Chapter 4 - THE EDER'S WIFE

EPISODE 7&8

She told me. For a minute, I was dumped. I couldn't think of anything. This was my dream coming true in my weirdest ways. Ever since I knew I had a special talent for making love, I had always planned to use it for positive reasons only. Using it to get employment was a valid reason to use it. So I said yes. Immediately I said yes, and Angel left to go and talk to her husband. I was left standing there just waiting for my destiny to be confirmed. It was a tense moment that one. Around ten minutes passed and Angel came back hand in hand with the Elder. One look at Angel, and I thought she had tape stuck on both sides of her mouth by the way she was smiling. It was that moment I knew that I'd triumphed, this time. In the span of a moment, the "lovebirds" duo reached where I was. "So, Davis, I hear you want a job. What kind of job are you seeking?" He asked. "Sir, I am willing to do anything am capable of, I'll do my best." We rocked eyes again and this time, he was thinking. I looked at him straight in the eyes. "Okay, he said." "Thank you," I responded. "You will organize with Mama Stella here about the work and salary." He said we have Fifteen minutes to prepare ourselves and hit the road to the city. News that I was finally going to Nairobi left me elated. I was overwhelmed. Again, in the corner of my eyes, I saw Angel smiling. Her husband left immediately after that since he was busy. Angel stepped closer to me. Her scent stimulated my dopamine. " You see? He doesn't have time for me." She said. " He is very useful in the outside world but useless when it comes to family." She added. I was not interested in the shortcomings of the Elder. So I averted the discussion. "Mama Stella? So you have a child?" I asked. "Stella she's adopted." That was all she said. " I need to go and pack some clothes.." I said to her. "No need sweetie. I'll buy you new clothes on the way." She told me. With that settled, all I needed was to look for my family members, most of whom were now in line for food, and say goodbye. I said goodbye to anybody I knew at that funeral. I found Angel still waiting for me. Her glorious smile never left her face. Interestingly, she didn't smile at her husband like this. She had received more gifts from friendly neighbors and soon the boot was stacked. The Elder was wondering how he would carry all these goods in a car with limited space. Out of the blue, Angel suggested that all the excess sacks of goods be parked in the front cabin along with the driver. The remaining goods, she suggested, would be put on the right backseat. She and I would occupy the remaining two seats. " That sounds like a perfect idea." I backed her up. The Elder agreed with me and we did that. I put so much load on the front seat next to the driver creating a mini wall that prevented me from seeing the back. The remaining goods, I placed in the right backseat. Angel sat between me and the goods. The engine of the Harrier ignited and I said hallelujah. Finally, it's happening.
