Chapter 67 - Chapter 67: The Battle at Jueyun Karst - Training and Friendship

The sun rose slowly over the towering peaks of Jueyun Karst, bathing the rocky landscape in hues of gold and amber. The mist that lingered among the stone spires made the area look mystical, almost enchanted. Today, the adventurers of Liyue gathered for something special—a training session with their Pokémon partners, aimed at understanding how they could work together in battle, using the new Pokémon ecosystems as their training ground.

Standing near a cluster of stone pillars was Zhongli, his Slowpoke sitting lazily at his feet. Zhongli gazed out at the mountains thoughtfully, his eyes half-closed in contemplation. Not far from him, Hu Tao had her Shuppet floating beside her, and she was wearing an expression of excitement that was unmistakable.

"Zhongli, do you think we'll see any new wild Pokémon today? I've heard rumors that a whole group of Geodude were spotted around here recently!" Hu Tao asked, her voice filled with curiosity.

Zhongli nodded, his tone calm as he responded. "Indeed, the Pokémon ecosystem here is thriving. It would not surprise me if we encountered a few Geodude during our session. It is important to observe and understand their behavior, especially if we are to coexist harmoniously."

Hu Tao laughed, her eyes glinting with mischief. "Well, you know me! I say bring on the battles! Let's see what Shuppet is capable of. I've got a feeling today's going to be fun."

Zhongli gave her a small smile. "I trust you will not be reckless, Director Hu. Pokémon, much like us, need to grow steadily, without undue strain."

Hu Tao nodded, though the playful gleam in her eyes didn't fade. "Of course, of course. I'll take good care of Shuppet, don't worry!"

Nearby, Xingqiu was standing with his Finneon, the small Water-type Pokémon hovering slightly above the ground, using its fins to float in the air. Xingqiu held his Pokédex up, scanning a wild Geodude that had appeared, watching as the screen displayed its level and stats.

"Geodude, level 15," Xingqiu read aloud. "Looks like it's a tough one. Finneon, we'll need to be careful—Rock-types are sturdy, after all. But with some well-timed Water attacks, I think we can handle it."

Finneon let out a determined cry, its fins flapping eagerly. Xingqiu smiled, pointing towards the Geodude. "Alright then, Finneon, let's use Water Pulse!"

Finneon gathered water in its mouth before releasing it in a powerful pulse, the blast of water hitting the Geodude directly. The Geodude grunted, stumbling back but refusing to give in. It retaliated with a Rollout, rolling towards Finneon at a surprising speed.

"Dodge, Finneon!" Xingqiu called out, his voice steady.

Finneon swiftly maneuvered to the side, narrowly avoiding the oncoming attack. Xingqiu let out a breath of relief, then nodded. "Now, use another Water Pulse!"

The second Water Pulse hit its mark, and the Geodude finally relented, falling still. Xingqiu knelt down, giving Finneon an affectionate pat. "Well done, Finneon. You did great."

Not far from Xingqiu, Ningguang was standing with her Rotom. She was observing the wild Pokémon with a look of intense focus, her Pokédex in hand. She scanned a Nosepass that was wandering by, reading the information displayed on her device.

"Nosepass, level 18. Electric attacks won't be effective here, Rotom," Ningguang mused, her voice thoughtful. "But we can still make use of your agility. Let's test our strategy."

Rotom buzzed in agreement, electricity sparking around its body. Ningguang pointed towards the Nosepass. "Let's start with Confuse Ray. We need to make it unsteady."

Rotom's eyes glowed as it released a strange, flashing light towards the Nosepass. The wild Pokémon blinked in confusion, wobbling slightly as it struggled to maintain its focus. Ningguang's eyes glinted, her expression calm.

"Now, use Astonish."

Rotom sped forward, letting out a sudden shout that startled the already disoriented Nosepass, causing it to stumble back. Ningguang smiled, satisfied. "Well done, Rotom. Let's not push it further—it's important to know when to stop."

Meanwhile, at the base of a nearby hill, Qiqi was with her Chikorita. She was quietly observing as Chikorita played with a group of Budew, the small Grass-type Pokémon appearing to enjoy the attention. Qiqi tilted her head, her expression as blank as ever.

"Chikorita," she said softly, "we should train, too."

