Chapter 8 - Chapter 8 Attempt

For the undead, the most important thing is undoubtedly their Soul Fire. According to the highest laws of the undead realm, every undead must follow the prescribed path of ascension from the moment of its creation: after brutal battles, the victorious become kings, and the defeated become fuel. But why is there such a distinction when undead are born? Why am I, Kashnikov, born a Lich, while Eva is a Skeleton Archer? Every undead is composed of a lifeless body and Soul Fire, so why does the God of Death divide the undead into so many different types? *Kashnikov's Notes*, Page 3.

Why must we follow the God of Death's laws? It turns out that the undead can undergo self-modification. This modification is so simple that... it only requires mastering the *Rebirth of Bones* spell! *Kashnikov Manuscript*, Page 109.

Just like how I can use my spiritual sense to control undead servants, I carefully suppressed the completion of the *Rebirth of Bones* spell. According to the *Kashnikov Notes*, first, one must use their spiritual sense to create a "mold" of the desired form, then cast the *Rebirth of Bones* spell and infuse it into the "mold."

This method is actually quite understandable—it's like constructing a container out of glass and then pouring water into it. Once the container is full, the water must take the shape of the container.

What I am constructing now is a pair of sharp claws, specifically for poor Dargama. Slowly... slowly...

After countless failures, I have nearly mastered how to suppress the *Rebirth of Bones* spell that should have been completed instantly, transforming it into something that can be done slowly. Although my control is still a bit strained.

I watch as Dargama's outstretched bones are slowly enveloped in new layers of bone. These new bones, under the invisible "mold" of my spiritual sense, must take the prescribed form. Ten sharp, pointed bone claws are starting to take shape.

Though physically and mentally exhausted, I cannot help but feel excited—after failing two hundred times, this is the result. Anyone would feel this way.

With full focus, I continue controlling the spell. As the structure of the claws nears completion, I know that the chances of failure grow with each passing moment—this is something I am well aware of.

The thumbs are complete! The right ring finger is complete! The left ring finger is complete! The little fingers are almost done...

*Burp*—Suddenly, a loud, rough burp echoes in my mind.

My once laser-focused concentration immediately falters, causing the "spiritual sense bone claw mold" to collapse. As a result, the suppressed *Rebirth of Bones* spell can no longer be controlled...

My vision goes dark for a moment, but when it returns, I realize that Dargama isn't holding two claws but has instead formed a pair of connected bone fans.

*Burp!*

Sighing while rubbing its bloated belly, the ever-present *Soul Devouring Ghost* nearby once again burps.

"Magellan, you bastard! I'll kill you!"

Fury surged in me. I grabbed the partially materialized *Soul Devouring Ghost* and started punching and kicking it, making it squeal in pain.

Dargama, who hadn't received any orders, still stood there, holding the *bone fan* in a daze.

"Get out of here—no orders means no approaching within a hundred meters of me!" I vented my frustration by kicking Magellan, the now bloated *Soul Devouring Ghost*, far away, before sitting down in irritation, staring at Dargama's malfunctioning bone claws.

My magic power is almost depleted, which left me somewhat frustrated. But Kashnikov's Notes said it was easy—why isn't it working?

I completely forgot—I am still a rookie. Kashnikov, the Lich King, was already level 30 and skilled in necromancy, while I... How could I compare to someone at that level?

Being able to form a "mold" with my spiritual sense and suppress the *Rebirth of Bones* spell to inject the mold with bones—it's not just a mental challenge. Even Kashnikov would call me a genius for attempting this.

After a short break, I stood up, took my *Bone Staff* from my neck, and began smashing Dargama's malformed bone claws into pieces.

Dargama wandered aimlessly for a few steps, but without arms, it couldn't get up and simply lay there, pitifully looking at me.

"You two, help him up," I waved my hand, instructing a couple of skeleton servants to assist, before turning to leave.

I wasn't about to sit around and wait for my magical power to slowly recover. Without energy, my best option was to hunt other undead. Even though most of the Soul Fire energy I absorbed went to Yin-Yang Fish, gaining more would still replenish my power at a faster rate.

Not far from where I was, there was a massive graveyard with numerous wandering skeletons. On a slight hill outside the graveyard, I spotted a half-collapsed stone building that resembled a temple.

I thought setting up camp near the graveyard would be a good choice, but the place was guarded by a massive red skeleton. Though it appeared slow, its bone body was about three or four meters tall, and the spiked mace it dragged along proved it wasn't a kind soul.

From time to time, the red skeleton would emerge from the graveyard temple, casually crushing other skeletons with its mace. I knew I wasn't strong enough to challenge it yet...

Could I use *Soul Devouring Ghost* Magellan to devour the red skeleton's Soul Fire?

How could I forget that trick? However, Magellan, who had been sent to attempt it, was no match for the red skeleton's Soul Fire. After getting irritated, I ordered Magellan to devour more Soul Fire to increase its strength.

But after eating too much, Magellan disrupted my experiment once again...

Tempted by the enormous number of skeletons in the graveyard, I had no plans to leave. I decided to camp near the graveyard, continuously upgrading and modifying the skeletons using Kashnikov's Notes. Whenever my mental energy ran low, I would hunt the skeletons near the graveyard to replenish it.

The red skeleton, feeling its authority threatened, came after me a few times. But it was too slow. I simply ran away whenever it appeared.

After chasing me a few times, the red skeleton stopped coming out, letting me hunt without interference.
