Throughout the year, Su Yan had traveled to numerous places on missions and signed in at every location he could find, hoping to rack up attribute points. However, the points he earned varied wildly—10 points at most, and often only 1 or 2 points. Still, he accepted every mission he could and traveled as much as possible, feeling like a character in an RPG game exploring new maps for bonus experience.

Though his system's rewards were meager, he persevered, knowing each attribute point brought him closer to his goal. He'd managed to integrate nearly one-tenth of Kaido's physique—a level of resilience that, while only a fraction of Kaido's true strength, still made him feel invincible.

"Erza, Mira, I'm back," Su Yan called out as he sat down at a table across from Erza and Mirajane.

"Welcome back," Erza said with a nod.

Mirajane scoffed, crossing her arms. "Hmph! You don't have to sit here just because you're back, you know."

Su Yan chuckled. "Still mad, huh? It's been a while."

Not long ago, Mirajane had been excited about a high-paying crusade mission. But to her dismay, Master Makarov had ultimately assigned it to Su Yan, claiming it was too dangerous for her. Though Su Yan successfully completed the mission, Mirajane hadn't let it go. To her, this was a slap in the face, as if Makarov doubted her abilities compared to Su Yan's.

"Just wait, Su Yan!" Mirajane snapped. "One day soon, I'll beat you and take back my place as Fairy Tail's strongest! So enjoy it while it lasts."

"Elfman, Lisanna, we're heading out!" Mirajane declared, pulling her siblings with her.

Su Yan sighed, watching them go. Though she was a bit hot-tempered now, he knew that in time, Mirajane would grow into the kind, gentle woman he'd admired in the anime. For now, though, she, Erza, and Su Yan had an interesting dynamic—they were rivals, friends, and, perhaps, something more.

Over the year, both Erza and Mirajane had challenged Su Yan repeatedly, leading to many sparring sessions from which they all learned new techniques. However, as Su Yan's fusion with Kaido's physique increased, neither girl could match his strength. During one fight, Mirajane had hit him with a full-power Satan Soul attack, only to see him barely flinch. Similarly, Erza's sword had shattered on his skin, leaving not even a scratch. Both had eventually eased up on their challenges, realizing they couldn't keep up with his strength.

Thankfully, their friendships remained strong, and Su Yan's goal of building lasting bonds with them was progressing well.

---

Three days later, Su Yan arrived at the guild early in the morning, surprised to find it packed with members. It was unusual; normally, guildmates would be out on missions or at least spread out in smaller groups. Today, however, nearly everyone was present, but a tense silence filled the air. Some members exchanged glances, their expressions a mix of anticipation and nervousness.

Curious, Su Yan sidled up to Natsu. "What's going on, Natsu?" he asked quietly.

Natsu was about to explain when a loud creak interrupted him.

The door on the second floor opened, and Master Makarov stepped out, accompanied by Gildarts, Fairy Tail's only current S-Class wizard. The guild's prodigal son was back, likely just for this occasion, as he was known to return only three or four times a year between missions.

"Hey, the old man's back!" Su Yan heard someone whisper.

"Gildarts too?"

The atmosphere in the guild buzzed with excitement. Members who had been quietly waiting erupted into cheers.

"Oooh!"

"Master!"

"We've been waiting all morning!"

"Quick, announce it!"

"Who will it be this year?"

Makarov raised a hand to calm the guild down, clearing his throat. "This is a tradition that has gone on for many years in Fairy Tail," he began. "Today, I'm here to announce the participants for this year's 'S-Class Mage Promotion Trial!'"

The excitement was palpable. The S-Class Trials were legendary, a chance for members to rise to the prestigious rank of S-Class wizards, a role only the strongest and most capable could fill. Every mage in the guild dreamed of earning that title, and each year, only a select few were even invited to try.

Beside him, Gildarts grinned, observing the crowd with his usual relaxed demeanor.

"For those chosen," Makarov continued, "this is your opportunity to prove yourselves. And for the rest of you—work hard, for you may have your chance next year."

The crowd fell silent in anticipation.

Makarov began to read the names, each one stirring cheers and shouts of encouragement from the guild.

When he reached the final name, he paused, looking directly at Su Yan.

"Su Yan, you are invited to participate in this year's S-Class Trials!"

The guild erupted.

"Su Yan made it!"

"I knew he'd be chosen!"

"He's more than earned it!"

Su Yan blinked in surprise. Despite all his training, he hadn't expected this. Sure, he'd grown immensely over the past year, but to be chosen for the S-Class Trials felt like a huge leap forward.

Natsu punched his fist in the air. "Alright, Su Yan! You're gonna crush it out there!"

Even Mirajane, though she huffed, couldn't hide a small smile. "Don't think this means you're better than me. You're still my rival."

Erza gave him an approving nod. "Congratulations, Su Yan. I look forward to seeing how far you've come."

Su Yan felt a wave of determination wash over him. This was his chance not only to prove his strength but also to solidify his place in Fairy Tail as one of its top wizards. He glanced at Gildarts, who gave him an encouraging wink.

Master Makarov looked at the chosen wizards one last time, his eyes filled with pride. "The S-Class Trials won't be easy. But remember—you're not just fighting for yourselves. You're fighting for Fairy Tail."

The cheers rose again as everyone celebrated.
