Chapter 78 - Chapter 78: A Day in Mondstadt - Pokémon Training and Festival Preparations

The city of Mondstadt was bustling with activity as the morning sun cast its warm glow over the cobblestone streets. The windmills turned lazily in the breeze, and the air was filled with the mingling scents of freshly baked bread and blooming dandelions. In the midst of all this, wild Pokémon could be seen roaming freely—Swablu nesting atop the windmill blades, Zigzagoon darting across the marketplace, and Oddish popping up in the flower beds, much to the amusement (and occasional dismay) of the townsfolk.

Hiroshi, with Zekrom by his side, walked through the city gates, looking around at the lively scene. Zekrom's dark figure towered over the other Pokémon, and the children in the market squealed in delight upon seeing him. Hiroshi waved to them, grinning as Zekrom gave a deep rumble of acknowledgment.

"Seems like Mondstadt's getting more used to Pokémon by the day, huh, Zekrom?" Hiroshi commented.

Zekrom nodded. "Indeed. Although, I still prefer Liyue's quiet... There's something about Mondstadt's energy that keeps me on edge."

Hiroshi laughed. "That's just the spirit of freedom in Mondstadt. You'll get used to it."

As they strolled further into the city, they spotted Amber, the energetic Outrider, running around with her Swablu perched on her head. She was chasing after a small group of Joltik that had found their way onto the decorations for the upcoming Windblume Festival.

"Hey, Amber!" Hiroshi called out, waving.

Amber skidded to a halt, almost tripping over herself. She looked up, her face lighting up when she saw Hiroshi. "Hiroshi! Just the person I needed!" She pointed at the Joltik, who were crawling all over the flower garlands she was trying to hang. "Can you give me a hand here? These little guys think the decorations are their playground!"

Hiroshi laughed as he approached. "Looks like you've got your hands full, Amber. Zekrom, could you give them a gentle nudge?"

Zekrom, with a flick of his tail, released a very soft static shock. The Joltik paused, shivered slightly, and then scampered off the garlands, apparently deciding it was time to find a less electrically charged play area.

"Phew! Thanks a bunch, Hiroshi and Zekrom!" Amber said, wiping her brow. Swablu chirped in agreement, fluffing up its feathers. "It's been like this all morning. I swear, these Joltik are determined to make my life difficult!"

"Maybe they just like you, Amber," Hiroshi said, grinning. "You do have a way with Pokémon."

"Yeah, well, I just wish they had a better way of showing it," Amber said with a dramatic sigh, though the smile on her face showed she wasn't really annoyed. "Hey, since you're here, do you want to help with the preparations? The Windblume Festival is coming up, and we could use all the hands we can get!"

Hiroshi nodded. "Of course! What do you need help with?"

"Great!" Amber clapped her hands. "How about helping Jean with setting up the training grounds? We're going to have some Pokémon exhibitions, and she wants everything to be perfect."

"Jean, huh?" Hiroshi said, rubbing his chin. "Alright, lead the way."

They made their way to the Knights of Favonius headquarters, where they found Jean, her Litleo sitting obediently by her side. She was busy directing a group of knights who were putting up fencing around a training area. When she saw Hiroshi and Amber approaching, she smiled warmly.

"Hiroshi, it's good to see you," Jean said. "I heard from Amber that you'd be able to lend a hand?"

"Absolutely," Hiroshi replied. "What can I do?"

Jean gestured to the training dummies that were being arranged. "We're planning a demonstration of Pokémon battles for the Windblume Festival. It's going to be a way to show everyone how Pokémon can be partners in not just everyday life, but in training and battle too. We could use your expertise in setting everything up."

"Consider it done," Hiroshi said with a nod. He looked down at Litleo, who was watching the proceedings with a focused expression. "How's Litleo's training going?"

Jean smiled fondly at her Pokémon. "Litleo has been doing well. We've been practicing Flame Charge, and I think we're almost there."

"Why don't we do a quick sparring session?" Hiroshi suggested. "Zekrom could help Litleo with speed and control."

Jean looked intrigued by the idea. "That could be very helpful. Litleo, are you up for it?"

Litleo roared enthusiastically, its eyes shining with determination. Hiroshi and Jean moved to the training area, with the knights pausing to watch. Zekrom stood opposite Litleo, his presence imposing yet calm.

"Alright, Litleo," Jean called out, "use Flame Charge!"

Litleo dashed forward, flames wrapping around its body as it charged at Zekrom. Zekrom watched, and just before Litleo could reach him, he moved swiftly to the side, dodging with ease.

"Good start, Litleo!" Hiroshi called out. "Try again, but focus on reading Zekrom's movement!"

Litleo nodded, growling as it tried again, this time adjusting its angle mid-charge. Zekrom stepped back, but Hiroshi noticed the improvement. Litleo was getting closer each time.

"Not bad at all," Zekrom said, his deep voice resonating across the field. "Keep your eyes on me, little one."

Jean watched with pride as Litleo continued its practice, determination in every move. Amber cheered from the sidelines, and even Swablu chirped in encouragement.

