Chapter 82 - Chapter 82: Pokémon Day at the Liyue Harbor

The morning sun broke through the clouds over Liyue Harbor, casting a warm golden glow over the bustling marketplace. Today was a special day: Pokémon Day in Liyue. The event had been organized by the Ministry of Civil Affairs, with the goal of bringing people and Pokémon closer together and celebrating their bond. Lanterns were strung between stalls, and the harbor was filled with laughter, chatter, and the excited cries of Pokémon.

Lumine and Paimon made their way towards the main square, their Pokémon—Pikachu and Oddish—close by. Pikachu's ears twitched, and its eyes gleamed with curiosity, while Oddish toddled along, peering up at the various decorations hanging overhead.

"Look, Lumine! The decorations are so pretty!" Paimon exclaimed, her voice full of excitement. "And do you smell that? Someone's cooking something with berries! Paimon bets it's delicious!"

Lumine smiled, looking around at the bustling stalls. "It's nice to see everyone enjoying themselves. I wonder what kind of events they have planned for today."

They passed a stall where Ningguang was talking to a group of children, her Rotom zipping back and forth, its electric energy making the lanterns glow even brighter. Ningguang noticed Lumine and Paimon approaching and waved them over.

"Lumine, Paimon, good morning. It's a pleasure to see you here," Ningguang said with a warm smile. She gestured at the jewelry stall next to her, where Rotom was demonstrating its ability to light up the crystals. "We're celebrating the bonds between Liyue and Pokémon today. I thought I'd bring some of my creations to showcase how Pokémon can inspire our crafts."

Paimon's eyes widened as she saw a necklace adorned with a brilliant blue gem. "Wow, Ningguang! Is that inspired by a Water Stone?"

Ningguang nodded, a satisfied smile on her face. "Exactly. I've found that incorporating Pokémon elements into my designs has resonated well with people. Pokémon have brought something truly special to Liyue."

As Lumine admired the jewelry, a commotion suddenly erupted from nearby. They turned to see Hu Tao dashing across the square, her Shuppet floating after her with an excited gleam in its eyes. Hu Tao skidded to a stop right in front of Lumine, catching her breath, her eyes wide with delight.

"Lumine! You've got to see this!" Hu Tao exclaimed. "We've set up a special obstacle course for Pokémon in the harbor, and it's going to be hilarious! Come on!"

Paimon's eyes lit up at the mention of an obstacle course. "Obstacle course?! Paimon's all in for that! Come on, Lumine, let's go!"

Hu Tao led them through the crowd, bringing them to an area that had been set up with an elaborate obstacle course. There were jumps, tunnels, balance beams, and even a section where Pokémon had to navigate over a series of floating platforms in the water. Chongyun and Xiangling were already there, each preparing their Pokémon for the challenge. Chongyun's Duskull floated beside him, looking a bit apprehensive, while Xiangling's Poliwag was bouncing in excitement.

"Hey, Lumine!" Xiangling called out, waving at them. "Are you going to join in? We're just about to start!"

Pikachu immediately perked up, giving an enthusiastic "Pika!" Oddish looked at Lumine, its eyes wide with curiosity. Lumine smiled at her Pokémon. "What do you think, Oddish? Want to give it a try?" Oddish nodded, though it seemed a bit nervous.

The first round began, and it quickly turned into a chaotic but entertaining spectacle. Pikachu darted through the course, leaping over the obstacles with ease, while Poliwag splashed its way across the floating platforms, sending water flying in all directions. Duskull, on the other hand, was a bit hesitant at first, especially at the water section, but with Chongyun's encouragement, it managed to float across, earning applause from the spectators.

"Come on, Duskull! You can do it!" Chongyun called, clapping his hands. His usually stoic demeanor had softened, a smile playing at his lips as he encouraged his Pokémon.

Meanwhile, Hu Tao's Shuppet seemed more interested in phasing through the obstacles rather than actually completing them, which made Hu Tao laugh loudly. "Shuppet, you're supposed to go over the hurdles, not phase through them! But I guess that's one way to do it!"

Paimon was on the sidelines, cheering for Oddish, who had stopped at the flower bed section of the course to sniff at the flowers. "Oddish! This isn't the time to stop and smell the roses! Come on, you can do it!"

Eventually, Pikachu managed to finish the course first, with Poliwag not far behind. Oddish toddled through the final hurdle, earning cheers from the crowd, while Shuppet phased out one last time, appearing directly at the finish line, clearly pleased with itself.

Hu Tao gave Shuppet a playful poke. "Alright, alright, you win in the creativity department, that's for sure."