Chikorita looked back at Qiqi, letting out a cheerful chirp before nodding. Qiqi raised her Pokédex, scanning one of the nearby Budew. "Budew, level 10... it is also a Grass-type," she muttered. "We will have to be careful."

Chikorita stepped forward, facing the Budew, which looked up curiously. Qiqi nodded slightly. "Use Razor Leaf, Chikorita."

Chikorita flicked its leaf, sending sharp-edged leaves towards the Budew. The Budew dodged, then countered with Stun Spore, releasing a cloud of golden spores towards Chikorita. Qiqi blinked, her expression unchanging.

"Dodge," she said simply.

Chikorita leaped to the side, avoiding the spores, then turned back to face Budew, ready for Qiqi's next command.

"Now, Tackle," Qiqi said.

Chikorita charged forward, hitting the Budew with a solid tackle, sending it rolling back slightly. The Budew shook itself, then looked at Chikorita and gave a small nod, as if acknowledging defeat. Qiqi walked over, her eyes softening slightly.

"You did well, Chikorita," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. Chikorita nuzzled against her leg, clearly pleased.

Back at the main area, Zhongli observed each battle, his eyes filled with a calm understanding. Slowpoke yawned beside him, seemingly unfazed by all the action.

"It is fascinating," Zhongli mused aloud, "to see how each trainer and Pokémon learn from each other. The bonds they form through these experiences are truly something to behold."

Hu Tao floated over on her Shuppet, her eyes glinting with excitement. "Did you see that, Zhongli? Xingqiu and Finneon really gave that Geodude a run for its money! I think it's time for me and Shuppet to try our hand at a battle too!"

Zhongli looked at her, his eyes thoughtful. "Very well, Director Hu. But remember, battles are as much about strategy and restraint as they are about power."

Hu Tao grinned, nodding. "Of course, of course. Now, where can I find myself a good opponent?"

As if on cue, a wild Geodude rolled into view, its eyes locking onto Hu Tao and Shuppet. Hu Tao's grin widened. "Perfect! Alright, Shuppet, let's show them what we've got! Use Night Shade!"

Shuppet's eyes glowed an eerie red as it released a wave of dark energy towards the Geodude, hitting it directly. The Geodude grunted, shaking itself before retaliating with Rock Throw, hurling a stone towards Shuppet.

"Dodge it, Shuppet!" Hu Tao called.

Shuppet floated to the side, narrowly avoiding the rock, its eyes still glowing with excitement. Hu Tao clenched her fist, her voice filled with determination. "Now, use Spite! Let's weaken its attacks!"

Shuppet's eyes glowed once more, and the Geodude shuddered, its strength visibly draining. Hu Tao nodded, satisfied. "That's it, Shuppet. Let's finish this with another Night Shade!"

The second Night Shade hit its mark, and the Geodude finally relented, settling down in defeat. Hu Tao cheered, her eyes bright. "We did it, Shuppet! Great job!"

Shuppet floated back to Hu Tao, nuzzling against her shoulder. Zhongli watched, a small smile on his face. "Well done, Director Hu. It seems you and Shuppet make quite the team."

Hu Tao grinned, giving Zhongli a thumbs-up. "You bet we do! And this is just the beginning—we're going to keep getting stronger, right, Shuppet?"

Shuppet let out an enthusiastic cry, clearly in agreement.

As the day came to a close, the adventurers gathered together, their Pokémon resting beside them. The training had been challenging, but it had also been rewarding—a chance to grow closer to their Pokémon, to learn from each other, and to strengthen their bonds.

Xingqiu looked around at his friends, his Finneon resting on his lap. "Today was a good day. We all learned a lot, and our Pokémon grew stronger."

Ningguang nodded, her Rotom floating beside her. "Indeed. These training sessions are essential, not just for our Pokémon, but for us as well. It's about understanding, about connecting with them on a deeper level."

Hu Tao grinned, her Shuppet hovering above her head. "And it's about having fun too! There's nothing like the thrill of a good battle!"

Zhongli looked at each of them, his eyes filled with warmth. "You are all correct. Today was about growth, about forming bonds, and about understanding the balance between strength and care. The Pokémon have brought something truly special to our lives, and it is up to us to nurture these bonds."

The group nodded, their hearts filled with determination. As they made their way back towards Liyue Harbor, the sun setting behind them, they knew that this was only the beginning of their journey—a journey filled with challenges, growth, and the promise of new adventures yet to come.
