Each day, Class Zero's curriculum seemed almost unchanged—continuous combat training with Wu Zhangkong.
Once Wu Zhangkong unleashed the power of a Soul Ancestor, it became nearly impossible for Jing Shaoyu and his team to win. Although victory was achievable if Jing Shaoyu fused his martial soul with Gu Yue or Xu Xiaoyan's, Wu Zhangkong strictly prohibited the use of martial soul fusion techniques.
Without fusion, their only option was to rely on strategies and tactics to counter Wu Zhangkong's unpredictable style. Despite their losses, the team gained invaluable experience and insights—after all, sparring with a Soul Emperor-level instructor was a rare privilege.
On their day off, Jing Shaoyu visited Leng Yaozhu at her home.
"A-Yuan, now that you've reached Soul Elder status, you can start thinking about creating your own battle armor," Leng Yaozhu suggested, reclining lazily on the sofa as she observed Jing Shaoyu, who was sitting upright, absorbed in studying the soul device assignments she'd given him.
Without even lifting his head, Jing Shaoyu replied, "I know, I already have some ideas."
"Oh? Then share them with me; I'll help you refine them," Leng Yaozhu responded, sitting up with interest.
"Alright." Jing Shaoyu set down his assignments, ready to discuss his concepts.
Battle armor is a masterpiece of soul engineering, hailed as one of the greatest innovations in the soul master world. Essentially, it's a set of soul device armor that fuses with the wielder's martial soul, enhancing its abilities and characteristics. Armor and mecha represent two distinct branches of human-form soul devices, both refined to remarkable levels. However, unlike mechas, battle armor requires the wearer's direct involvement in its creation, from forging, designing, and crafting to maintenance.
With her attention focused on his design, Leng Yaozhu found herself somewhat entranced. Admiring the drawing, she exclaimed, "A-Yuan, your ideas are as unique as ever. A new design for battle armor—that's bold."
"Does that mean you disagree?" Jing Shaoyu asked, feeling slightly apprehensive.
"No, I completely support it." Leng Yaozhu's response was immediate. "After all, the armor's appearance is secondary. Most battle armor has the same look simply because people adhere to tradition rather than innovation. Honestly, I never liked the typical design either; it doesn't match my style."
She glanced fondly at his concept sketches. "Your armor design here looks fantastic, combining elegance with functionality."
"Really?" Jing Shaoyu's face lit up. With Leng Yaozhu's support as a four-word battle armor master, he felt more confident about his vision. "Thank you, Teacher."
"Now, finish your assignments." She patted his shoulder gently. "Remember, if you aim for the top prize in the Tianhai Alliance Competition, don't come back without it—there will be penalties!" she added with a teasing smile.
"Yes, Teacher!" Jing Shaoyu grinned and buried himself in his studies, encouraged by her approval.
Leng Yaozhu watched him with pride and affection, feeling certain her student would leave an indelible mark on history.
The entire day, Jing Shaoyu remained with Leng Yaozhu, focusing on his work. Even when Xu Xiaoyan invited him to go out, he politely declined.
Xu Xiaoyan, though disappointed, understood, though she grumbled a bit over the phone—much to Leng Yaozhu's amusement.
After leaving her home, Jing Shaoyu rode his bike back to Eastsea Academy under the glow of streetlights, appreciating the quiet peace of the night.
Just as he passed Eastsea Park, he spotted Gu Yue exiting the park and instinctively sped up to catch her.
"Gu Yue!" he called out.
Upon hearing his voice, Gu Yue turned and glanced at him. Her eyes briefly showed joy, but they quickly cooled. She continued walking without slowing down.
Jing Shaoyu sighed inwardly. Ever since he and Xu Xiaoyan performed their martial soul fusion, Gu Yue's attitude had turned colder, becoming more distant each day. Her unpredictable mood swings always left him baffled.
Catching up with her, Jing Shaoyu stopped his bike in front of her. "Why are you ignoring me? Hop on; I'll give you a ride."
"No need, I'll walk," she replied icily, stepping around him to leave.
Frustrated, Jing Shaoyu walked over, hoisted her onto his shoulder, and carried her to his bike.
"Put me down! You—" Gu Yue's indignant struggles subsided as he tapped her lightly, finally seating her on the rear of the bike.
"Hold on," he said, wrapping her arms around his waist as he started pedaling back to the academy.
On the journey back, Gu Yue's reluctant
hold on his waist slowly shifted into a genuine embrace.
