current training methods on Earth were developed by these fortunate few.
Could it be that Leon was one of those lucky ones?
His heart raced with excitement as he reached out mentally and touched the book.
Snap!
The book materialized in front of him, hovering in mid-air.
Leon stared at the floating book in astonishment. This must be a type of magical inheritance.
Blessings from the Arcane Realm were usually tailored to match an individual's abilities. Leon felt that, with this inheritance, his path would become clearer.
He reached out to take the book, and the title appeared clearly before him:
The Arcane Grimoire of Alrik.
This was a grimoire from a magician named Alrik. From what Leon knew, the Arcane Realm's blessings typically involved either a weapon or armor for warriors and knights, while mages usually received spellbooks or notes.
Considering that this was a grimoire, Leon felt hopeful. A grimoire was an essential tool for a mage, containing not only spells but wisdom accumulated throughout a lifetime of magical research.
Leon eagerly flipped open the book, hoping to find something impressive. The first page was dense with characters, which made his head ache just looking at it. But thanks to the assistance of the Arcane Realm, he understood these characters instantly.
The Breath of Darkness.
A meditation technique for mages, this was the method Alrik himself had practiced. It seemed to be aligned with dark magic. Leon couldn't help but feel a little disappointed. He had imagined himself as a cheerful, optimistic young man, and now he was faced with something dark in nature.
His frown deepened, but he decided to keep reading.
The rest of the book detailed several spells. Leon was relieved to see that although the first meditation technique leaned towards darkness, the spells were varied, covering all kinds of magical capabilities.
The first spell listed was a Level 0 spell: Grim Mist.
Level 0 spells were often called "cantrips"—weak spells that had little power. The Grim Mist spell created a small fog that obscured vision. Though the fog had no offensive power, it was useful for hiding or confusing enemies.
Despite its weak nature, the spell took up three pages in the book: one for the runes, one for casting techniques, and the third for Alrik's analysis and annotations.
Leon felt a little disheartened, wondering if the book contained more spells like this. However, when he flipped through, he found another Level 0 spell:
White Fang of Bone
Spell Ability: Create a bone fang from magic and shoot it at an enemy, with a range determined by the caster's mental power (range = mental power x 25 meters).
This spell had offensive potential, unlike the first one. Leon noted it as something to learn later.
The third spell was:
Tired Touch
Spell Ability: Summon a spectral tendril that induces fatigue in the target until the spell ends.
This was a debilitating spell that weakened enemies by sapping their energy. Leon made a mental note of its potential.
He continued flipping through the book but found that the pages seemed to stop moving. He realized that with his current strength, he could only study the meditation method and these basic spells for now. The more advanced content would have to wait until his abilities had improved.
Seeing this, Leon turned back to the first page and focused on The Breath of Darkness.
After reading carefully, he realized the meditation method was of Golden rank, an extremely rare and powerful technique. In the world of Arcane Realm blessings, the techniques and legacies granted were typically of Black Iron or Silver rank. Golden rank techniques, however, were extraordinarily rare and valuable. Most of the world's strongest individuals only dreamed of obtaining such powerful legacies.
Leon's excitement grew as he realized the potential of this technique. Golden rank—this was a treasure! He no longer cared about the "dark" aspect of the spell. Golden rank was all that mattered.
With renewed determination, Leon made up his mind: this path was his, and he would walk it, no matter the darkness. Golden rank inheritance? He could hardly wait to begin!
