Chapter 12 - HE'S BACK

Two weeks after the whole fiasco with the Old Council.

Things were back to normal, and she'd have almost forgotten about Shane also, until she met him on the way just as she was out to get a new batch of groceries.

It really was true, the saying that enemies meet on a narrow road.

Darla had decided she was going to be magnanimous and not hold on to past grudges, hence she planned to ignore him ultimately. But this 'Shame' guy seemed determined to get in her way.

"Is everything okay with you, Shame? I made it quite clear to your father that I do not need an employee that discloses my personal affairs to unrelated members. I allowed you close to me because I trusted you were worthy, but you've not only proven me wrong, but me slapped me in the face along with it. So, get out of my way!" She commanded as she glared at the lanky lad. It was such a shame he had such a big character flaw, but anyways she couldn't place such a ticking bomb by her side anymore.

But rather that moving out of the way, Shane began running directly towards her and just as her got to her he grabbed a stick from out of nowhere and attempted to swing it at her.

Apparently, he had overestimated his own stamina, because just as he raised the stick to the high heavens it slipped out of his hands and fell straight down on his bony head.

The poor thing, he immediately passed out.

Confused at what had just played out, Darla burst out laughing. She was so confused, yet she couldn't help laughing out of disdain.

It wasn't like she didn't know how strong this lad was, even when they were arranging flower orders he, most of the times needed to make two trips because he wasn't strong enough. Not as a result of being unhealthy but being extremely lazy, he had only gotten better because of the exercise he'd gotten from running errands.

And now this same person intended to ambush her? Alone?!

She was even more flabbergasted at his guts, this man was a coward to the core. He was probably too tensed to perform the mission, that he fainted before he could succeed.

She stared at him, derision flooding her expression. She couldn't be bothered with him but she still had to know why he thought ambushing her was a brilliant idea.

Ha!

What a fool!

She decided to postpone her visit to the grocery market to another day, and just chose to drag him home instead.

She mused as she remembered who she'd dragged home in this manner last, except she wasn't going to keep this one, she was going to torture him.

And Wolf, the wait would soon be over.

RHODES

Darla.

Darla.

Darla.

Her name, on his mind, on his lips.

Like an itch that needed to be soothed, she had him restless.

It was like a withdrawal syndrome, pulling him back to her.

And he also was in a hurry to rush back to her. He wanted to have her in his arms.

It was almost two weeks, infact he had settled his business in a week, but his presence was needed to put some rebels in check. He wanted to ensure that both his and her peace was not going to be disturbed for a long while.

But he was going back, he had been away from home for too long, he had been away from her for too long. His Darla.

Just as he got to the gate of the courtyard, he perceived blood. Forgive him but his senses were extremely sharp, not to even mention how he'd just literally finished fighting a battle, his senses were heightened.

Picking up his speed, he pushed open the door, but the sight he happened upon had him frozen in place.

His Darla had a man on a chair, on a closer look it turned out to be Shame, the same man he warned not to bring into the house. His head was swollen just like a pig's, but funnily he was tied up, drenched. But seeing it was the lanky creature, it was fine, his girl could do what she wanted, he would just help her take care of the rest.
