Chapter 33: Uchiha Obito's Plan Against Kakashi!
"What a terrifying jutsu! But I've memorized it with my Sharingan—it's mine now!"
Although Kakashi had trapped himself inside an earth dome, the commotion outside made him curious. He created a small hole in the dome and saw Uchiha Yi performing hand seals and unleashing a catastrophic jutsu. Shocked by what he saw, Kakashi quickly lowered his mask, revealing his Sharingan, and copied the jutsu.
However, what Kakashi didn't realize was that Meteor Volcano actually required no hand seals. Uchiha Yi had merely imitated the motions, thinking that launching the jutsu without any hand seals would feel less authentic to the ninja world.
As a result, Kakashi, thinking he'd successfully copied the jutsu, was completely unaware that the "hand seals" were just for show.
If Uchiha Yi knew about Kakashi's "cleverness," he would probably laugh himself to sleep.
In the words of a wise man, "Practice is the only standard for testing truth." Uchiha Yi had learned this lesson well. He once believed Meteor Volcano was powerful but never had a clear idea until he used it in actual combat.
The result—taking down just a few opponents—was far from his expectations. Still, he didn't let the disappointing outcome shake his confidence. Analyzing the battle's details, he realized that even at level one, Meteor Volcano had posed a significant threat to these high-level ninjas. If he leveled it up, even Kage-level opponents might have to tread carefully.
With this in mind, Uchiha Yi invested 300 soul points to upgrade Meteor Volcano to level 3. With his other recent gains, his soul points returned to a total of 1,000.
"This thing really burns through points!" he thought, which explained why he preferred lottery draws to directly upgrading skills—the cost was steep. Each level upgrade required 100 soul points, while a lottery draw only cost 10 points. Plus, duplicates from the draw could be converted to skill experience. For example, drawing a second Flame-Flame Fruit raised the awakening progress by 10%. Drawing a duplicate Meteor Volcano would automatically upgrade it by one level.
But the randomness of the lottery made it a gamble. Both methods had their pros and cons.
For now, he decided to keep the remaining 1,000 points as a safety net.
With Repelling Fire Ring and Meteor Volcano both at level three, and his Flame-Flame Fruit ability enhanced with a 10% awakening progress, Uchiha Yi felt considerably stronger.
After taking stock, he sent out shadow clones to continue gathering information across the Land of Water.
In a forested area shrouded in mist, Uchiha Obito appeared alongside a young woman.
"Kakashi is somewhere in this misty forest," he said. "Your job is to find him, make him fall for you, and then break his heart. Make him understand the pain of unrequited love." His Mangekyou Sharingan gleamed behind his mask as he turned to the woman beside him.
"I understand. But if I succeed, will you really spare my homeland?" Hanare asked, her head lowered as she confirmed the mission.
"As long as you complete the task, I have no interest in your homeland," Obito replied dismissively. It was a small country he could easily crush if he wanted, but he didn't care enough to bother. The only reason he was using Hanare was her familiarity with Kakashi.
"Fine! I'll make sure to complete it!" she replied, desperate to secure her homeland's safety.
Under Obito's watchful gaze, Hanare resolutely entered the misty forest.
"Kakashi, I'll make you experience the pain of watching the one you love die before your eyes." With this plan in mind, Obito had no intention of letting Hanare live in the end. Her only purpose was to recreate the scene he'd witnessed years ago—Kakashi killing Rin—only this time with Kakashi and Hanare.
In the misty forest, Kakashi, having narrowly escaped the Mist ninja, hid to avoid detection. Looking tired and dejected, he leaned against a tree, pulled out some food, and ate to restore his strength.
He had finally seen firsthand the difficulty of his mission in the Land of Water. It was nearly impossible to move undetected. The Mist ninja seemed to be relentless, constantly pursuing him as though they had some sixth sense about his location.
He had no idea what had gone wrong. No matter how he disguised or hid himself, the Mist ninja seemed to locate him with ease.
At this rate, completing his mission was impossible, and it was only a matter of time before they captured him.
What to do? he wondered.
And who was that guy? he thought, recalling Uchiha Yi's face. It seemed like Uchiha Yi had been helping him escape, yet he couldn't remember ever meeting him.
"Never mind. I should focus on getting out of this situation first."
Having spent over a week in the Land of Water with no leads on Obito, Kakashi felt a bit disheartened, but he quickly shook it off, gathering his resolve to press on.
