Chapter 10 - school begins

It had been six days since Leo had made the pivotal decision about his class, a choice that had set the course for his training. Each day, he dedicated hours to honing his skills in the True Devil Manual (TDM), where he immersed himself in the sensation of magic flowing through him. During this time, Leo had forged a deeper connection with his mana core, feeling its innate power pulse rhythmically as he practised. He was methodically working to expand its size, pushing against the boundaries of his abilities and discovering new depths of strength.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, Leo sighed, acknowledging that school would begin the following morning. "I need to rest," he murmured to himself, the weight of anticipation hanging in the air. With that thought, he climbed into bed, allowing the comfort of sleep to wash over him, knowing that tomorrow would usher in a new chapter of his life.

The next morning arrived with a bright, golden light filtering through his window, waking Leo from a dream filled with visions of magic and adventure. He sprang out of bed, hurriedly preparing for the day ahead. After a quick breakfast, he grabbed his bag and stepped outside, the fresh air invigorating him as he made his way to school.

Upon arriving at the school, Leo felt a mix of excitement and nerves. He approached the large poster board that displayed the class assignments for the year, scanning eagerly for his name. When he finally spotted it next to the name of his chosen class, a wave of relief and eagerness washed over him. Without wasting another moment, he headed in the direction of his classroom, ready to embark on this new journey.

As he stepped into the classroom, an electrifying hush fell over the once-vibrant chatter of his classmates. With a confident stride, he made his way to the back of the room and plopped down in his seat, resting his head on the table for a quick power nap.

Just thirty minutes into his much-needed snooze, he was jolted awake by a friendly nudge on his back. Rubbing the sleep from his eyes, he looked up to find Zin grinning at him, a sparkle of mischief in his eyes.

"Leo! Why are you snoozing away on such a bright morning?"

"I didn't catch enough Z's last night," he mumbled, still groggy.

Zin leaned in, his voice dropping conspiratorially. "I heard some wild rumours floating around—that you got kicked out of the palace! Is that true?"

"Not quite," Leo replied, straightening up. "I did leave the palace, but nobody pushed me. Who's been spreading that story?"

"You know how it is. The streets are buzzing with gossip," Zin shrugged, a teasing grin on his face.

"Maybe you should spend less time on the streets and more in class," Leo shot back with a laugh.

"So where are you crashing now?" Zin asked, genuinely curious.

"I'm living it up at the royal cabin near the foot of Mount Vernon," Leo said, a spark of pride in his voice.

"Dude, I'm so jealous!"

"Jealous? Why?" Leo raised an eyebrow.

"Because you're free as a bird! No one to dictate your curfew or tell you when to come back. You're the captain of your ship now!" Zin exclaimed, his admiration palpable.

The exhilaration of newfound freedom hung in the air, and Leo couldn't help but smile at the thrill of it all.

"You can come and join me; there are plenty of rooms available for you to settle into."

"Well, I've made up my mind to try running away from home first. What's going on with your situation? "

"Which situation are you referring to?"

"You know, that stuff that you mistakenly discovered when you weren't supposed to! "

"Oh, it's going well! So, which class did you ultimately decide to choose? "

"I went with the magic swordsman—it's considered the most powerful class of all! "

"I have to say, no class is inherently more powerful than the others; it just comes down to what fits you best in terms of skills and personality."

"By the way, which class did you choose, Leo? "

"I chose the same one as yours. What about those idiots Troy and Henry? "

"Well, Henry opted for the assassin class, which is all about agility and stealth, while Troy decided to become a magic archer, blending ranged combat with magical abilities. We're pretty amazing as a group, wouldn't you say?"

"Definitely! "

As their conversation flowed, Crimson and Natalie walked into the room. Crimson's sharp eyes scanned the classroom, taking in the environment before settling on Leo, who caught his attention. He confidently made his way to a chair in the front row, ready to take in the lesson.

"How did he end up in this class? "

Zin asked, a curious expression on his face.

"Didn't you check the names on the poster board before coming here? "

"Well, yeah, but honestly, I only looked for my name! "

"This class is designed specifically for those who come from a noble bloodline, while the other class caters more to common people. "

"So it turns out both Troy and Henry are also in this noble class alongside us, which is quite interesting."

The two students were deep in an animated discussion, their voices a lively mix of enthusiasm and laughter, when a striking woman stormed into the classroom. With her long, flowing black hair and an air of confidence, she immediately drew everyone's attention.

"Good morning, class!" she proclaimed, her cheerful yet commanding voice ringing out.

But the students were so caught up in their chatter that they completely overlooked her entrance. Sensing the need to reclaim the room, she unleashed a surge of palpable energy that swept through the classroom, an electrifying force that felt almost tangible. Suddenly, a deep silence fell, and the students were acutely aware of the overwhelming presence of authority before them.

"Good morning, class! I am your teacher for this year, and when I greet you, I expect a response! Whether you are a crown prince or a king, while you are in this class, you are all under my command. Do I make myself clear?" she declared firmly.

"Yes, ma!" the students replied in unison, their voices a blend of shock and newfound respect. With their words echoing in the suddenly tense atmosphere, she retracted the imposing aura, allowing the tension to ease.

"My name is Esther la Guerra; some of you may know me as the Red Witch. No need for awkward introductions since you all seem familiar with each other. Let's dive right into the fascinating history of the demon race," she continued, her voice steady and compelling.

Just as she began her lesson, two boys, Troy and Henry, burst through the door, a short man with horns protruding from his forehead trotting in behind them. The man moved to the front of the classroom, engaging Miss Esther in a hushed but serious conversation. Their exchange was brief yet intense, and soon he exited, leaving Troy and Henry stranded under the weight of dozens of curious stares.

Miss Esther shifted her gaze towards the newcomers, a playful glimmer flashing in her eyes. "So, it seems we have two charming troublemakers here," she announced, her voice teasing but sharp. "What do you have to say for yourselves?"

"Ma," Henry began, urgency in his tone as he scrambled for damage control, "it was an honest mistake! We wandered into the wrong class while trying to find ours. Just as we were about to leave, the previous teacher walked in."

"Oh really?" Miss Esther leaned in closer, doubt etched across her features. "And why was he accusing you two of harassment?"

Before Henry could defend himself, she silenced him with a wave of her hand. "Not you," she ordered, turning her piercing gaze to Troy. "You speak."

Troy straightened, his heart racing as he seized the moment. "Ma, we were just trying to ask for directions. The girls in this classroom started sweet-talking us and trying to get us to sit down with them. But, I assure you, Ma, my brother and I are men of integrity. We rejected their advances, and somehow that brought us here."

Miss Esther gave them a scrutinizing look, her expression one of disapproval mixed with faint amusement. "Take your seats," she instructed, a hint of softness breaking through her tough exterior.

"Thank you, ma!" they chorused, relief flooding over them as they rushed to find their spots in the classroom.

Troy and Henry quickly spotted their friends Leo and Zin at the back of the room. Eager for a reprieve from the charged atmosphere, they hurried over to settle into the bustling chaos.

"You know she didn't buy your story," Leo whispered mischievously.

"Oh, we know! Maybe she's just bewitched by our rugged good looks," Troy replied, a grin breaking across his face.

"Shhh... she's looking this way!" Zin hissed, causing the group to instantly quiet down and focus on the lesson as Miss Esther's gaze moved across the classroom, ready for whatever excitement lay ahead.
