The sun was high over Liyue, and the vibrant city was alive with activity. Pokémon could be seen all over the place, blending seamlessly with the people and the landscape. Even though it had only been a short time since they were introduced to this world, they had already become a part of daily life for many people in Liyue and Mondstadt.
Lumine and Paimon strolled through the streets of Liyue, their eyes wide as they took in the bustling markets, the laughter of children playing with Pokémon, and the occasional vendor offering berries or Pokémon-themed trinkets. Lumine had Pikachu perched comfortably on her shoulder, and Oddish toddled beside her, occasionally bumping into a passerby's leg before quickly apologizing with a small "Odd!" Paimon floated next to Lumine, her excitement evident in the way she darted about, taking in every detail.
"Wow! Look at that, Lumine!" Paimon pointed towards a vendor selling miniature plushies of Pokémon, from Galarian Zigzagoon to even Mareep. "Do you think they have one of Pikachu?"
Lumine smiled and guided Paimon over to the vendor. They were greeted warmly by a young woman who enthusiastically showed them the Pikachu plushies. Pikachu's ears perked up, its eyes sparkling as it looked at the plushie version of itself.
Paimon giggled, picking up one of the plushies. "Look, Pikachu! It's you, but fluffier!" Pikachu smiled and gave a cheerful "Pika!" as if agreeing with Paimon's assessment.
As Lumine purchased the plushie for Paimon, they heard a commotion nearby. A few people were gathered around a large open area near the docks, and they seemed to be watching something intently. Curious, Lumine and Paimon moved closer, Pikachu craning its neck to see what was going on.
They soon spotted Chongyun standing near the center of the crowd, his Duskull floating beside him. Chongyun was focused, his eyes locked on something in the distance. When Lumine and Paimon finally made it to the front of the crowd, they saw what had everyone's attention: an enormous, snake-like Pokémon, its body a brilliant green with segmented cores and hexagonal patterns, towering over the gathered crowd. Zygarde.
"Zygarde?!" Paimon gasped, her eyes widening. "What's it doing here, Lumine?! Isn't Zygarde supposed to be protecting the Pokémon ecosystem?"
Chongyun turned towards them, a small smile of recognition on his face. "Lumine, Paimon. I didn't expect to see you here. Zygarde appeared a few minutes ago. It's been watching the wild Pokémon near the docks."
Zygarde, the guardian of the ecosystem, looked every bit as formidable as Lumine remembered from her encounters in the past. The Pokémon was standing still, its eyes scanning the surrounding area as if ensuring everything was as it should be. Some children were sitting a short distance away, their eyes wide as they whispered about the "cool, giant Pokémon."
"I think Zygarde must have sensed something," Chongyun continued. "It's been really focused on the water near the docks." He pointed towards a cluster of Poliwag and Tympole playing in the shallows.
Lumine looked towards the water, her brows furrowing slightly. "Do you think something's wrong?" she asked, her eyes meeting Chongyun's.
Chongyun hesitated, glancing at Duskull, who seemed equally curious. "I don't know. Zygarde is known for protecting balance in the ecosystem. Maybe it detected something out of place."
Before Lumine could respond, they heard a familiar voice from behind them. "What's all the fuss about, eh?" It was Hu Tao, her Shuppet hovering beside her with a mischievous grin. Hu Tao moved closer, her eyes lighting up when she saw Zygarde. "Oh wow, now that's a Pokémon you don't see every day!"
Paimon nodded quickly, still a bit wide-eyed. "Yeah, and it looks like it means business!"
Hu Tao gave a thoughtful hum before glancing over at Lumine and Chongyun. "Maybe Zygarde's here to make sure all the little Pokémon aren't getting into too much trouble." She winked at Shuppet, who giggled and twirled in the air.
Lumine stepped closer to Zygarde, her voice gentle as she spoke. "Zygarde, is everything alright here?" She slowly reached for her Pokédex, scanning the large Pokémon.
Zygarde **-** Level 99 *Dragon/Ground Type*
*Guardian of the ecosystem. Maintains balance by observing and intervening where necessary.*
Zygarde glanced down at Lumine, its gaze steady but not threatening. Its body emitted a faint, green glow as if it were communicating something. Lumine took a step back, feeling a sense of calm washing over her.
"I think... it's okay," Lumine said, looking at Chongyun and Hu Tao. "Zygarde's just making sure everything's in balance. Maybe it was worried about the new Pokémon mixing in with the local environment."
Hu Tao placed her hands on her hips, nodding. "Makes sense! You know, keeping the balance and all that. Even ghosts like Shuppet need things to stay balanced." She winked at Shuppet again, who seemed to puff up proudly.