As the sparring session wrapped up, Jean walked over to Litleo, kneeling down to pat its head. "You did wonderfully, Litleo. I'm so proud of you."

Litleo nuzzled into her hand, purring softly. Hiroshi smiled at the sight, feeling a warmth in his chest. The bond between Jean and Litleo was growing stronger every day, and it was moments like this that made Hiroshi's mission all the more meaningful.

"Hey, Jean, do you think we could use some of the upgraded Pokédex technology here?" Hiroshi asked, pulling out the Liyue Pokédex Mark II that Ningguang had given him.

Jean raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Upgraded Pokédex?"

Hiroshi handed it to her, explaining, "Ningguang helped develop this version. It's got enhanced scanning abilities and can connect to the Pokémon Centers to provide more detailed data. It might be useful for the demonstrations during the festival."

Jean examined the device, clearly impressed. "This is incredible, Hiroshi. If we can use this to give people more insight into Pokémon training and battling, it could help them understand the partnership better."

"Exactly," Hiroshi said. "We want everyone to see that Pokémon aren't just companions—they're partners that can grow alongside us."

Amber, who had been listening intently, chimed in, "Oh, we should totally use this during the Pokémon race event too! Imagine how cool it would be to have real-time data on each Pokémon's speed and stamina!"

Jean smiled at Amber's enthusiasm. "That's a wonderful idea, Amber. Let's make it happen."

As they continued their preparations, Lisa strolled over, her Misdreavus floating beside her. She had a relaxed smile on her face, but there was a spark of curiosity in her eyes.

"Well, well, what's all this commotion about?" Lisa asked, her voice lilting with amusement. "I could hear the cheers all the way from the library."

"Hey, Lisa!" Amber greeted. "We're just setting up for the Windblume Festival. Hiroshi's helping us with the Pokémon demonstrations."

"Ah, I see," Lisa said, her eyes landing on the upgraded Pokédex in Jean's hands. "And what do we have here? A new gadget, Hiroshi?"

Hiroshi nodded, giving her a quick rundown of its features. Lisa's eyes widened slightly in surprise, and she let out an impressed whistle.

"Very impressive," she said. "With this, even the less experienced trainers can have a better understanding of their Pokémon. Knowledge truly is power."

Misdreavus floated around the Pokédex, curious about the device. It let out a playful giggle, as if it found the technology amusing.

"Would you like to help with a demonstration, Lisa?" Jean asked. "We could use Misdreavus to show some of the ghost-type moves."

Lisa smiled, her eyes twinkling mischievously. "Why, I'd be delighted, Jean. Misdreavus has been itching for some fun all morning."

As the preparations continued, Venti appeared out of nowhere, his Chatot perched on his shoulder. He had his usual carefree smile, and his lute was slung across his back.

"What's this? A gathering of all my favorite people?" Venti said, spreading his arms dramatically. "And Pokémon too, I see!"

Amber rolled her eyes, but there was affection in her voice. "Venti, don't tell me you're here to slack off while we do all the work."

"Me? Slack off?" Venti placed a hand over his heart, feigning offense. "Why, Amber, I'm here to provide the most important service of all—entertainment!"

Chatot mimicked Venti's tone perfectly, squawking, "Entertainment!"

Hiroshi couldn't help but laugh. "Alright, Venti, how about you entertain us by helping put up these banners?"

Venti grinned. "You drive a hard bargain, Hiroshi. But for you, anything!" He grabbed one of the banners, and Chatot helped by flying up to tie it in place.

The rest of the day was filled with more preparations, laughter, and the occasional Pokémon mischief. Misdreavus spooked a few knights by phasing through walls, and Chatot kept mimicking Venti's voice to confuse Amber, who was starting to lose track of which was which.

By evening, the training grounds were fully set up, and the decorations were almost complete. The sun was setting, casting a golden glow over Mondstadt, and the entire city seemed to be brimming with excitement for the upcoming festival.

Jean looked around at the bustling square, her eyes filled with warmth and pride. "Thank you, everyone. I couldn't have done this without all of you."

Hiroshi smiled, feeling a sense of camaraderie. "We're a team, Jean. And this festival is going to be amazing."

Amber pumped her fist in the air. "Yeah! With all the Pokémon events, it's going to be the best Windblume Festival ever!"

Venti strummed his lute, a playful tune filling the air. "And with the power of friendship—and Pokémon—anything is possible!"

Everyone laughed, and even Zekrom, who usually kept a stoic demeanor, let out a deep rumble of amusement. The bonds they were forming—with each other and with their Pokémon—were growing stronger by the day. And as Hiroshi looked around at his friends, he knew that their journey was just beginning, with many more adventures yet to come.

"Alright," Hiroshi said, stretching his arms. "How about we head to the tavern for a well-earned rest? I think we all deserve it."

Jean nodded, a soft smile on her face. "Agreed. Let's go, everyone."

With Pokémon by their sides and laughter in the air, they made their way towards the heart of Mondstadt, ready to relax and enjoy each other's company as the night settled over the city. The Windblume Festival was just around the corner, and with it, new adventures awaited.