As the obstacle course wrapped up, Zhongli appeared, Slowpoke trailing lazily behind him. He watched the proceedings with a calm smile, clearly amused by the antics. "It seems everyone is having a great deal of fun today," he commented, nodding at Lumine and the others.

"Zhongli!" Paimon said, floating up to greet him. "You missed it! Shuppet was phasing through everything, and Oddish almost turned the obstacle course into a flower-arranging session!"

Zhongli chuckled softly, his gaze gentle as he looked at the Pokémon. "It's heartening to see how well everyone is bonding with their Pokémon. They bring a certain joy that cannot be replicated."

The group moved on to a different section of the harbor, where a small arena had been set up for friendly battles. Keqing was standing near the entrance, her Shinx beside her, the Electric-type's fur bristling with energy. Beidou was already there, her Mareep standing beside her, looking ready to compete.

"Lumine! Are you joining the battles too?" Keqing called over, her eyes glinting with excitement. "Shinx is ready to show what it can do."

Lumine smiled, nodding. "Sure, we're up for a challenge." She looked at Pikachu, who gave an eager "Pika-pi!"

The first match was between Keqing and Beidou. Shinx and Mareep faced off, sparks flying as they eyed each other. Keqing called out the first move. "Shinx, use Spark!"

Shinx dashed forward, electricity crackling around its body as it charged towards Mareep. Beidou grinned, unfazed. "Mareep, counter with Thunder Wave!"

The resulting clash of electricity filled the arena with flashes of light, the crowd cheering at the spectacle. Shinx and Mareep seemed evenly matched, each pushing the other to their limits, but ultimately, Mareep managed to outmaneuver Shinx, landing a gentle but effective Tackle that ended the match.

"Good job, Shinx," Keqing said, kneeling down to pet her partner. "We'll keep training and get stronger together."

Beidou laughed, giving Mareep a proud pat. "Great work, Mareep! You've come a long way."

Next up was Lumine versus Chongyun. Pikachu faced off against Duskull, the two Pokémon eyeing each other with determination. Paimon floated above them, acting as the self-appointed commentator.

"Alright, everyone! It's Pikachu versus Duskull! Who's going to come out on top?!" Paimon's voice rang out, earning cheers from the crowd.

Lumine started things off. "Pikachu, use Quick Attack!"

Pikachu shot forward like a blur, aiming straight for Duskull. Chongyun responded calmly. "Duskull, phase out and counter with Night Shade."

Duskull vanished just as Pikachu was about to make contact, reappearing behind it and releasing a dark beam of energy. Pikachu managed to dodge at the last second, the two Pokémon moving swiftly across the arena, their trainers calling out commands as the crowd watched in awe.

The battle ended in a draw, with both Pikachu and Duskull panting but clearly enjoying the challenge. Chongyun walked over to Duskull, giving it an encouraging nod. "Well done, Duskull. You fought well."

Lumine knelt beside Pikachu, smiling as she patted its head. "You did great, Pikachu. I'm proud of you."

As the sun began to set, the crowd gathered around the main square once more. Lanterns were lit, their soft glow filling the harbor with a warm light as Ningguang stepped forward to make an announcement.

"Thank you all for joining us for Pokémon Day here in Liyue," Ningguang began, her voice carrying across the square. "Today has shown us just how much Pokémon have become a part of our lives. Let us continue to nurture these bonds, grow alongside our partners, and cherish the joy they bring."

The crowd erupted into cheers, and Ningguang smiled before stepping back. A soft melody began to play as musicians took their places, the soothing music blending with the gentle lapping of the harbor waves.

Lumine, Paimon, and their friends gathered near the edge of the harbor, their Pokémon resting beside them. Pikachu was curled up next to Oddish, while Duskull floated lazily above Chongyun, and Shuppet playfully nudged Hu Tao.

Xiangling clapped her hands together, her eyes shining. "That was such a great day! We should definitely do this again. Maybe next time, Poliwag can actually win the obstacle course!"

Chongyun nodded, a rare smile on his face. "It was fun. Duskull enjoyed it, and I think it helped build our bond."

Hu Tao grinned, looking at Lumine. "You know, Lumine, I think we've all learned something today. Whether it's phasing through obstacles or stopping to smell the flowers, there's no wrong way to enjoy Pokémon Day!"

Paimon floated up, her eyes sparkling. "Paimon agrees! And next time, Paimon's sure Oddish will be the fastest Pokémon in Liyue!"

Lumine laughed, nodding. "Right, Paimon. We'll train and be ready for the next one."

As the stars began to appear in the sky, Lumine looked around at her friends, the peaceful harbor, and their Pokémon. This was what made everything worthwhile—the laughter, the bonds they shared, and the promise of more adventures to come. And no matter what lay ahead, they would face it all together, with their Pokémon by their side.