Just then, a small group of Lotad waddled towards the dockside, looking like they were ready to jump into the water and join the Poliwag. Zygarde watched them for a moment before letting out a low growl that echoed across the area. The Lotad paused, reconsidered, and instead settled down at the edge of the dock, seemingly content to just watch the others play.
Paimon let out a sigh of relief. "Wow, Zygarde sure knows how to keep everyone in line! Good thing too, we don't want any Pokémon getting hurt or causing trouble."
Lumine smiled and nodded. "That's why Zygarde is so important. It makes sure that everyone—humans and Pokémon alike—can coexist without upsetting the balance."
Chongyun watched as Zygarde slowly began to move, its massive body gliding across the ground as it turned away from the dock and headed towards the nearby hills. "It looks like it's satisfied," Chongyun said, a hint of admiration in his voice. "I think it's going to continue its patrol."
Hu Tao grinned. "Well, that was an exciting way to start the day! Who knew we'd run into such a legendary Pokémon just wandering around Liyue?"
Lumine nodded, watching Zygarde until it disappeared from view. "It's comforting, though, knowing that Zygarde is watching over Liyue. It means that the ecosystem, and the Pokémon here, are in good hands."
They lingered by the docks for a few more minutes, enjoying the peaceful atmosphere now that Zygarde had moved on. Hu Tao's Shuppet decided to play a little game with Duskull, the two ghost Pokémon phasing in and out of visibility as they tried to surprise each other.
"You know, Hu Tao," Chongyun said, turning towards her, "I think Duskull and Shuppet make a good team. They're both mischievous, but they seem to understand each other."
Hu Tao laughed, nodding. "Of course! Ghost Pokémon stick together, after all. Maybe one day we'll form a ghost-type team that'll be unbeatable!" She gave Chongyun a playful nudge, making him smile.
As they started to head back towards the center of Liyue, Paimon's stomach gave an audible growl. "Lumine, can we please get something to eat now? All this excitement has made Paimon extra hungry!"
Lumine chuckled, nodding. "Alright, let's head over to Wanmin Restaurant. I'm sure Xiangling has something delicious cooking."
They made their way to the restaurant, where they found Xiangling busy experimenting with new recipes involving Sitrus Berries. The smell of her cooking filled the air, drawing in curious customers as well as a few Pokémon who were sniffing around, hoping for a taste.
"Lumine! Paimon!" Xiangling greeted them, her face lighting up. "You're just in time! I've got a new recipe I need you to try. It's got Sitrus Berries, which I hear are great for both people and Pokémon!"
Paimon's eyes sparkled with delight. "Yes! Paimon's dreams are coming true once again!"
Xiangling led them to a table, bringing over a dish that had bright, colorful pieces of Sitrus Berries mixed with grilled vegetables and a savory sauce. Pikachu and Oddish both leaned in, their noses twitching in anticipation.
"Go ahead, dig in!" Xiangling encouraged, and Paimon wasted no time, grabbing a fork and diving right in.
"Mmm! It's so good, Xiangling!" Paimon said, her mouth full. "The berries are sweet, but the sauce makes it all blend together so perfectly!"
Lumine took a bite as well, nodding in agreement. "You've outdone yourself, Xiangling. This is amazing."
Xiangling beamed, clearly pleased. "I'm glad you like it! I've been trying to find ways to incorporate Pokémon ingredients into my cooking more. It's been a lot of trial and error, but I think I'm finally getting the hang of it."
As they ate, they were joined by Zhongli, who had been nearby and noticed them at the restaurant. Slowpoke trailed behind him, looking as relaxed as ever.
"Good afternoon, everyone," Zhongli greeted them as he sat down. "I see that Xiangling has once again blessed us with her culinary talents."
Xiangling blushed slightly. "Oh, it's nothing that special, Mr. Zhongli. Just some Sitrus Berries and a bit of inspiration."
Zhongli nodded, taking a bite of the dish. "The flavors are well balanced, much like the harmony we seek in Liyue. You've done a wonderful job, Xiangling."
As they continued their meal, the conversation turned to the Pokémon they had encountered recently, with Chongyun talking about his training with Duskull, and Hu Tao sharing a particularly funny story about Shuppet getting spooked by its own reflection.
The laughter and camaraderie made the afternoon pass by in a warm, comforting haze. And as they sat there, surrounded by friends and Pokémon, Lumine couldn't help but feel a deep sense of contentment. This was what made their journey worthwhile—the bonds they formed, the laughter they shared, and the adventures that awaited them just around the corner.
As the sun began to dip below the horizon, casting a warm glow over Liyue, Lumine knew that no matter what challenges they faced in the future, they would face them together—with their Pokémon by their side and the strength of their friendships guiding them.
