Chapter 41: Kamui!

Hanare is dead.

She died with no regrets, leaving with a smile on her face.

Kakashi, however, sat frozen like a statue, holding her lifeless body. He did not move, as if time itself had stopped at this tragic scene.

---

His father had committed suicide.

Rin was killed by his own hand.

His teacher and his teacher's wife were dead.

And now, someone he had just begun to love was gone too.

The only close friend he had left, Obito, had fallen into darkness because of him.

I am truly an unfortunate person, Kakashi thought.

I can't protect anything.

Everyone around him seemed destined to meet tragedy because of him.

---

This was not the first time Kakashi had watched someone close to him die. He couldn't escape the spiraling abyss of self-doubt, blaming himself for everything that had happened.

These events had left him with a hardened heart, unwilling to let anyone else into his life. Deep down, he feared getting close to people.

Even when he saw his teacher Minato's son, Naruto, struggling and living a difficult life, Kakashi dared not approach. He feared his "curse" would bring misfortune to Naruto as well.

---

As Kakashi endured this internal torment, something unexpected began to happen.

The Sharingan in his left eye started spinning like a windmill.

When it finally stopped, the tomoe pattern had transformed into a large pinwheel-like design—the Mangekyō Sharingan.

---

"What is this?"

Kakashi was stunned by the sudden change.

Looking down at the water's surface, he saw his reflection and memorized the new pattern in his Sharingan.

He recalled the information he had read about the Uchiha clan's eyes.

After the three tomoe, the next evolution of the Sharingan is the Mangekyō Sharingan.

Awakening this eye is akin to gaining the power of a god.

---

"Even an outsider like me can awaken the Mangekyō?"

Kakashi was confused. But with the Uchiha clan almost entirely wiped out, there was no one to answer his questions.

The only three surviving members were:

A young child still attending the ninja academy,

A rogue shinobi who betrayed his clan and village,

And Obito, long thought dead but now lost in the shadows.

Kakashi had no way of knowing about Uchiha Yi's existence.

---

As the Mangekyō Sharingan activated, the knowledge of its abilities surfaced in Kakashi's mind.

The primary power of this eye was Kamui, a space-time ninjutsu capable of distorting space to transport objects or people into another dimension.

---

"Such an incredible ability…" Kakashi murmured, understanding its potential.

By focusing his left eye and locking onto a target, he could distort space around the target and transport it away. There might be other uses for Kamui, but Kakashi knew he would need time to explore them.

---

"Touching. Truly touching," a mocking voice broke through Kakashi's thoughts.

"This reminds me of a woman I killed once. She said some strange things to me, but even now, I still can't figure out what she meant."

Dry laughter echoed as Kisame Hoshigaki glanced at Hanare's lifeless body. The memory of another woman briefly distracted him, giving Kakashi a moment to compose himself.

---

"Don't worry. Someone will answer your questions soon enough," Kakashi said coldly.

He placed Hanare's body into a sealing scroll, his expression dark and resolute.

Turning back to Kisame, his voice carried a murderous intent.

"Let me send you to that place now."

---

Kisame grinned, unfazed.

"It seems that woman distracted you from fighting properly. Don't let her hold you back."

His words were meant as taunts, but they only enraged Kakashi further.

"You bastard!"

"How dare you reduce someone I care about to that!"

---

"Kamui!"

Kakashi roared, his left eye locked onto Kisame's heart.

The pinwheel-like Mangekyō Sharingan began spinning rapidly, activating its ability.

An invisible spatial distortion surged toward Kisame, targeting his chest.

Kisame had no idea Kakashi possessed such an ability. Caught off guard, he couldn't defend himself.

In the blink of an eye, the spatial distortion pierced through his heart, leaving him wide-eyed and motionless—his shark-toothed grin frozen on his face.

---

"It's over."

Kakashi sighed in relief. He had experienced the overwhelming power of space-time ninjutsu through his teacher, Minato. There was no way Kisame could have survived.

But his relief was short-lived.

---

The next moment, Kisame's body melted into water and scattered across the ground.

"A water clone?!"

Kakashi clenched his fists in frustration.

He realized his attack had been too rash. Kisame's caution had allowed him to avoid death.

"I underestimated him," Kakashi muttered. He knew his chances of another decisive strike were slim.

If Kisame chose to fight from the shadows, he could simply exhaust Kakashi's energy.

---

Kakashi's stamina and chakra reserves were already limited due to the constant drain from his Sharingan. A prolonged battle was not in his favor.

He grew increasingly anxious, knowing his odds of survival were dwindling.

---

Kisame, hidden nearby, grinned in satisfaction.

"That was close. I almost died there."

His instincts and combat experience had saved him once again. The intense sensation of his water clone being destroyed by Kamui only deepened his respect for Kakashi's skill.

---

"This is why you never underestimate a renowned ninja. You never know what tricks they're hiding," Kisame muttered.

He had survived countless life-or-death situations by being cautious, and today was no exception.

---

As Kisame adjusted his strategy, he grew even more careful, slowly wearing down Kakashi's strength.

In the end, the difference in raw power was too great.

Kakashi was defeated and captured once again.

---

The title of "No-Tailed Beast" wasn't just for show. Kisame's sheer strength and chakra reserves far outclassed Kakashi's.

As the battle concluded, the attention of everyone nearby turned to Uchiha Yi, whose intentions were still unclear.

---

"Impressive!" Yi said to himself, having watched the entire fight.

He was amazed by Kisame's dominance throughout most of the battle, even managing to kill Hanare. But Kakashi's sudden awakening of the Mangekyō Sharingan—and its Kamui ability—nearly turned the tables.

"It's incredible. Kakashi awakened Kamui years earlier than he did in the original timeline," Yi thought.

The fight had been full of unexpected twists and turns, with victory hanging in the balance until the very end.
