"Finally, school's out; it feels like I've been here for a thousand years," Keal muttered, making his way to the door.
"Keal, wait up!" Master Orin's voice halted him in his tracks.
Keal paused, wondering, 'What does this old man want now?'
"Remember, don't be late tomorrow morning. The academy representatives will be here for the essence awakening, scouting for talented individuals who might become our future heroes and defenders against monsters and beasts."
"Oh, right, that. Thanks for the reminder, almost slipped my mind," Keal replied, mustering a weak, feigned smile to show his gratitude.
Truth be told, Keal was never adept at expressing his emotions. Growing up without his parents, the only memory he cherished was of them leaving him with a necklace, which he always wore and protected fiercely. It was his last connection to them. This led him to distance himself from others, who often misjudged him as odd or unhinged, leaving him without any true friends.
"May I go now, or is there something else?" Keal asked, his tone betraying his eagerness to leave.
"Yes you may leave that's, all I wanted to talk to you about. But please do be early tomorrow", Master Orin said trying to plead Keal.
"OK", Keal said as he dashed out the door.
Where Keal was currently was, was Hughenden High which was located in a small town called Hughenden which was located in the Kingdom of Islet, which was one of the weakest kingdoms in the world. Well let me not say one of the weakest kingdoms but it was the weakest kingdom in the world. In terms of technological advancements, wealth, economy and also in terms if powerful heroes and beast fighters it produced per year were very low compared to the other kingdoms. And thus resulted into more beast attacks in the kingdoms cities, towns and it's people which further just continued to lower the kingdoms population and advancements further weakening it.
As Keal waited for the school bus to take him home he felt a huge aching pain on his chest. It was as if he had been stabbed with a dagger a million times in the chest. Even though the pain only lasted a few seconds to him it felt like it had lasted an eternity and the next thing that followed he was on the ground with sweat running down his forehead.
Luckily there weren't any students at the bus stop he was waiting at and no one saw him cause if they did they would have laughed at him cause they always saw him as a weird individual.
"What was that all about", Keal thought as he stood up and wiped the sweat which was running down his forehead. Soon after others started to arrive and shortly after the bus arrived and Keal hopped on.
As he hopped on the bus all eyes were on him and as he made his way to the back seats which was where he usually sat he could hear others chatting and whispering talking about him saying all bad things about him.
"Why am I so unlucky today to the point that i had to get on the same bus as weirdo over there", one of the boys said as Keal passed him on his way to the back.
"Hey I heard that weirdo over there was the reason his parents deserted him because after his birth he just brought bad luck to the family and they decided to desert him"
" I heard that his parents decided to move to another kingdom to start a new life leaving him behind because he was way to weird from birth and they could no longer tolerate it anymore"
The others continued on gossiping about Keal as he made his way to the back and as soon as he sat down the pain that he felt not so long ago on his chest was felt once more only this time it was worse. This time around it continued on longer than before. All Keal could do was try not scream out his pain cause if he did it would bring attention to him which was not what he wanted.
"What's happening to me, and what's this pain that I feel, what does it want" these were the thoughts that were racing up and down in Keal's mind as the pain continued on lingering in his pain until it eventually stopped after a good long ten minutes.
And as the pain stopped and he lifted up his head all he could see were eyes of the other students. As they looked at him all Keal was thinking of was what he had done to cause the other students look at him with their piercing eyes. And as he looked down all he could feel was water dripping down his face and unto the floor of the bus. And this time it was dripping faster than before it was as if someone had poured him with a bucket of water.
"He truly is weird I thought you guys were lying but i see it all now", one of the students who was looking at Keal said.
"what are you all looking at", Keal said trying to stop the others from looking at him with their bloodshot eyes and to save himself from more embarrassment.
Soon after the accident after a couple of minutes the bus had reached his stop and as he stepped out of the bus and stepped on the pavement he breathed in and out taking in the air and scent of his neighborhood.
"Finally, let me quickly dash and reach home and watch my favorite show before it ends" Keal thought as he dashed to his apart.
Keal never had family and relatives, but somehow someone always sent him pocket money and always made sure that the apartment's rent was paid and that someone every month end came and dropped off groceries and other essentials, like soap and food in order to get him through his daily needs and essentials. He didn't know whether he was just lucky to be financed like that or maybe there was a motive behind him getting these because he knew that there was no way someone would do what their doing without wanting anything in return. Especially in the times and world they lived in because here those with money and power ruled over the weak and poor.
After a two minute walk Keal reached his apartment and stepped in and as he closed the door the same pain was felt and the next thing he saw the necklace he was given by his parents started to light up to the extent which it would cause anyone looking at it go blind.
The next thing he saw the necklace broke free from his neck and started to hover in the air and as it did Keal himself felt the pain get worser by the second and he too started to light up and hover in the air in his apartment.
The pain now reached to the point whereby Keal could no longer breath. And soon after the necklace started to hover towards him until it reached his chest and soon after it started sinking in his chest.
Because of this the pain became worse than before and this caused Keal to fall to the ground causing him to hit his head on the ground. Slowly Keal felt his consciousness fade away and his eyes started to close but before they did Keal heard a pinging sound.
" Congratulations on obtaining the Legendary system", these were the words he heard before passing out.
